YUP, I’M ON RECORD AGREEING WITH THAT: Order needs to be restored in NYC schools if we want students to learn.
#HIMTOO? Oscar-winning screenwriter Paul Haggis arrested in Italy on sexual assault charges. “Haggis, 69, wrote ‘Million Dollar Baby’ and co-wrote and directed crime drama ‘Crash.’ He won two Oscars for ‘Crash’ — one for ‘Best Picture’ and one for ‘Best Original Screenplay.’ In 2018 he denied accusations of sexual misconduct made by four women, including two who accused him of rape.”
AN IMPORTANT REMINDER: You Are Not Alone. “If we all speak out against it, we can bring back sanity, and protect our children. To that point, 90% of Americans oppose minors having gender transition procedures, and 72% oppose radical leftist gender theory being taught in school.”
Another important reminder, although I doubt few Instapundit readers require it: Twitter isn’t the real world.
WHY IS HIGHER EDUCATION SUCH A CESSPIT OF RACISM? University STEM program excludes white and Asian males, complaint alleges.
The U.S. Department of Education continues to allow the University of Cincinnati to discriminate against white and Asian males in its newly worded “Undergraduates Pursuing Research and Science Program,” according to a longtime economics scholar.
Mark Perry, professor emeritus of economics at the University of Michigan-Flint, told The College Fix that the university responded to a federal inquiry into its discrimination against male applicants by making the program discriminatory against white and Asian male students instead.
The public university in Ohio did this by changing the language of a STEM program to advertise it as open to applicants “from under-represented groups pursuing degrees and careers in STEM fields.” Previously, UC advertised it as a “Research Experience for Women Undergraduates.”
Taxpayers may wonder why they’re funding this industry.

MUCH OF THE PAST SEVERAL DECADES CONSISTS OF ELITES CONSUMING THE DESIGN MARGIN IN VARIOUS WAYS AND THINKING IT WAS RETURN ON INVESTMENT:

“Then the Gods of the Market tumbled, and their smooth-tongued wizards withdrew,
And the hearts of the meanest were humbled and began to believe it was true
That All is not Gold that Glitters, and Two and Two make Four—
And the Gods of the Copybook Headings limped up to explain it once more.”
And we know how it ends: “the Gods of the Copybook Headings, with terror and slaughter return.”
Joseph Tainter’s The Collapse of Complex Societies is all about the loss of design margins, generally due to overproduction of unproductive elites. As he notes, societies that become too complex and burdened with elites fall to challenges they would have easily weathered in the past, because they no long can deploy the necessary resources. Everything is already somebody’s rice bowl, until the rice runs out.
DON’T OVERLOOK THE INFLATIONARY EFFECTS OF EASY CREDIT AND DEBT FORGIVENESS: Student-Loan Forgiveness Will Cover Non-Education Purchases, Say, Newer Cars. “Critics of student-loan forgiveness have overlooked how student-loan forgiveness can effectively morph into forgiveness of other non-education purchases, say, cars, trips, and home remodels (and a multitude of other goods). This is made possible by student loans that come with government subsidies and guarantees and, consequently, more attractive interest rates and repayment terms than personal loans (and, now, with the added prospects of payment pauses and loan forgiveness).”

‘THE MAGICIAN’S TWIN:’ This extremely well-done short documentary on HillFaith from the Discovery Institute’s Center for Science and Culture looks at C.S. Lewis — he of “Mere Christianity,” “The Screwtape Letters,” “The Problem of Pain” and other great works of apologetics, fiction and literary criticism — and why he had such a difficult time coming to terms philosophically with Intelligent Design (ID).
Ultimately, Lewis did get there, but this documentary explicates his journey with great clarity and thus provides a useful primer for those today who may be having similar struggles. Maybe you end up with Lewis, maybe not, but this video will, hopefully, make the trip easier and more rewarding.
Based on the comments, pro and con, here to my several previous ID-related posts, and the private messages I’ve gotten in connection with the same, I think there are likely about equal numbers on the two sides of the decideds, but a rather large crowd of folks who don’t yet know how they come down on the ID issue. This should be helpful, regardless which way you ultimately go, if any.
THE PRESS DOESN’T MIND IF REPUBLICANS ARE KILLED, ESPECIALLY IF IT MIGHT FLIP THE SUPREME COURT: The shameful silence on the plot against Brett Kavanaugh: Why aren’t we talking about the attempted murder of a Supreme Court justice?
And I don’t think Merrick Garland is exactly prioritizing protecting the justices, either.
MESS CLEANER-UPPER REPORTING FOR DUTY: After Failed Search Following Resignation Of Dean Due To Mishandling Of Sexual Misconduct Allegations, Tax Prof Elaine Gagliardi Named Interim Dean At Montana Law School. “Following the shake-up in leadership last year, a trio of law professors, Monte Mills, Sara Rinfret and Cathay Y.N. According to the email from [Provost] Mahdavi, Mills and Rinfret “are pursuing exciting opportunities beyond UM next year,” and Smith will be on sabbatical next school year.”

IF WE OFFERED TO GIVE IT BACK, I DOUBT SPAIN WOULD WANT IT: On this day in 1898, the American flag was first raised on the island of Guam. Its capture was slightly comical. Spain had had control of Guam since the 17th century. But it wasn’t exactly considered the Pearl of the Spanish Empire, so Spain had stationed only a tiny garrison there. And despite the fact that the Spanish-American War had been declared two months before, nobody had gotten around to telling the guys on Guam.
When the U.S.S. Charleston arrived on June 20 with orders to take the island, it fired on the Spanish fort. It’s unclear whether it missed or only intended a warning shot. In any event, the locals mistook the shot for a friendly salute. Several eagerly went out to greet the Americans. Among those who came out was Guam’s leading merchant–Francisco Portusach–who turned out to be a naturalized American citizen and an old friend of one of the officers. When he learned the true circumstances of their visit, he wanted to help.
The capture of Guam was thus bloodless. The Spanish governor wasn’t exactly thrilled to surrender to the Americans, but his forces were significantly outnumbered, and he wasn’t a fool. On June 21, the Spanish flag came down, and the Stars and Stripes went up. Easy peasy.
HOW ABOUT WE STOP HAVING COLLISIONS AND SHIP FIRES FIRST: Here’s How the Navy Is Training Sailors on Proper Gender Pronouns.
DEMOCRAT MAYOR SUCKER PUNCHED TO THE GROUND AT JUNETEENTH EVENT:
The Mayor of Louisville, Kentucky was assaulted by a man on Saturday evening while attending a Juneteenth celebration at Fourth Street Live.
Video of the assault, obtained exclusively by WAVE News Troubleshooters, showed the suspect, a black male, approaching Democratic Mayor Greg Fischer and sucker punching him in either the upper chest or throat. The force of the punch knocked Fischer to the ground.
Fischer declared racism a “public health crisis” in 2020, but fortunately, The View assures me that violence only happens on the right: The View Denies Leftist Political Violence Exists, ‘Mainstream’ in GOP.
NEWS YOU CAN USE: When Asked ‘What Are Your Pronouns,’ Don’t Answer.
The redefining of “man,” “woman,” “boy” and “girl” around sex-related stereotypes has serious real-world implications. The rejection of these stereotypes is now commonly viewed as a medical condition (gender dysphoria) to be treated with puberty blockers (for children), cross-sex hormones and surgeries that result in permanent sterility and consign patients to a lifetime of medical bills. The redefinition is also threatening the safety of women in prisons, as well as compromising the safety, fairness and dignity of women and girls in sports, as males who simply “identify” as girls or women are allowed access to these protected spaces.
The effort to resist gender ideology is reality’s last stand. We simply can’t ignore fundamental realities of our biology and expect positive outcomes for society. Pronoun rituals are extremely effective at normalizing and institutionalizing the abolition of biological sex in favor of gender identity. These rituals take advantage of people’s confusion and compassion to achieve compliance. But the time for politeness has long passed. The only proper response to the question “What are your pronouns?” is to reject the premise and refuse to answer.

COLORADO: Declining water levels caused by government, not climate.
The Colorado River Research Group, a team of scholars at Utah State University, studies this River system, from perspectives in social, physical, and biological sciences, along with water law and public policy. In 2018, they highlighted the role of policy decisions in draining Lake Powell, in a paper aptly titled, “It’s Hard to Fill a Bathtub When the Drain is Wide Open.” That is precisely what has happened at Lake Powell, yet the report has been largely ignored. It should be required reading for everyone concerned about the Colorado River.
Lake Powell was created for the primary purpose of administering the Interstate Compact – ensuring the Upper Basin states can deliver the water they are required to send downstream, even in dry years. It was completed in 1966 and finally filled to its 27 million acre-foot capacity by 1980. But since 2000, the water level has dropped 94 feet, even though the Upper Basin states have consistently used only 60 percent of their entitlements. The lake holds barely 10 million acre-feet today.
In reservoirs designed for multi‐year carryover storage, “declines are expected in dry years, and recovery is expected in wet years.” But at Lake Powell, “When large inflows do occur, current operational rules immediately trigger large releases.” In the extremely wet year of 2011, for example, inflow at Lake Powell was five million acre-feet above average. But the Bureau immediately opened the gates and sent it all downstream to Lake Mead, benefitting California, Las Vegas, and fish. No wonder Lake Powell cannot recover during wet years.
The report acknowledges that several dry years contributed to the water level drop, “but ultimately it is the operational rules that are slowly but surely draining Lake Powell.”
Plus: “To be clear, it was the Interior Department’s Bureau of Reclamation – not global warming – that changed the rules for managing river flows.”
Yes, but it’s easier to sell the public on global warming economic controls when you can point to shrinking water reservoirs.
