Amusingly, he extemporized after they “accidentally” shut off his teleprompter as soon as he walked up. And they shut down the escalator as soon as he stepped on it. They thought that would shut him up? They really are morons.

First off, this was 100% deliberate. Just by itself, it would already have been extraordinarily unlikely given the coincidence with Trump stepping on the escalator, but this foreshadowing makes it indisputably intentional.
