SPACE PORK IS NOT HARMLESS: The SLS rocket may have curbed development of on-orbit refueling for a decade.

“Let’s be very honest again,” Bolden said in a 2014 interview. “We don’t have a commercially available heavy lift vehicle. Falcon 9 Heavy may someday come about. It’s on the drawing board right now. SLS is real. You’ve seen it down at Michoud. We’re building the core stage. We have all the engines done, ready to be put on the test stand at Stennis… I don’t see any hardware for a Falcon 9 Heavy, except that he’s going to take three Falcon 9s and put them together and that becomes the Heavy. It’s not that easy in rocketry.”

SpaceX privately developed the Falcon Heavy rocket for about $500 million, and it flew its first flight in February 2018. It has now flown three successful missions. NASA has spent about $14 billion on the SLS rocket and related development costs since 2011. That rocket is not expected to fly before at least mid or late 2021.

NASA can’t deliver. It hasn’t delivered in 50 years.

THE KNIVES ARE OUT: Tulsi Gabbard Is No Peacenik:

Gabbard, an Iraq war veteran, has made opposition to war her signature issue. During the second round of the Democratic debates, she was the only candidate who promised to “end wasteful regime change wars” and “take the trillions of dollars that we’ve been wasting on these wars and … redirect those resources into serving the needs of our people right here at home.” But that doesn’t make her a peacenik; it makes her an America-Firster, just like President Trump. Indeed, although she went out of her way to condemn Trump as a “warmonger,” there isn’t much daylight between her position and his — which is no doubt why the former White House aide Stephen Bannon, the notorious architect of Trump’s America First campaign, interviewed her for a position in the administration.

Question for InstaPundit readers: After reading this piece, do you like her more, or less — bearing in mind that you’re probably not the target audience.

I’LL GIVE THIS TO LEFTIST LUDDITES: They are great at neologisms. Apparently using restaurant delivery services is “convenience maximalism.”

QTWTAIN: Was July 2019 the hottest month on record? Nope.

REAPER TRAINING EXERCISE: An MQ-9 Reaper assigned to the 214th Attack Group, Arizona Air National Guard flies over Michigan in a training exercise, July 24, 2019.

HIGHER EDUCATION BUBBLE UPDATE: University questions former student’s sexuality after he accuses gay professor of sexual assault. “Sexual history is supposed to be off-limits when interviewing parties in a sexual-assault legal proceeding, unless the questions are relevant to the accusations. The University of Michigan, however, is making sexual history front and center in its fight against a lawsuit by a former student that accused the school of turning a blind eye to sexual misconduct by a gay professor. The Detroit Free Press reports that the taxpayer-funded institution asked Andrew Lipian a series of questions in his deposition intended to ferret out whether he’s a closeted gay man.”

That’s different because shut up.

BUT THERE ARE A BUNCH OF DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATES WITH PLANS TO FIX THAT: Record 157,288,000 Employed in July. “The number of people employed in the United States hit a record 157,288,000 in July, according to the employment report released today by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That was up 283,000 from the 157,005,000 employed in June.”

A job does people more good than any government program. Which is problematic when your entire operation depends on convincing people they need more government programs.
