MATTRESS GIRL GOES CONSERVATIVE-CURIOUS: Did Emma Sulkowicz Get Redpilled? At the very least, she’s found a new social set.

During the summer of 2018, Sulkowicz tells me, she was single for the first time in years. Swiping through Tinder, a man she found “distasteful” super-liked her. “It smelled like Connecticut,” she says of his profile. “He was very blond, law school, cut jawline, trapezoidal body figure, tweed suit kind of vibe, but something inside of me made me swipe right, I don’t know.” They began messaging, and she found him witty. “He was actually way more fun to talk to than any other person I matched with.”

Eventually, Sulkowicz stalked him on Twitter and realized that he was conservative — “like, very conservative.” At first, she was repulsed and considered breaking it off. But then she thought, “Wait, actually, that’s kind of fucked up because he’s the most interesting person I’ve come across, shouldn’t I be open to talking to him?” After dispelling her initial fear, she texted him that it would be “interesting (progressive? Powerful?) for two people who might be the antithesis of each other to go on a Tinder date.” . . .

Soon, she began attending house parties and happy hours with conservative and libertarian intellectuals, reading Jordan Peterson and articles from the National Review. In the past, Sulkowicz dismissed opposing views without understanding them, but now she sees intellectual curiosity as intertwined with respect: she wants to disagree with people on their own terms.

Congrats to “Chad,” who’s a braver man than most to knowingly match with Mattress Girl on Tinder.

OPEN THREAD: Go for it.

THIS JUST IN: U.S. Judge William Bertelsman today reversed course and ruled that attorneys for Nick Sandmann could start discovery for a portion of their lawsuit against the Washington Post over its coverage of the so-called Cov Cath incident. It turns out that on reconsideration, the Court found that at least three of the sued-upon statements were both defamatory and the complaint was plausible enough to warrant discovery. The ruling (hidden behind PACER paywall) which revives the case, states that:

“The Court also notes that the proposed First Amended Complaint makes specific allegations concerning the state of mind of [Nathan] Phillips, the principal source of these statements. It alleges in greater detail than the original complaint that Phillips deliberately lied concerning the events at issue, and that he had an unsavory reputation which, but for the defendant’s negligence or malice, would have alerted defendant to this fact.”

Seems to me the Post has three options: 1) continue to publicly slime the teen; 2) admit they were in a rush to publish and took the word of a less-than trustworthy source (shades of Rolling Stone’s “Jackie”!) or 3) fight in court till the last dog is hanged and try to grind them down to settlement by attrition and financial exhaustion.

More to come, I’m sure.

JUST THINK OF THE MEDIA AS DEMOCRATIC PARTY ACTIVISTS WITH BYLINES, AND IT ALL MAKES SENSE:  Media Tries To Suggest Katie Hill Did Nothing Wrong, Even Though Congress Passed Bill Last Year Banning What She Did.

Meanwhile, Politico’s Michael Calderone blows the doors off the real scandal here! “Wow, you’ve successfully proven that ‘RedState’ is in the tank for Republicans.”

That’s some next level Hercule Poirot-worthy detective work, right there.

UPDATE: NBC Covers for Katie Hill.

Which is pretty on-brand for NBC in the #MeToo era: It’s time to pluck some peacock and clean house at NBC News.

2020: A BITTER CLINGER’S DEPLORABLE ODYSSEY: With the “Latest Polling Indicates Kamala Harris’ Campaign Has Cratered in Iowa,” Glenn warned last Sunday, “Iowans To Be Declared Racist Shortly.”  And that time is at hand. But not just racist — sexist as well! As Ed Morrissey writes, “Kamala Harris: My failing campaign shows America’s not ready for a woman of color as president.”

One also has to wonder at the long-range strategy behind tossing this race/gender card at Democratic voters. After all, Harris isn’t out campaigning for Republican votes at this stage. When she claims that “there is a lack of ability or difficulty in imagining” that a woman of color can be president, Harris is making that claim about the Democrats who are stampeding away from her candidacy and toward Warren, Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders, and even Pete Buttigieg.

Can Harris win a Democratic presidential primary by calling its voters racists and bigots? Almost certainly not, but it will be hilariously fun to watch her try.

Of course, it’s not the first time she’s insulted Iowa Democrats. In September, “she told her coworker, Senator Mazie Hirono, she’s ‘moving to f***ing Iowa.’”

While Kamala’s a cop, even Jack Webb would have known not to say something that impolitic.

Q. HOW DO YOU SAY “JEREMY CORBYN” IN YIDDISH?: A. Bernie Sanders. Get this: The Israeli government is too “racist” for Bernie’s taste, so he wants to give money instead to the progressive humanitarians of … Hamas! No word on how Bernie feels about throwing gays off rooftops.

JIM TREACHER IS ASKING THE IMPORTANT QUESTIONS ABOUT THE AL-BAGHDADI RAID:

Initial reports overstated the severity of the dog’s wounds, and she’s already back on duty. And although her name isn’t being released, her face is now famous…Seriously, though, I just have a few questions for this war hero:

  1. Who’s a good girl?
  2. Are you a good girl?
  3. Wanna go outside?
  4. Who is a good, good girl?

Sorry, cat-lovers, but you’ll never feel this sort of pride. Cats are useless on the battlefield. A cat would’ve just stared at al-Baghdadi as he ran away. A cat might’ve even helped him! Cats are cute, but you just can’t trust ’em when it counts.

Indeed. Read the whole thing.

THE TERRORISTS HAVE WON: ‘Baby It’s Woke Outside?’ John Legend has co-written an updated version of ‘Baby It’s Cold Outside’ that revolves around consent.

As Mark Steyn wrote in 2014:

A few decades back, a young middle-class Egyptian spending some time in the US had the misfortune to be invited to a dance one weekend and was horrified at what he witnessed:

The room convulsed with the feverish music from the gramophone. Dancing naked legs filled the hall, arms draped around the waists, chests met chests, lips met lips . . .

Where was this den of debauchery? Studio 54 in the 1970s? Haight-Ashbury in the summer of love? No, the throbbing pulsating sewer of sin was Greeley, Colorado, in 1949. As it happens, Greeley, Colorado, in 1949 was a dry town. The dance was a church social. And the feverish music was “Baby, It’s Cold Outside,” as introduced by Esther Williams in “Neptune’s Daughter.” Revolted by the experience, Sayyid Qutb decided that America (and modernity in general) was an abomination, returned to Egypt, became the leading intellectual muscle in the Muslim Brotherhood, and set off a chain that led from Qutb to Zawahiri to bin Laden to the Hindu Kush to the Balkans to 9/11 to the brief Muslim Brotherhood takeover of Egypt to the Islamic State marching across Syria and Iraq. Indeed, Qutb’s view of the West is the merest extension of “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” — America as the ultimate seducer, the Great Satan.

I’m a reasonable chap, and I’d be willing to meet the Muslim Brotherhood chaps halfway on a lot of the peripheral stuff like beheadings, stonings, clitoridectomies and whatnot. But you’ll have to pry “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” from my cold dead hands and my dancing naked legs. A world without “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” would be very cold indeed.

Indeed.™

BUT OF COURSE: Social Justice Activist Gets Kicked Out Of Fellowship For Constant Complaints, Claims Racism. “The student, Julia Feliz, uses the pronouns ‘they’ and ‘them,’ and, according to other students in the program, would constantly tie every classroom issue to social justice issues. This took time away from science, and frustrated other fellows.”

I think she should have been booted for anti-immigrant prejudice:

A student from Nigeria said “the fellowship was an inappropriate forum for Feliz to make comments on social justice.” A student from Kenya said Feliz “was an activist in sessions” and that the activism “came out in every single session that we had.”

Feliz called these statements “NeoColonialism in real time.”

What an annoying twit.
