GOOD IDEA:

YEP: Russia Exposes Germany’s Weakness. “Germany has relinquished any aspirations of a leadership role in Europe. Its inadequate response to Russia’s attack on Ukraine has exposed Berlin more as an obstacle to European security rather than as a defender. German policy is also hypocritical by preaching anti-corruption to Balkan states seeking to join the European Union while enabling massive Russian penetration of its economy and political system. . . . Successive German governments opened up the country to Russian state influence, which penetrated all major political parties, national institutions, banks, businesses, and energy corporations. The results of this massive Russian corruption were visible in energy projects such as the Nord Stream pipelines and the laundering of billions of Russian dirty money through German banks. The results of Moscow’s penetration of German foreign policy have been evident since the launch of its extended war against Ukraine.”

Of course, Russia’s weakness has also been exposed.

HONORS: ‘We’re moving into a new era’: People pleased about building new statue to honor John Lewis.

Funny that they’d put up a statue to an Election Denier. John Lewis on Trump: ‘I don’t see this president-elect as a legitimate president.’ “Lewis argued that the suspected efforts of Russian hackers to tilt the election in Trump’s favor are evidence of ‘a conspiracy on the part of the Russians and others to help him get elected.'” Literally conspiracy theory.

Remember: It’s never a legitimate election if Democrats lose. And it’s basically treason to question an election where Democrats win.

OPEN THREAD: Dance to the music.

JOHN HINDERAKER: He’s Baaack. “I have often said that Trump was a very good president–our best, rather easily, since Ronald Reagan. Unfortunately, though, that isn’t the end of the story.”

The Insta-Daughter’s theory is that every president is in some sense the opposite of his predecessor. The defining characteristic of Biden is going to be senility. Trump isn’t senile, and he probably won’t be in 2024 — unlike most presidents he didn’t even seem to age in office. But he won’t be young.

Strategically, I think Trump’s role should be as a “fleet in being” to distract the Democrats while a new, surprise candidate is positioned to destroy them. But I don’t think that Trump has the inclination to play that role. Now I’d be happy to support him if he were the nominee, and I’d love it if he won and stuck it to the “cabal” that elected Biden. But I’d rather have 8 years of, say, DeSantis than 4 years of Trump. I don’t think you can fix things in 4 years. 4 years of Trump followed by 8 years of DeSantis would be great, but how likely is that, really?

WOEING: First Starliner crewed flight further delayed. “NASA has delayed the first flight of Boeing’s CST-100 Starliner commercial crew vehicle with astronauts on board, a slip that will push back the spacecraft’s first operational mission into 2024.”
