EMMETT TILL SIGHS: Female writer who notes campus rape accusations target black men isn’t woke enough for women’s college.

Emily Yoffe has done more than perhaps any journalist to highlight the marginalized victims of what she calls the “campus rape overcorrection”: men of color, particularly African Americans.

But because she argues that Title IX has been weaponized against those who are least able to defend themselves, she’s insufficiently woke to appear at her alma mater, a women’s liberal arts college.

That’s according to a student activist who published an op-ed in The Wellesley News the day before Wellesley College hosted Yoffe through its Freedom Project, which promotes “tolerance, pluralism, intellectual diversity, and freedom of expression.”

Yoffe’s Nov. 14 event was focused on how “a well-intended policy designed to address sexual misconduct injustices against young women has created a system of injustices against the accused,” referring to the Obama administration’s since-rescinded Title IX guidance.

It has instead “expanded definitions of misconduct to encompass almost any sexual behavior on campus, and promulgated pseudo-scientific assertions that undermine women’s agency,” according to the event description. (It does not appear to be posted on any Wellesley video archive.)

Becca Pachl, who transferred to Wellesley after getting a scholarship for its Contemporary Women’s Leadership program, denounced her college not only for “its sanction of Yoffe’s lecture on campus” but also the timing of the event.

Some “leadership.”

MICHAEL COHEN ENTERS PLEA DEAL WITH MUELLER.. Here, courtesy of the Special Counsel Press Office, is the plea agreement. The plea is to a violation of the False Statements Act in relation to his Congressional testimony.

For those interested in going deeper, I recommend Peter W. Morgan’s The Undefined Crime of Lying to Congress: Ethics Reform and the Rule of Law, 86 Northwestern U. L. Rev. 177 (1992). And here’s a New Yorker piece by Jeffrey Rosen. Excerpt: “Perjury traps have become a popular tactic among independent counsels: if they can’t prove the alleged crime they were appointed to investigate, they indict suspects for lying to investigators. But the traps are effective only because independent counsels have succeeded over the past few decades in expanding the lying laws far beyond their historical roots.”

LIZ SHELD’S MORNING BRIEF: No Khashoggi Smoking Gun and Much, Much More. “The media and the left are looking to blow up the US’s relationship with KSA over Khashoggi’s murder, which was conveniently leaked to the world by Turkey, who is aligned against KSA/Israel/US and aligned with Iran. Wild, right?”

HEINLEIN’S CRAZY YEARS (CONT’D): Mom Dresses Six-Year-Old Son As Girl, Threatens Dad With Losing His Son For Disagreeing.

Six-year-old James is caught in a gender identity nightmare. Under his mom’s care in Dallas, Texas, James obediently lives as a trans girl named “Luna.” But given the choice when he’s with dad, he’s all boy — his sex at birth.

In their divorce proceedings, the mother has charged the father with child abuse for not affirming James as transgender, has sought restraining orders against him, and is seeking to terminate his parental rights. She is also seeking to require him to pay for the child’s visits to a transgender-affirming therapist and transgender medical alterations, which may include hormonal sterilization starting at age eight.

There’s child abuse going on here, and it isn’t coming from the father.

WE CANNOT SIMPLY DRILL OUR WAY TO LOWER PRICES OR WHATEVS: Why Oil Prices Took Such a Tumble—and What Comes Next.

The International Energy Agency now predicts oil inventories will exceed their five-year average in Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development countries imminently. If they keep rising, that could put even more pressure on prices to fall the way they did in 2014, when inventories swelled.

High inventories are a headache for the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, which began cutting output in January 2016 to drain the last supply glut and stabilize prices. It worked for two years. But OPEC’s efforts are now clearly starting to falter. This has fueled expectations that the cartel will agree to further cut output at its meeting on Dec. 6.

“There is a determination from Saudi and OPEC to target inventories to avoid a big build like it happened back then (2014-2016),” said Giovanni Serio, head of research at Vitol Group, the world’s largest independent oil trader. “If OPEC continues to respond to fundamental conditions, we should be fairly confident that stocks are not going to explode.”

That’s more marketshare for American oil — thanks, Obama!

ROGER KIMBALL: Welcome Back to the Big Bully Boy Scout Show. “Inquiring minds want to know. Why haven’t the New York Times and the rest of the Democratic party media apparatus—to say nothing of the office of the special counsel—taken an interest in the Podesta brothers, John and Tony? The latter worked with Paul Manafort in the Ukraine, the former was the head of Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign. Interesting, no? . . . In a way, the despicable Robert Mueller is just a patsy in this surreal carnival. He has been empowered, at great public expense ($40 million and counting), to Get Trump. That’s the unspoken brief. Along the way, of course, he gobbles up the lives of a wide circle of the president’s associates in order to make such association toxic. His lack of curiosity, and lack of ferocity, about Glenn Simpson and his X-rated, fact-free dossier, the fairy tale that got the whole ‘Russian collusion’ meme started in the first place, speaks volumes.”

THE DESECRATION OF THE CEMETERY OF CONFUCIUS: Over the course of this month in 1966, gangs of Maoist students tore up the Cemetery of Confucius.

On November 29, 1966, they sent the following celebratory telegram to their hero:

Dearest Chairman Mao:

One hundred thousand members of the revolutionary masses would like to report a thrilling development to you: We have rebelled! We have dragged out the clay statue of [Confucius]; we have torn down the plaque extolling the “teacher of ten-thousand generations”; we have leveled Confucius’s grave; we have smashed the stelae extolling the virtues of feudal emperors and kings; and we have obliterated the statues in the Confucian temple!

Swell.  They apparently didn’t mention it, but they also dug up one or more corpses and hung them naked from trees. As the People’s Daily editorialized a couple of months later, “To struggle against Confucius, the feudal mummy, and thoroughly eradicate … reactionary Confucianism is one of our important tasks in the Great Cultural Revolution.”

Why? One important reason is that Confucius emphasized filial loyalty. Totalitarianism cannot tolerate the institution of the family: All loyalty must be to the State.

DIVERSITY IS OUR STRENGTH: French Court cites ‘cultural norms’ in acquitting Muslim rapist.

A Muslim refugee from Bangladesh was acquitted of the rape of a high school girl – with a French court excusing the sexual attack due to the young man’s “different cultural norms.”

The young Islamic migrant was also charged with sexually assaulting another young girl, but his defense argued that he should not be held responsible because he could have misinterpreted his aggressive sexual contact with the girl due to his Muslim “cultural codes.”

Excuses, excuses

The politically correct explanation for acquitting the rapist contended that he should not be accountable for the attack because of the way Muslim men traditionally sexually victimize and abuse women back in Bangladesh.

“Experts who investigated the man described him as narcissistic and self-centered and that in the male culture of Bangladesh – his country of origin – ‘women are relegated to the status of sexual object,’” the Voice of Europe reported.

And now they are in France, too.

CRITICS HAVING FIELD DAY BLASTING LATEST ‘CLIMATE ASSESSMENT:’ It was produced by an estimated 1,000 government employees from 13 federal departments and agencies in a sort of consortium led by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The report predicts all the usual scary climate change horrors if the world doesn’t give up fossil fuels.

Inconveniently for Al Gore and the rest of the global warming crowd, however, a growing chorus of critics, including more than a few eminently qualified science types, are pointing out a host of statistical flaws and errors of logic in the models used by the report’s authors, according to LifeZette.

Even more inconveniently, Andrew Wheeler, the guy presently running the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on an acting basis, says it’s time to take a serious look at the models. Doing that might actually inject some semblance of credibility into the climate assessment field. That will send Gore and company absolutely, totally and irretrievably around the bend.

LATE-STAGE SOCIALISM: Venezuela Economy Contracted 29.8 Percent in Third Quarter-Congress.

That was a sharper deceleration than the OPEC nation’s 16.6 percent contraction in 2017, according to preliminary data compiled by the country’s central bank. The economy has been in freefall since oil prices collapsed in 2014, quickening the unravelling of an already-faltering socialist system.

“Hyperinflation, the fall in oil production and the lack of confidence in the economic model are the reasons for the economy’s disastrous behaviour,” said opposition lawmaker Angel Alvarado.

The National Assembly has become the sole source of reliable gross domestic product (GDP) and inflation data since the central bank stopped publishing economic indicators in 2015.

Short of what happened to Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan in 1945, that might be record for economic collapse — and it’s all self-inflicted.
