WEIRD, BUT LET’S GIVE IT A TRY: Don’t let people who hate America move here.

I pledge allegiance to the flag …

I heard those strange words for the first time at Riverside Elementary School in 1976, as a first-grader who had just moved to the United States with my family. I learned quickly how to say the words, but it took me much longer to learn what they mean.

Like Jefferson, Franklin and Washington, I was born English but chose to become an American. I took US history in middle and high school, got a degree in history, and later taught American history to 8th- and 11th-graders.

But though I knew the names and dates, nothing taught me to love my country like spending half my life outside of it, including 23 years as a US diplomat in Africa, Asia and Europe. The singularity of American freedom and opportunity is best proven through comparison.

Like many other Americans who came here legally and became citizens, nothing rankles me more than seeing disrespect, ingratitude, and even homicidal violence from some who have been granted the opportunity to come here — or allowed to remain despite coming illegally.

You’d figure the least they could do would be to obey our rules and respect our culture and values.

“Assimilation” is a dirty word to Americans who don’t like America very much.

JOHN HINDERAKER: Mass Murder at USAID?

If you listened to liberals, you would never cut any government spending, because all spending cuts cause people to die. How anyone ever survived before the modern era of behemoth government is a mystery.

The Trump administration’s pause on dispensation of USAID grants is a case in point. We know that many USAID programs were money-laundering operations for the global Left that needed to be shut down. Happily, that is being done. The administration says that legitimate aid programs that survive scrutiny will continue. I have no idea what the status of current program funding is, and this is not easy to discern from news accounts, which are often hysterical and rarely informative.

Thus, liberals are now asserting that USAID cuts have caused 300,000 people to die. U2 frontman Bono made this claim on the Joe Rogan podcast. It didn’t fare well.

Well, you know, it isn’t remotely true, and Bono isn’t remotely bright.

And even if it were true, many taxpayers wonder why it’s their responsibility to save the lives of people in other countries who often as not hate them.

CBO HEADED FOR A DOGE AUDIT? – Won’t literally be done by the DOGE corps of waste and fraud killers in the executive branch, but there is a movement that is gaining some traction on the Hill for a DOGE-like top-to-bottom audit of the Congressional Budget Office. My exclusive report is on The Washington Stand this morning.

THE PROBLEM WITH THE ELITES IS THAT THEY FALL FOR FADS:  When the fads are fashion and how to speak, it’s one thing. Once it becomes a poisonous political ideology, and the oikophobia it engenders, there’s going to be trouble.  ‘Elite’ university system should be burned to the ground.

YEAH. THEY DO COVER UP ATTACKS ON JEWS. AND I’M GETTING SICK AND TIRED OF IT:  ‘Bout covers it.
