AN MLK DAY DAILY GOUGE SPECIAL: The usual no-nonsense/cut the BS analysis of issues and idiots of the day is there in today’s Daily Gouge, but the Lighter Side has a double/triple helping of great political cartoons. Considering what’s been happening of late at both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue in the nation’s capitol, we can all use a heaping helping of humor.
FULL DISCLOSURE: Thom McKee, the wit behind the Daily Gouge, flew F-14s off U.S. Navy carriers and won a bunch of money on Tic-Tac-Dough back in the day. He also saved me from serious injury in falling from a scaffold during a church mission trip in Puebla, Mexico, a few years ago. The man is a gentleman and a scholar, who also happens to be one of the world’s great jokesters.
GHISLAINE MAXWELL DID NOT KILL HERSELF: Ghislaine Maxwell ‘will no longer fight to keep names of John Does secret.’
“I’D RATHER HAVE A SISTER IN A WHOREHOUSE THAN A BROTHER IN THE FBI.” FBI finally admits Texas synagogue siege WAS an anti-Semitic terror attack after first claiming it was ‘not specifically related to the Jewish community.’
LIFE IS BETTER IN AMERICA:

GOT YOUR VETO PEN READY, GOV. YOUNGKIN? Liberty Unyielding’s Hans Bader concedes that the chances of it ever arriving on the new Virginia governor’s desk are likely remote. Even so, there is a bipartisan proposal in the state legislature to allow a ‘second look” by judges in the Commonwealth and possible early release convicted violent offenders serving long sentences.
“The Virginia bill would let inmates who have committed even the most violent crimes such as murder seek release after ten years in prison if they committed the crime before age 25, or after 15 years in prison if they committed their crime after turning 25. By contrast, Washington, DC’s law only allows people who committed their crimes at under age 25 to seek release, after they have served 15 years in prison,” Bader writes.
“In short, the Virginia bill would allow most criminals serving life sentences to seek release; the DC law lets only a minority of criminals serving life sentences seek release. Even so, DC’s law made 583 violent criminals (including many murderers and rapists) eligible for an earlier release. And its backers want to expand the law to cover crimes committed at all ages,” he adds.
You know, it’s like the sponsors of such proposals are mad at law-abiding Americans and want to see us suffer.
IT WASN’T A RIOT, IT WAS A MOSTLY-PEACEFUL PROTEST: Dems are using the Capitol riot to hunt political foes, not real threats. The foe-hunting, however, is real, and revealing. Democrats really do want to criminalize their opposition, simply for being the opposition. They should pay a very stiff price for this perversion of government.
NEVER UNDERESTIMATE JOE’S ABILITY TO F*CK THINGS UP: America has gone from Operation Warp Speed to Biden’s Snail Speed on COVID tests.

A CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT TO PROTECT NINE: If there is still a threat of court packing …
#RESIST: Florida State Drops Middle East Studies Association Membership As Group Moves Towards Israel Boycott. “The FSU Middle East Center did not renew its annual membership in MESA for the 2022 calendar year. Membership expired Dec. 31, 2021.” Good. MESA has been a focal point of academic antisemitism for a long time, and deserves this pushback. There are a lot of ostensibly professional organizations that have been captured by lefty political activists and they all deserve the kind of treatment the National School Boards Association is getting.
#RESIST: A reader sends this from just outside San Antonio:

And another sends this from Bakersfield, California, noting: “We have a major oil industry here.”

The #Resistance is everywhere!
But as a reader in Bellevue, Washington notes, some Democrats are scratching off the stickers, which mostly proves it’s working.

MOST SAY RELIGION UNDER ATTACK IN THE U.S.: The results aren’t surprising to anybody who has been paying attention in recent decades, but the latest Issues & Insights/TIPP Survey digs deep into the details.
Majorities of evangelicals, Catholics and Protestants agree the faith faces growing official and cultural hostility, but only minorities of the Orthodox and Jewish as well as those of “Another Religion” or “No Religion” share that view.
Similarly, majorities of those interviewed living in the Midwest and South see the hostility but only minorities of those living in the Northeast and West. Only one age group — 18-24 — has less than a majority.
SOROS JUSTICE: Los Angeles DA Gascon ripped over sentencing for transgender woman who sexually assaulted girl. “Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascon is facing criticisms after a 26-year-old transgender woman pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a young girl, and faces sentencing of a short stay in a juvenile detention center or probation.”
Juvenile detention for a 26-year-old biologically male rapist? You’ll need a fresh batch of “unexpectedlies” for how that turns out.

KRUISER’S MORNING BRIEF: Democrats Remain Disturbingly Fond of Islamic Terrorists. “We were subjected last weekend to the zillionth Democrat production of ‘Pretend It’s Not Islamic Terrorism Even When a Five-Year-Old Can Tell It’s Islamic Terrorism.’ It’s one of the longest-running productions of the ‘Things Democrats Get Wrong’ theater.”

EVERYTHING IS GOING SWIMMINGLY: Global Economy Heading For “Mother Of All” Supply Chain Shocks As China Locks Down Ports. “For those who have forgotten last year’s global shockwave when China locked down its ports for several days, a quick reminder: it led to an unprecedented hiccup in global logistics and shipping which hasn’t been resolved to this day. That’s because China is the world’s biggest trading nation and its ability to keep its factories humming through the pandemic has been crucial for global supply chains.”
But don’t worry, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg is on top of it. He’ll have everything sorted out in a trice!
Haha, I crack myself up.
REPORT FROM THE BLUE ZONES:

BIDENFLATION: Bidenomics cost the average worker nearly two paychecks in 2021. “To put this into more practical terms, the average U.S. worker earns 26 paychecks a year on a biweekly pay schedule. Inflation in 2021 effectively wiped out nearly two of those 26 paychecks. Suffice it to say, the devastation of inflation is not evenly distributed, and as usual, the data demonstrate the damage is regressive.”
