STANDING UP TO THE COMMISSARS: ‘I was afraid to even defend myself’: Student sues university that restricted her speech on campus.

Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) filed a lawsuit against Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville (SIUE) after three no-contact orders allegedly chilled a student’s First Amendment rights.

The lawsuit was filed on behalf of SIUE student Maggie DeJong, who received the orders after allegedly offending a student with Christian rhetoric.

The “no-contact orders” barred her from any on- or off-campus activity where she may come in contact with the accuser.

“They discriminated against her speech,” DeJong’s lawyer Greg Walters told Campus Reform.”They threatened her future speech.”

Make them pay.

“In every instance, Biden has said he and his top officials were ‘caught off guard.’ In other words, his is pleading incompetence. The public has picked up on this, which is why most Americans now believe that ‘incompetent’ is the word that best describes this president.”

Still, what about this: “But incompetence doesn’t do Biden justice. In every case, Biden knew, or should have known, what would happen if he pushed his policies. Yet he did so anyway.” It’s a highly disturbing train of thought, but …. there it is.

THE BROKEN WINDOWS ELECTION YEAR: Charles Lehman points to the double-digit rejection by ultra-liberal San Francisco voters of Soros-favorite prosecutor Chesa Boudin as evidence 2022 is the year of “broken windows” elections.

Recall that community policing recognizes that prosecutorial tolerance of small-time crimes like loitering, littering and public defecation is typically a bellwether for the coming of much worse. Voters, even those by the Bay, get that connection when they see spiraling rates of more serious crimes. And they go to the polls to hold officials like Boudin responsible.

Earlier this year, San Francisco voters also recalled three far-left loons on the school board. Given these early results, November is beginning to have the look of a genuine grassroots revolution that could set progressives back years. But as Glenn reminds, don’t count those chickens just yet.

The moment I began this publication was the moment everything changed for me. (By comparison, we have more than 180,000 people that receive this newsletter. We did not spend $300 million to achieve this.) Or I look at Spotify, and remember they paid the Obamas $25 million in 2019 to make some podcasts, little of which has had any impact. Or Buzzfeed, which is now basically a penny stock, trading at $2.23 a share.

THE ASIAN VOTE IS NOT WOKE: Will Chesa Boudin’s DA Dream Die in Chinatown Today? “The fate of San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin will be determined Tuesday by people like Leanna Louie, one of the 60 Asian Americans who were assaulted in San Francisco in 2021 — up 567 percent from nine victims in 2020. . . . Louie, who is a small-business owner and veteran, began volunteering with a community-run task force to patrol the city’s Chinatown neighborhood when local shop owners began experiencing a large uptake in burglaries and vandalism.”

FRUITS OF A DREADFUL GOVERNMENT: Why Black Americans Are Buying More Guns: The people who bear the brunt of rising violent crime are taking steps to protect themselves.

“The issue we face is one of conscience and common sense.” So said Joe Biden last week in a prime-time plea for more Second Amendment restrictions. The president is right on both counts, just not in the way that he and other gun-control enthusiasts imagine.

Voters have noticed that cities where shootings occur almost daily also have some of the strictest gun laws. Using common sense, they’ve concluded that more gun-control legislation probably isn’t the solution because criminals by definition don’t respect laws. Many of the same people likewise find it unconscionable that elected officials would make it more difficult for law-abiding residents of high-crime neighborhoods to arm themselves for protection. . . .

It’s well known that gun sales have surged in recent years, but less well known is that blacks have led the trend. Retailers in an online survey conducted by the National Shooting Sports Foundation, a trade group, reported that they sold 58% more guns to black customers in the first half of 2020 than a year earlier, the highest increase for any ethnic group. Personal safety tops the list of why people decide to buy a firearm. In a 2021 Gallup survey, 88% of respondents said they own a gun “for protection against crime,” which is up from 67% in 2005.

Americans that they need a gun, yet the political left has spent little time reassessing woke policies that lead to such thinking. Violent crime has been rising. Homicides in major cities have reached levels not seen in three decades. Meanwhile, liberal policy makers treat criminals like victims and police officers like criminals. Antigun police units tasked with keeping illegal weapons off the streets have been disbanded. Felonies have been downgraded to misdemeanors, and misdemeanors go unpunished, which only emboldens miscreants. Low-income minorities feel the brunt of these so-called reforms because they are by far the most likely crime targets.

The same “defund the police” progressives who have spent most of the past decade undermining the ability of law enforcement to combat crime are now using sensational but statistically rare mass-shooting tragedies as a pretense for curtailing the ability of people in vulnerable communities to defend themselves. The president wants to ban “assault weapons,” raise the purchase age to 21, and expand background checks. There’s no evidence that any of this will address the day-in-day-out gun violence that has driven so many Americans to become first-time gun owners.

To be fair, it’s not meant to.

Plus: “The source of the problem is the failure or inability of the government to protect us. Common sense dictates that we do what is necessary to protect ourselves in the meantime. Only a fool or an ideologue could believe that the best response to people who commit crimes with guns is launching a holy war against people who respect gun laws.”

The government is less unable to protect its citizenry than unwilling to. Which is another reason to own guns.

APPEASING THE GREEN LOBBY AT YOUR EXPENSE: Biden Administration Quietly Raised Amount of Ethanol Required in Summer Blend Gasoline from Ten Percent to Fifteen, Three Predictable Problems Will Surface Soon.

“Ethanol is a valuable source of octane in finished gasoline, but it is chemically different than petroleum gasoline and cannot be used in concentrations above 10 percent in small engines — like outboard boat motors, motorcycles, lawnmowers, generators or chain saws — or in any cars made before 2001. Complicating matters further, most cars on the road today still aren’t warrantied to run on gasoline with more than 10 percent ethanol. Retail stations also must have compatible infrastructure in order to sell gasoline with higher ethanol blends.” This issue is known within the industry as “The Blend Wall.”
