GET OUT OF MY NIGHTMARES, GET AWAY FROM MY CAR: Biden’s ‘Infrastructure’ Bill Contains Backdoor ‘Kill Switch’ For Cars.

As has become standard for legislative mandates passed by Congress, this measure is disturbingly short on details. What we do know is that the “safety” device must “passively monitor the performance of a driver of a motor vehicle to accurately identify whether that driver may be impaired.”

Everything about this mandatory measure should set off red flares.

First, use of the word “passively” suggests the system will always be on and constantly monitoring the vehicle. Secondly, the system must connect to the vehicle’s operational controls, so as to disable the vehicle either before driving or during, when impairment is detected. Thirdly, it will be an “open” system, or at least one with a backdoor, meaning authorized (or unauthorized) third-parties can remotely access the system’s data at any time.

What could possibly go wrong?

I DIDN’T REALIZE THE RAPTOR ISSUES WERE SERIOUS. APPARENTLY NEITHER DID ELON MUSK UNTIL RECENTLY: Elon Musk tells SpaceX employees that Starship engine crisis is creating a ‘risk of bankruptcy.’ “Musk’s email to SpaceX employees provides more context to the significance of the departure of former Vice President of Propulsion Will Heltsley earlier this month. Heltsley had been taken off Raptor development before he left, CNBC reported, with Musk noting in his email that the company’s leadership has been digging into the program’s problems since then – and discovering the circumstances ‘to be far more severe’ than Musk previously thought.”

This isn’t good. The Raptor is a very advanced engine and teething problems are inevitable, but it’s an engine that must be mass-produced, and reliable, to serve its purposes.

UPDATE: Much more here.

HE GETS ALL THE RESPECT HE DESERVES: Hillary Thinks Americans Don’t ‘Really Appreciate’ Joe Biden. “Why don’t we appreciate how much Papa Joe has done for us? It’s because of media outlets that don’t parrot The Narrative™ that the left wants to feed us, of course.”

She must be deep into the chardonnay again.

TRUE: A Shadow War in Space is Heating Up Fast.

When Russia blows up a satellite in space with a missile (as it did this month), or when China tests a new hypersonic missile (as it did last month), the ongoing arms race in space leaps into the news. But in between these “Sputnik”-like moments, outside the public’s view, the United States and its adversaries are battling in space every day.

While Washington officials and experts warn of the risks of an arms race in space, the United States’ adversaries are constantly conducting operations against U.S. satellites that skirt the line between intelligence operations and acts of war. The pace of conflict is intensifying, according to a top Space Force general, who told me that China could overtake the United States to become the number one power in space by the end of the decade.

“The threats are really growing and expanding every single day. And it’s really an evolution of activity that’s been happening for a long time,” Gen. David Thompson, the Space Force’s first vice chief of space operations, told me in an interview on the sidelines of the recent Halifax International Security Forum. “We’re really at a point now where there’s a whole host of ways that our space systems can be threatened.”

Right now, Space Force is dealing with what Thompson calls “reversible attacks” on U.S. government satellites (meaning attacks that don’t permanently damage the satellites) “every single day.” Both China and Russia are regularly attacking U.S. satellites with non-kinetic means, including lasers, radio frequency jammers and cyber attacks, he said.

Thompson repeatedly declined to comment on whether China or Russia has attacked a U.S. military satellite in a way that did permanent or significant damage, telling me that would be classified if it had happened. The Chinese military is quickly deploying ground-based systems for doing battle in space, such as lasers that can damage nosy U.S. intelligence community satellites, which could be considered an act of war.

“The Chinese are actually well ahead [of Russia],” Thompson said. “They’re fielding operational systems at an incredible rate.”

Both the Russians and the Chinese are working on satellites that can attack other satellites, he said. For some time now there have been reports that China was developing a satellite that could claw another satellite or grab one with a robotic arm or a grappling hook. The Chinese government has several reasons to want to disable U.S. satellites, which have been useful in revealing concentration camps built to intern Uyghur Muslims and new Chinese nuclear missile silo fields.

In 2019, Russia deployed a small satellite into an orbit so close to a U.S. “national security satellite” that the U.S. government didn’t know whether it was attacking or not, Thompson said. Then, the Russian satellite backed away and conducted a weapons test. It released a small target and then shot it with a projectile.

“It maneuvered close, it maneuvered dangerously, it maneuvered threateningly so that they were coming close enough that there was a concern of collision,” he said. “So clearly, the Russians were sending us a message.”

Well, don’t worry. JCS Chair Gen. Milli Vanilli is on things.

LET THEM EAT LITHIUM: Buttigieg says if you hate soaring fuel costs and shortages, just wait until you buy an EV! “Let them eat electrons, says Pete Buttigieg, representing the supposed party of the working class. In an MSNBC interview yesterday, the occasional Secretary of Transportation told Americans that relief from high fuel prices were on the way — not by lowering fuel prices through more robust American production, however. Instead, Buttigieg asked everyone to get giddy in anticipation of buying hugely expensive electric vehicles and, um … not ask any questions about how much it will cost to charge them.”

NEWS YOU CAN USE? How To Talk Like An EU Baizuocrat:

The pod people who come up with this garbage must be repudiated at every opportunity. They are trying to change the meaning of … well, of reality, by the use of language. The thing is, they really can do a hell of a lot of damage by requiring people to do this, and making mastering the jargon the sine qua non of working for the EU bureaucracy (and eventually for woke capitalist entities). If I were European, I would vote populist, simply to vote for common sense and basic reality. If I had to work for the EC, I would have to keep my code-switching skills up so that I didn’t lose touch with humanity.

Soon enough, there won’t be any Europeans left who remember the old way of speaking and writing, only the falsified one that destroys the concepts of family, church, and nation.

“It’s a beautiful thing, the destruction of words.”

THEY’LL KEEP TRYING OUT NEW LIES IN THE HOPE OF FINDING ONE THAT WORKS: The New York Times’ Jake Silverstein concocts “a new origin story” for the 1619 Project.

Silverstein has staked his reputation on the 1619 Project. This has gone badly for him. His name will forever be associated with the secretive manner through which the project invented its false and error-ridden historical interpretation, as well as the orchestration of the cover-up that has followed.

Specifically, Silverstein bears responsibility for the exclusion of leading scholars of American history—who would have objected to the 1619 Project’s central historical claims—and the intentional disregarding of objections made by the project’s own handpicked “fact-checkers.” Silverstein penned the devious reply to leading historians who pointed to the project’s errors. He then organized surreptitious changes to the already published 1619 Project, and, when exposed, claimed that it had all been a matter of word choice.

Silverstein’s 8,250-word essay is just the latest in this long line of underhanded journalism and bogus history. Once again, he fails to deal with any of the substantive historical criticism of the 1619 Project—in relationship to the origins of slavery, the nature of the American Revolution, the emergence of capitalism and the interracial character of past struggles for equality.

Instead of addressing any of this, and in keeping with the modus operandi of the 1619 Project, Silverstein’s essay piles new layers of falsification on old. If the original 1619 Project falsified American history, Silverstein’s latest essay falsifies the history of American history-writing—and it openly embraces a historical method that privileges “narrative” over “actual fact.”

The 1619 Project is the kind of false history that a conqueror would impose on a conquered nation to break its will.

KRUISER’S MORNING BRIEF: Mask/Vax Mandate False Narrative Takes Another Florida Hit. “You read that correctly, sports fans: Florida has the lowest per capita infection rate, and it is happening in a state where the governor has decided to let the citizens live like free Americans.”

AID AND COMFORT: Biden Enlists Nuclear Disarmament Proponents To Study ICBM Alternatives: Pentagon contract pushes reduction in ICBMs as China, Russia modernize and increase missile capabilities.

So is it fair to ask if Biden is on the payroll of Putin? As Walter Russell Mead wrote in 2017:

If Trump were the Manchurian candidate that people keep wanting to believe that he is, here are some of the things he’d be doing:

Limiting fracking as much as he possibly could
Blocking oil and gas pipelines
Opening negotiations for major nuclear arms reductions
Cutting U.S. military spending
Trying to tamp down tensions with Russia’s ally Iran.

“Yep,” I added in late 2019. “You know who did do these things? Obama. You know who supports these things now? Democrats.”

And you know who’s doing them now? Biden. The only real question is, for Xi or Putin? Why not both, as the girl in the taco commercial says.

SHOCKER: NYT Throws Cold Water on Biden’s Massive Infrastructure Bill. “Biden’s $1.2 trillion bill ‘carries enormous risks that the projects will face the same kind of cost, schedule and technical problems that have hobbled ambitious efforts from New York to Seattle, delaying benefits to the public and driving up the price tag that taxpayers ultimately will bear.'”

KAROL MARKOWICZ: It’s not just ‘stuff’ — the goods people work hard for matter, despite left lunacy.

We’re in a strange time in which we’re lectured we’re not supposed to care about “stuff.” Material goods shouldn’t matter, we’re told by people who have far more material goods than most people.

Last month, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki referred to the “tragedy of the treadmill that’s delayed” when talking about the supply-chain crisis. Psaki also dismissed concerns about Christmas presents arriving on time. Psaki earns $180,000 a year in her role.

White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain approvingly retweeted someone who called economic problems like inflation “high-class problems.” He too makes $180,000. It’s very easy to dismiss economic problems that affect people all over the country when you’re making more than three times the salary of the average worker.

And last year, as riots raged in the wake of George Floyd’s killing, we heard a lot that property damage doesn’t really matter. So what if someone’s business is destroyed? They’ll survive. But that dismissal of property crime has led directly to the shoplifting sprees we’re seeing in cities like San Francisco. If stuff doesn’t matter, people can just take it. . . .

My great-grandfather owned a bakery in the Soviet Union. In the 1930s, the government outlawed private businesses, and his bakery no longer belonged to him. It’s just a storefront, it’s just your life’s work. It’s just what he used to support his family until it was no longer allowed.

He was seized, too, sent to a gulag far away. His wife saw him once, after she made the arduous trek. His four kids, never again. It was just a business, but its destruction consumed a family.

That’s how the left operates, whenever it’s allowed to. Don’t allow it to.
