WILDLIFE IS TASTY: Montana moves to make roadkill legal to eat: Is ‘freeganism’ a good idea? Uh… who wanted to make it illegal in the first place? (And if you’re ever at a science fiction con with my friend Dave Freer, do ask him about his road kill story. One word. Rhinoceros.)
I’M ON THE WILDLIFE BEAT TODAY: Well, actually the wildlife beats conservationists. (Video.)
BUT NO MATTER WHAT YOU SAY, THE MARKET IS GONNA GET YOU: The Invisible Bitch-Slap.
BUT THAT’S JUST CRAZY TALK: Walter Russel Mead: The more we hear about what was going on in the era of sexual liberation, the more the Catholic scandals look like a symptom of the times rather than a special pathology of the Church. Go read the whole thing.
CURIOUS WHAT MAKES IT TO THE NEWS: Staring into the eyes of death: Man has a chilling face to face encounter with a mountain lion peering into his rustic home in the Rocky Mountains. I used to live in this same small mountain town (much closer to the main road) and I can tell you this is not even unusual. I once took younger boy to kindergarten an hour late because there was a baby bear on the front porch and I assumed mom was nearby. I finally solved the problem by opening the window a crack and singing, which made the bear run away. For years after, my son bragged to anyone who’d listen that “mom’s singing scares bears!”
