THIS SEEMS TRUE:

ONE OF THE 21ST CENTURY’S BIGGEST PROBLEMS:

HIGHLY PLAUSIBLE: Study links poor sleep to self-harm in teenagers.

I suspect an awful lot of teenage pathologies are linked to poor sleep. I, on the other hand, sleep like a baby because my conscience is clean. From this morning’s Oura Ring output:

HAHA:

Prediction: The profusion of English, Welsh, and Scottish flags as a symbol of resistance to a criminal national government may lead to the unraveling of the UK. Americans seldom appreciate that British people still care about the differences between those three nations, but they do. And I suspect they will care more.

ELDERLY LEFTIST WHITE WOMEN ARE ALL THAT’S LEFT TO THEM:

And they have . . . issues.

SEDUCTIVE AI: AI chatbots and their poisonous delusions are coming for our kids.

AI can be your friend, we’re told. Your confidant! Your lover!

This is all a lie.

AI can pretend to be these things, mirroring your inputs and stroking your ego with programmed responses, but can never actually care about you the way a friend will.

True.

JIMMY LAI UPDATE: Convict and Deport.

The prosecution of media tycoon Jimmy Lai epitomizes this overreach, reflecting a city under Beijing’s administrative dominance, jeopardizing its role as a global financial hub. Deporting Lai and other activists offers a pragmatic solution to mitigate economic damage while affirming Beijing’s control. Hong Kong’s distinct identity, shaped by its British colonial past blended Eastern and Western influences. The 1997 handover, under the Sino-British Joint Declaration, promised autonomy, including judicial independence and freedoms of speech and assembly, until 2047.

However, Beijing’s influence, challenged by the 2014 Umbrella Movement and 2019 anti-extradition protests, culminated in the NSL. Imposed by Beijing, bypassing Hong Kong’s Legislative Council, it criminalizes secession, subversion, terrorism, and collusion with foreigners, with vague definitions enabling broad enforcement. The 2024 Article 23 expansion, targeting “external interference” and “espionage,” has deepened the climate of fear, where even minor dissent invites scrutiny.
