TRUMP SAVES AMERICA FROM RACE WAR. Thinking about last night’s Republican Convention today at the gym, I realized that Trump isn’t just running for re-election: The story he’s telling at the RNC is also about saving America from the race war that the left is trying to foment. The left wants it to be black vs. white, immigrant vs. native, etc. Trump’s making clear that it’s about people who are constructive, productive, and generally happy, vs. people who are destructive, parasitic, and generally miserable, and that that difference transcends things like race. This is a huge, underappreciated — and very traditionally American — message. By promoting it at this crucial time, Trump may very well be saving America.

(Bumped, from Wednesday, because it’s worth stressing.)

IT’S ALMOST LIKE THESE RIOTERS DON’T KNOW OR CARE MUCH ABOUT WHAT THEY’RE SUPPOSEDLY RIOTING OVER: Protesters Tell Rand Paul, Who Wrote the Justice for Breonna Taylor Act, To Say Breonna Taylor’s Name. “Recall that Paul is no stranger to physical violence: He was brutally attacked by his next-door-neighbor in 2017, suffering injuries to his ribs and lungs. He was also present at the 2017 Congressional baseball game shooting. . . . It would be wrong to physically intimidate the Pauls in any case. But the crowd also failed to recognize that their alleged foe is one of the most consistent voices for criminal justice reform in the U.S. Senate. To borrow a favorite phrase of the woke activist crowd: Educate yourself, street protesters.”

They’re uneducated, and they’re not after justice, but rather catharsis, power, and a sense of unearned significance.

I THINK THAT WILFULLY REFUSING TO CONTROL DISORDER IS A CIVIL RIGHTS VIOLATION — ESPECIALLY WHEN THAT REFUSAL IS BASED ON RACE, AS IT WAS HERE: Father of man killed inside Seattle’s CHOP zone files $3 billion in claims against city, county, state. It’s true that there’s no right of police protection on the part of any individual person, but a wholesale refusal to police — and again, based on racial considerations — is different. But here’s why this is likely to wind up in settlement, rather than at trial: “Oshan said that he and his client hopes that the discovery process will also uncover who was to blame.”

DON’T GET COCKY, KIDS: Some smart advice from a smart friend on Facebook:

The future of the country will be decided in the next 60 days.

According to Real Clear Politics aggregation of polls, if the election were held today Biden would win the presidency and Democrats would win control of the U.S. Senate, to go along with their majority in the House of Representatives.

Don’t get cocky and dismiss the polls – I don’t care what happened in 2016.

I am a Virginian and never in a million years would’ve imagined my state would be where it is today. Democrats control us here now and they’re pushing their radical policies through at warp speed.

Biden can win. We can also lose the senate. That means a very real possibility of a democrat WH, House, and Senate in a matter of months.

You help no one if you continue thinking “Trump will win in a landslide.” Your overconfidence is as dangerous to this nation’s future as the leftist chaos we are seeing is.

Work. Work like your family’s life depends on it for the next 10 weeks.

Yep. Because it does.

VODKAPUNDIT PRESENTS YOUR DAILY INSANITY WRAP: Tapper Lies, No One Dies.

Insanity Wrap needs to know: Do you remember back when Jake Tapper wasn’t a scaremongering hack for the Dems?

Answer: Yeah, we don’t either. Was that even a thing?

Before we get to the sordid details, a quick preview of today’s extra-slippery Wrap.

• Kamala Harris lets the mask slip

• Joe Biden let his entire campaign slip

• BLM gave decency the slip

And so much more at the link, you’d have to be crazy to miss it.

MORE MONEY FOR BIG LABOR: That’s what California’s assault on Uber, Lyft and the gig economy is all about, forcing independent contractors to unionize.

KRUISER’S MORNING BRIEF: RNC Night 4—Trump Punches Hard, Gets First Round Knockout.

The speech was the biggest surprise of this presidency for me thus far, and it has been filled with surprises.

It was, in two words, extremely presidential. The media is lying about it already, of course, claiming that it was a dark speech that attacked Biden. It’s as if they are unaware that one of the primary tactics in any election is for the candidates to say unflattering things about one another. They’re being absolute children and it’s becoming more tedious than ever.

While he did tout his accomplishments — another normal campaign tactic which the press is pretending Trump invented — he didn’t do it with the signature Trump bombast. He took everything down a notch.

There were plenty of barbs aimed at all the right people, but he took a lot off of his fastball and struck them out with a change-up.

Like great pitchers do.

CHINA WAR SCENARIOS: Versus the U.S., Versus India, China Versus China, and a little more.

Let’s hope the scenarios remain fiction — except China Versus China (the next Chinese revolution).

In July, senior government officials in Taiwan and the U.S. warned that communist China was aggressively threatening Taiwan’s independence. U.S. Secretary of Defense Mark Esper contended Beijing had taken its intimidation “to a new level.”…”The official warnings spurred several recent articles that examine a U.S-China war sparked by a Beijing invasion of Taiwan. Some are quite dire…”

MARINE DOWN-UNDER LAUNCHING A PUMA: Hey, the title may be weird but it’s accurate. A U.S. Marine launches an RQ-20B Puma small unmanned aircraft system at Mount Bundey Training Area, Australia. Photo taken Aug. 18.

JAMES LILEKS ON MINNEAPOLIS: “I will note that he said he saw the residents of the apartment building come out in the morning to walk their dogs, and they had to pick them up so the dogs’ paws wouldn’t get cut by the glass. He said the residents came out with their own small brooms and dustpans and helped tidy up…So the good outnumber the bad, as we knew; and the good have lost all patience with the bad, as you might suspect. Short-term, though — who’s going to invest down here? Who’s going to come downtown to eat at a restaurant, when you don’t know what will happen outside? Who’ll walk to the parking ramp after dark when someone was just shot there? Who’ll want to come back to their office when it’s safer to be at home?”

THEY NEVER OBJECT TO VIOLENCE WHEN IT’S THEIR PEOPLE DOING IT: Seen on Facebook: “Liberals are now upset about ‘armed vigilantism’ but still not upset about riots and looting.”

I’ve been warning for a while that the breakdown of law and order won’t go as they hope. Ultimately, the police are there to protect criminals from the populace, not the other way around. Get rid of the police, and armed vigilantism is what you’ll get. And what you’ll deserve.

UPDATE: Some people are figuring it out, as this article in The Atlantic illustrates: The Violence Could Get Much Worse: Unless police and political leaders begin to crack down on the armed vigilantes monitoring protests, more bloodshed could soon follow the killings in Kenosha.
