An America filled with faith, buoyant with energy and confidence and optimism. An America in which everyone trusted in the goodwill and good sense of their fellow citizens and believed that talking it out in a town square or a town meeting was just the way we do things here. Now I personally don’t necessarily share that trust, or maybe I think that our time is a darker time. But I’m glad that there was someone like Charlie who walked in the light of that America, the America that once was and might be again.”
