KRUISER’S MORNING BRIEF: DNC Night One — I Think the Democrats Want Trump to Win. “A series of individually recorded remote speeches gave it a ‘Gee we’re sorry we can’t be there for your 90th birthday, Uncle Joe,’ vibe. That’s perfectly fine when it’s Uncle Joe’s 90th birthday but it’s not as fun if it’s Uncle Joe’s 90th attempt at becoming President of the United States. And Uncle Joe isn’t even at his own party to watch because he’s in the basement.”

It was actually worse than all that.

WAIT, I THOUGHT HE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE THE MODERATE: Joe Biden Wants a Green New Deal. “That plan includes Green New Deal-style proposals such as a ‘civilian climate corps’ and the mass retrofitting of America’s homes and vehicles. It also reproduces key features of President Barack Obama’s environmental agenda, including a focus on regulating consumer products and the return of the questionably effective ‘cash for clunkers’ program. And it incorporates many of the concerns of the Democratic Party’s activist base, including a separate plan for pursuing ‘environmental justice’ by targeting federal subsidies to minority groups.”

Biden’s three main Green Nude Eel planks are indoctrination training for young people (what, did the public schools miss a few?), destroying millions of perfectly good used cars, and backdoor reparations.

Some “moderate.”

WHO? BidenWatch for August 17, 2020. “The Virtual DNC starts today, voters are not sold on Slow Joe, Team Obama thinks he’s an idiot, he hates the Second Amendment, and we harvest a week’s worth of Kamala Harris bashing.”

VODKAPUNDIT PRESENTS YOUR DAILY INSANITY WRAP: Obama’s Painful Endorsement, and Introducing Fraud-by-Mail.

Before we get to the sordid details, a quick preview of today’s Wrap.

And so much more, you’d have to be crazy to miss it.

KRUISER’S MORNING BRIEF: Liberals Use Death of President Trump’s Brother to Reaffirm That They’re Classless Garbage. “When I see liberals I know participating in their online hive mind they become different people altogether. It’s as if they have to out awful each other just to maintain some sort of liberal street cred. I have friends who I know to be reasonable liberals who then become hideous human beings on Facebook or Twitter.”

FASTER, PLEASE: Gottlieb says U.S. likely “a long way” from herd immunity to virus.

Gottlieb said seroprevalence studies overall indicate that roughly 8% of the U.S. population has been exposed to the coronavirus, though the rate of exposure varies depending on whether states have experienced outbreaks. In Arizona, for example, roughly 25% of the population has been exposed based on modeling, while as much as 20% of the population in Florida has been exposed, he said.

“That’s getting closer to a level of immunity where the rate of transmission will start to decline,” Gottlieb said. “It’s not quite herd immunity, but you’re to see declines in the rate of transmission because of that level of infection.”

Despite all the hand-wringing by the press, it looks like the Sun Belt is doing much better than elsewhere.

ORBIT: Sierra Nevada’s slick new space plane ditches capsules for the shuttle route.

This stylish unmanned space plane was recently given its official name, Tenacity, and a pair of exotic composite material wings to complete its sleek design. Constructed by the Colorado-based aerospace firm Sierra Nevada Corporation, Dream Chaser is meant to launch vertically atop a booster rocket and completes its missions with gliding runway landings similar to NASA’s retired fleet of space shuttles.

Tenacity is tentatively scheduled to blast off for its debut in late 2021, locked to the tip of a powerful United Launch Alliance Vulcan Centaur rocket at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

“It’s an SUV for space — a Space Utility Vehicle,” Kimberly Schwandt, Sierra Nevada’s communications director, told Space. “Our dream is to have a whole fleet of space planes.”

NATO: Trump, France’s Macron voice concern about Greece-Turkey tensions. “NATO allies Turkey and Greece are embroiled in a dispute over Turkish oil and gas exploration in disputed eastern Mediterranean waters. Turkey said on Friday France should refrain from steps that escalate tensions after the French military conducted training exercises with Greek forces in the region on Thursday.”
