PRAYING FOR LIFE OCT. 2: Preparations are underway for a prayer gathering at the Supreme Court to pray for the justices as they consider the future of abortion in America. You can bet the Left will be out in force. Will the defenders of life?

#JOURNALISM: “We are told by the powers that be – that approximately 6,000 to 7,000 American citizens were rescued by daring efforts of the U.S. State Department and U.S. military in evacuations from Kabul airport. Okay, fair enough… that’s a good outcome. Happy to hear it; we can debate the other 116,000 at a later time. However, it seems a little odd now that there’s no videos of the survivors of the Afghan crisis arriving at airports. No crowds or families greeting the extracted American residents; no human interest stories and local broadcasted news coverage of relieved Americans, husbands, wives, daughters or sons arriving back in their hometown…. nothing. Six to seven thousand Americans saved from the clutches of the Taliban, and not a single story of those Americans arriving home to the waiting arms of their loving family.”

#METOO: House Dem ‘Concerned’ About Price Tag of Biden’s $3.5 Trillion Budget Plan.

During a Tuesday virtual town hall, Rep. Kurt Schrader said while it was “really nice to see” bipartisan support for a $550 billion infrastructure plan, he is “concerned about the amount of money involved” in the multitrillion-dollar megabill championed by Biden and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.).

“The speaker also is trying to go along with another package the president is interested in on some of the key social issues out there,” Schrader said. “I am concerned about the amount of money involved with that. So far, they’re talking about whether or not they’re going to pay for that.”

Schrader is not the only congressional Democrat to express wariness about the bill’s price tag, a trend that endangers Biden’s economic ambitions. Sen. Joe Manchin (D., W.Va.) told his partymates Wednesday to “hit the pause button” on the legislation, citing “runaway inflation.” One day later, he penned a Wall Street Journal op-ed to detail why he “won’t support spending another $3.5 trillion.”

“Over the past 18 months, we’ve spent more than $5 trillion responding to the coronavirus pandemic,” Manchin wrote. “Now Democratic congressional leaders propose to pass the largest single spending bill in history with no regard to rising inflation, crippling debt, or the inevitability of future crises. Ignoring the fiscal consequences of our policy choices will create a disastrous future for the next generation of Americans.”

Left unsaid: Biden doesn’t have the clout — the combination of love/fear/respect — on Capitol Hill to pass his signature agenda item.

He’s basically a first-term lame duck.

HE HAS PICKED HIS ENEMIES: Joe Biden Threatens to Fight Texas Harder Than He Ever Fought the Taliban.

UPDATE (FROM GLENN): Bridget Phetasy is right. Red states that have been getting a lot of blue-state refugees all need to pass legislation that will discourage immigration.

BOOK REVIEW: I got my book Built from Broken: A Science-Based Guide to Healing Painful Joints, Preventing Injuries, and Rebuilding Your Body in the mail yesterday and read part of it last night. I must say, for the price, it is a large book full of information and clear pictures of exercises that make them fairly easy to replicate. The book came at a good time as I did three yoga classes last week (what was I thinking?) and pulled my back muscles out. For the last two days, I have been limping around and trying to figure out how to get better. The book goes through reasons that you pull muscles and takes a different twist on how to fix them. It gives specific exercises for problem areas and helped me re-think how I was doing some of my stretching. For example, I was using a foam roller between my shoulder blades and the book said to strengthen your lats, roll your forearms going forward on the foam roller instead. I tried it and it really helped. I definitely think the book is helpful and would recommend it if you want some new and perhaps better ideas about how to relieve pain and fine-tune the workouts you already do.

If you ordered or have read the book, let us know what you think. (Bumped)

KRUISER’S MORNING BRIEF: Who Had ‘Dems Hate on Ghost of RBG’ on Their Bingo Cards? “Internecine squabbles abound in political factions, no matter where on the spectrum the group exists. They are, however, more likely to break out the farther left one goes. That’s the price that is paid when all politics is emotion-driven. American leftists have spaz meters that go from asleep-to-screech in approximately .0000000087 nanoseconds after a political battle doesn’t go their way.”

MATT TAIBBI: NPR Trashes Free Speech. A Brief Response. “In an irony only public radio could miss, ‘On the Media’ hosts an hour on the perils of ‘free speech absolutism’ without interviewing a defender of free speech.”

VIA A FRIEND: “It’s becoming clear that Afghanistan didn’t fall, we gave it to them on a silver platter. The question is, who got the kickbacks.”

There was a time when this statement would have seemed absurd. We do not live in that time anymore.
