WHICH WAY, KEVIN MCCARTHY? Like handing a starving man half a Whopper is one way of describing House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s four-point platform for 2022. But Rachel Bovard’s analysis of the California Republican is much more bracing, including this (emphasis added):

“If you’re sensing shades of elections ranging from 1984 to 2012, you’re not alone. Minus the aberration that was Trump, the Republican Party has been promising the exact same set of goals for my entire lifetime, regardless of what is actually happening in the country. One suspects that a nuclear winter could befall the entire North American continent and Republicans would struggle mightily through the fallout to declare they have the solution to the problem: the reauthorization of the Keystone Pipeline.

“It’s not that these policies are wrong or even misplaced. They’re simply mis-prioritized. Yes, more enforcement at the border, making life better for small businesses, securing American energy independence, and enforcing parental choice are good and absolutely necessary policy goals. But they also represent the absolute baseline expectations that voters should have from an even marginally competent Republican party.”

DESPERATELY SEEKING… HILLARY? Biden’s Epic Collapse Has Democrats Desperately Looking to Hillary Clinton for Salvation. “Is this the same woman who thought she could ignore rural voters and finally get a white working-class outreach operation going many months too late during the 2020 election, which was based in… Brooklyn? She ran twice and lost. It’s the same thing with her. The more time she spends in the spotlight, the more unpopular she becomes. It will happen again if Democrats try to pull a Hillary 2024 move. The lady is just not liked. Stop trying to retcon 2016, fellas. It happened—we won.”

Ask them. To start with use words. After that it might be time to be more creative. Exercise your judgement. Perhaps the ballot box will work. And perhaps the pig will sing.

OLD GUARD GOP’S INSANE STRATEGY ON VOTING RIGHTS REFORM: Democrats claim democracy will die if elections aren’t federalized to keep those racist Republicans from making a repeat of 2020 impossible. Old Guard Republicans, according to Mollie Hemingway of The Federalist, are totally out to lunch on the issue.

“The Washington Post this month reported that at least 69 percent of Republicans are seriously concerned about the 2020 election. Perhaps the worst thing a party could do if it cared about serious political power would be to signal that the issue means so little to them. This pathetic cowardice and incompetent weakness are exactly what Republican voters are sick to death of,” Hemingway writes.

This is yet another illustration of why the GOP Establishment so richly deserves its label as the “stupid party.”

KRUISER’S MORNING BRIEF: ‘Hillary 2024’ Rumors Are Proof Even Dems Can’t Stand Biden. “It’s a big deal that even a couple of Dem insiders are publicly trying to kneecap Biden. If this were happening to any Republican president all of the mainstream media would be talking about a civil war within the party.”

THAT’S BECAUSE THEY’RE STUPID, AND ENDORSED UTTERLY BY PROGRESSIVE POLITICS: How School Closures Made Me Question My Progressive Politics: I’ve never felt more alienated from the liberal Democratic circles I usually call home. “I’m well aware of the stereotypes of white parents choosing the private-school option when the going gets tough at public schools. I told myself that prioritizing being a ‘good leftist’ at the expense of my son’s well-being wasn’t good parenting, but as a red-diaper baby myself, the white guilt dies hard.”

So long as it dies, because it’s butt-stupid.

OUT ON A LIMB: Kevin McCarthy: Biden White House Likes High Gas Prices, ‘Whole Plan All About Green New Deal.’

House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy told Breitbart News that Democrat President Joe Biden’s administration enjoys high gas prices because the Democrats are using that crisis to try to force Americans to accept their radical Green New Deal agenda.

“If you listen to the White House, they say having a high price of gasoline is good, right?” McCarthy said. “Their whole plan is all about the Green New Deal, right? There is a bridge before you ever move from a combustion engine or others. If you have an electric car, you have to charge it. You have to have electricity for it. If you want to buy an electric car, they’re about $50,000.”

McCarthy’s comments came during the latest On The Hill long-form video special, taped in December at an Eastern Market establishment on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC. McCarthy in late November set a new record for the longest floor speech in U.S. House history, defeating a previous record by Speaker Nancy Pelosi, when he made his case against the now-dead Build Back Better multitrillion-dollar Biden agenda bill. During that speech, he noted that he could not afford a Tesla or another electric car because they are too expensive. In the interview, McCarthy expanded on that by noting the Democrats are rewarding the wealthy who can afford electric vehicles and penalizing working class Americans who cannot.

In other words, Obama retreads are following the same playbook as the original Obama administration: “We’re going to keep at it to ensure the American people are paying their fair share for gas,” is the perfect Kinsley Gaffe for an Obama administration retread like Biden:  As Steven Chu, Obama’s then-incoming energy secretary, told the Wall Street Journal in the fall of 2008: “Somehow we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe.”

So is it fair to ask if Biden is on the payroll of Putin? As Walter Russell Mead wrote in 2017:

If Trump were the Manchurian candidate that people keep wanting to believe that he is, here are some of the things he’d be doing:

Limiting fracking as much as he possibly could
Blocking oil and gas pipelines
Opening negotiations for major nuclear arms reductions
Cutting U.S. military spending
Trying to tamp down tensions with Russia’s ally Iran.

“Yep,” Glenn added in late 2019. “You know who did do these things? Obama. You know who supports these things now? Democrats.”

EMORY LAW JOURNAL SCANDAL UPDATE: Prof. Andrew Koppelman (Northwestern) on the Emory Law Journal Controversy. “The editors do not allege falsity or offer any evidence of scholarly dereliction. It’s been claimed that he resisted editing, but the editors did not ask for his claims to be better supported. They demanded the deletion of the entire final third of the article. The editors think that academic work ought not to describe what the scholar takes to be reality if revealing or calling attention to that reality is ‘hurtful’ and ‘divisive.’ That notion, which is increasingly common, attacks the scholarly enterprise at its root.”

Law firms should be reluctant to hire the Emory Law Journal editors involved in this debacle, for poor judgment.

RESIGN! Education Secretary Miguel Cardona under fire for soliciting parents-as-terrorists letter.

A conservative education activist is calling for Miguel Cardona’s job after emails revealed the education secretary solicited the infamous letter from the National School Boards Association calling parents protesting at school board meetings domestic terrorists.

Ian Prior, the executive director of the Fight for Schools PAC, told the Washington Examiner that every political officer involved in colluding with the NSBA should lose their jobs, especially Cardona and Attorney General Merrick Garland.

I agree. Characterizing political opponents, or parents, as “domestic terrorists” is a poisonous abuse of power. It should be a crime, or at the very least a firing offense.
