While authorities initially said they believed that Barry chose the restaurant randomly for a ‘lone wolf’ attack, it now seems likely that the restaurant was targeted because the owner, Hany Baransi, is from Israel, and proudly displayed an Israeli flag in his window. According to Baransi, Barry asked a server a half-hour before the attack where the owner was from, and she confirmed that Baransi was from Israel.”
