HERO: ‘Give them something to hold on to’: Man travels to Kentucky with cooker to feed tornado victims.

“I just came down here, trying to feed the people,” Finch said. “Everybody’s talking about they’re sending up prayers and, you know, their well wishes and everything. You know, folks can’t eat no prayer. We gotta put something in their stomach. Give them something to hold on to.”

Finch brought a cooker and together he and the Moss-Leavell family are operating out of their food truck that miraculously still stands in the middle of destruction.

“Everything around them got hit, but the food truck is still standing,” Moss-Leavell said.

Look for the helpers.

THE ESTABLISHMENT PROTECTS ITS TOOLS: DC Bar Restores Convicted FBI Russiagate Forger to ‘Good Standing’ Amid Irregularities and Leniency.

A former senior FBI lawyer who falsified a surveillance document in the Trump-Russia investigation has been restored as a member in “good standing” by the District of Columbia Bar Association even though he has yet to finish serving out his probation as a convicted felon, according to disciplinary records obtained by RealClearInvestigations.

The move is the latest in a series of exceptions the bar has made for Kevin Clinesmith, who pleaded guilty in August 2020 to doctoring an email used to justify a surveillance warrant targeting former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page.

Clinesmith was sentenced to 12 months probation last January. But the D.C. Bar did not seek his disbarment, as is customary after lawyers are convicted of serious crimes involving the administration of justice. In this case, it did not even initiate disciplinary proceedings against him until February of this year — five months after he pleaded guilty and four days after RealClearInvestigations first reported he had not been disciplined. After the negative publicity, the bar temporarily suspended Clinesmith pending a review and hearing. Then in September, the court that oversees the bar and imposes sanctions agreed with its recommendation to let Clinesmith off suspension with time served; the bar, in turn, restored his status to “active member” in “good standing.”

Before quietly making that decision, however, records indicate the bar did not check with his probation officer to see if he had violated the terms of his sentence or if he had completed the community service requirement of volunteering 400 hours.

IT USUALLY IS: That Dana Milbank column is even dumber than you think.

Milbank claims journalists have been harder on President Joe Biden in the first year of his presidency than they were on former President Donald Trump in his last.

To support his position, he points to a report prepared by the analytical firm FiscalNote, whose “artificial intelligence” reviewed some 200,000 news articles to determine “sentiment” based on variables including adjective placement.

The group’s findings, which supposedly show the press have been tougher on Biden, confirm the Washington Post columnist’s worst fears: “My colleagues in the media are serving as accessories to the murder of democracy.”

His thesis is obvious bunk — as if a computer could ever hope to gauge “sentiment” accurately depending on adjective placement. However, after some additional digging, most notably by Don’t Walk, Run! Productions, which did the lion’s share of assessing FiscalNote’s data, it turns out Milbank’s theory is even flimsier than initially suspected.

Put simply, the research upon which his entire thesis rests, the supposed proof of the press’s collective failure to defend our big, wet Core Democracy™, is utter trash.

Read the whole thing.

I’d just add that for Milbank, Cillizza, et al., the important thing is to establish the lefty meme regardless of facts, so that they can be endlessly repeated on social media platforms that won’t fact-check them.

EVERYTHING IS GOING SWIMMINGLY: Crime fear grips US, 68% say it’s getting worse. “Nearly 9 in 10 voters are worried about the crime surge across the nation, and almost 70% fear that there is no end in sight. In the latest problem facing Democrats and President Joe Biden, 89% of likely voters told Rasmussen Reports that they are concerned about the crime wave. That is 10 points higher than in July.”

You can’t expect effective crime control from a party that believes that every cop is a criminal, and all the sinners saints. To be honest, I think they’re in need of some restraint.
