WHO KNEW DEMINT WAS SUCH A BARD? Former Sen. Jim DeMint usually writes political stuff, but his new “Satan’s Dare” is a thoroughly entertaining and deeply thoughtful fictional treatment of the ultimate questions through the eyes and lives of two guys, Tony and Johnny, who are different breeds, but linked by similar life tragedies. This one might just be a summer surprise for the best-sellers lists.

WHY ARE DEMOCRAT-MONOPOLY CITIES SUCH CESSPITS OF RACISM? Chicago Mayor Lightfoot Only Granting Interviews to ‘Black or Brown Journalists.’  I wonder how Lightfoot’s white wife feels about this. I wonder how the Asian and biracial reporters feel about this.

Also in Chicago: Gun violence in Chicago sharply up from last year as 48 people are shot over the weekend, at least 6 of them fatally.

Chicago’s last Republican mayor left office in 1931.

JOE BIDEN’S RETURN TO CLEAN GOVERNMENT: Ex-FBI Director Gave $100K to Biden Trust, Sought ‘Profitable’ Work With Joe Biden Through Hunter. “Louis Freeh, who directed the Federal Bureau of Investigation from 1993 to 2001, made a $100,000 donation to the trust fund of then-Vice President Joe Biden’s grandchildren in April 2016. In July 2016 and March 2017, Freeh approached Biden’s son Hunter, attempting to do business with Joe Biden, mentioning ‘some very good and profitable matters’ that the former Vice President could ‘enhance.'”

So long as the “big guy” gets his 10%, I’m sure.

MEGAN FOX: We’re in an Abusive Relationship with Our Government. Now What? “With the implementation of COVID restrictions on our formerly free society, we have all been subject to unlawful monitoring of normal behaviors, including what we wear (on our faces), where we can go, who we can socialize with, what entertainment we can have—and they even wanted access to our phones through contact tracing apps. The perpetrators of this crime against us told us it was because the government cares about our health. But according to science, this is not loving behavior, but dangerous abusive control.”

ALLSIDES SURVEY RATES EPOCH TIMES MOST CENTERED: AllSides recently showed a balanced sample of 2,000 people news stories produced by five news organizations but without their brand names, then asked them to read the stories and rate them according to where they would place them on the political spectrum.

The results say something fundamentally important about the current state of American journalism:

  1. Epoch Times – 64.26 percent rated it “Center.”
  2. Associated Press – 53.08 percent.
  3. BBC – 33.29 percent.
  4. New York Times – 16.20 percent
  5. Bloomberg – 14.69 percent.

Roughly 10 percent of the respondents put Epoch either on the Left or Lean Left, while 25 percent said Right or Lean Right. As an Epoch Times congressional correspondent, am I proud of these numbers?

You bet I am because the Epoch Times practices the kind of old-school journalism that was epitomized in something Wes Pruden, my former editor at the Washington Times told me when I moved from the Reagan administration to the newsroom: “Get it first, but first get it right.”

More than 68 percent put the New York Times on the Left or Lean Left. At AP, 36 percent put the wire service at Left or Lean Left. Nearly 65 percent put Bloomberg on the Left or Lean Left. The BBC was placed Left or Lean Left by 45 percent of the respondents.

THIS IS CNN: CUNY professor fondly recalls the time he called Chris Cuomo a ‘massive putz’ and Chris Cuomo threatened him (screenshots).

But that’s Fredo’s modus operandi, isn’t it? “The funniest part of the Cuomo freakout is that if he’d just said ‘get a life, I’m out with my family,’ then people would have sympathized with him. But because he took it to 11 and compared ‘fredo’ to the n-word—and CNN PR doubled down on it—everyone will now call him Fredo.”

GAUNTLET THROWN: How Partisan Facebook ‘Fact-Checkers’ Silence Debate and Punish Those Who Stray From the Narrative. “The worst thing about these witch-hunts-disguised-as-fact-checks is that the fact-checkers almost always win. While we can and do appeal their decisions—which can result in significant declines in traffic and revenue, not to mention the time wasted going back and forth with them, when they bother to respond at all—they always come back with some version of ‘our scientists are right and yours are wrong.’ When they do respond to our appeals, they make ridiculous demands: either retract the article (with a note apologizing for the ‘error’) or rewrite it to say what they want it to say (and throw in an apology while you’re at it). The Ministry of Truth will not be defied—and they won’t settle for sending the article down the memory hole, either. They want everyone who clicks on the article to know you retracted it and that you’re sorry about it.”

Read the whole thing — the situation is worse than most people understand.

It also feels very, very nice to work for a company that’s basically declared war on Facebook’s fact-checkers. Or to be more accurate, to fire back in a war they declared on us years ago.

UPDATE: Word came through PJ Media’s Slack channel that Facebook has already squelched Paula’s article.

GET WOKE, GO BROKE: ‘Woke’ Values Boomerang on Coca-Cola.

A new poll by Rasmussen Reports finds that by a 3–1 margin, respondents oppose major businesses taking a highly visible role in influencing politics. That may explain why Rasmussen found that 37 percent of Americans are less likely to buy Coca-Cola products in the wake of all these headlines.

Last month, Senator Rand Paul and former president Donald Trump called for a boycott of Coca-Cola products over its role in fighting a new Georgia election-integrity bill. Legal groups denounced Bradley Gayton, Coca-Cola’s general counsel and an architect of its “woke” strategy, for ordering at least 30 percent of the company’s outside legal billings go to “diverse attorneys, and of such amounts at least half will be from Black attorneys.”

The headaches proved to be too much. As Dan McLaughlin reported on NRO last month, Coca-Cola was conspicuously absent from a list of companies that had met to discuss sanctions against Georgia. “It’s time to find common ground,” the company said in a statement. “In the end, we all want the same thing — free and fair elections.” Within days, it was announced that Gayton was leaving his post to become a “strategic consultant.” His replacement said the firm was “taking a pause” on controversial diversity initiatives.

ANGELO CODEVILLA: Regime vs. Regime.

The attempt of America’s ruling class to convict 455 persons of “armed insurrection”—i.e. of waging war against the United States, a species of treason—for protesting insufficient scrutiny of the 2020 election on January 6 in the Capitol, while at the same time it excuses and even cheers the burning and looting of courthouses, police stations, and downtowns all over America, is not the exercise of a “double standard.”

The people in and out of government who do this are not corrupt. Instead, acting as part of the regime—the oligarchy—they are replacing the American republic and waging war to crush its remains.

The sooner Americans realize that we are being governed by people at war with our Constitution and contemptuous of ourselves, the sooner those people may be treated as the enemies they are.

Needless to say, read the whole thing.
