DAN MARKEL UPDATE: Chief DeLeo: More arrests expected in Dan Markel murder-for-hire plot.

Tallahassee Police Chief Michael DeLeo stopped short of calling Dan Markel’s ex-wife Wendi Adelson, her brother or any other family members formal suspects in his murder at a news conference this afternoon.

But he did confirm the couple’s contentious divorce – they argued over money and custody of their two young sons – was “a motivating factor in this murder.”

He would not elaborate on whether any of the Adelsons are being watched or have been interviewed. When asked if he knows their whereabouts, he replied with a smirk: “We aren’t on speaking terms.”

DeLeo also confirmed that the relationship between Adelson’s brother, Charles Adelson, and the mother of suspect Sigfredo Garcia’s children, was “a very personal relationship.” The woman, Katherine Magbanua, was characterized in Garcia’s arrest documents as the link between the accused killer and the Adelsons.

Magbanua is still being investigated, DeLeo said.

“It is more probable than not there will be additional arrests,” he said.

Garcia’s accomplice, Luis Rivera, is currently being held in a federal correctional institution outside Orlando on unrelated charges, DeLeo added.
