JONATHAN TURLEY: Joe Biden fuels election conspiracy theory while the media keeps quiet.

Biden left little doubt of Trump’s anti-democratic plan: “Mark my words: I think he is gonna try to kick back the election somehow, come up with some rationale why it can’t be held.” It is just the type of thing that a crazed guy in a tightly buttoned raincoat whispers to you on the subway. But Biden was not done. If you were on a recent online fundraiser, it probably felt like you could not change your seat as Biden grew uncomfortably close and went on to explain one of the key signs that revealed the conspiracy to him: the United States Postal Service.

Biden alleged that the Trump administration is pressuring the Postal Service to make changes in its operations as a condition for federal pandemic relief. Get it? As Biden explained, “Imagine threatening not to fund the post office. Now what in God’s name is that about? Other than trying to let the word out that he’s going to do all he can to make it very hard for people to vote. That is the only way he thinks he can possibly win.” Well, the other way would be that his opponent flees to the desert to live in a bunker and protect his mail and “precious bodily fluids.”

Just think of the media as Democratic Party operatives with bylines, and their silence makes perfect sense. Evergreen:

SINGAPORE: “Singapore is rapidly building bed space for coronavirus patients in cavernous exhibition halls and other temporary facilities as it faces a surge in cases, mainly among its large community of low-paid migrant workers. The tiny city-state of 5.7 million people has over 12,000 confirmed infections of the virus that causes COVID-19, one of the most in Asia, due to outbreaks in cramped dormitories housing over 300,000 mainly South Asian workers.”

WEIRD, YOU’D NEVER KNOW THIS FROM FOLLOWING THE NEWS MEDIA: Swing voters approve of Trump’s virus effort, 75% want end of China reliance.

The nation’s focus during the coronavirus on its economic reliance on China has prompted a big majority of swing state voters to back a “Made in the USA” agenda as they turn from worrying about their health to switching the economy back on, according to a new survey.

Some 75% told Heritage Action for America’s new Project 2020 that they want manufacturing returned to America, as President Trump has often called for. Said the group, swing voters “support bringing manufacturing back home to end our reliance on Chinese and foreign factories for essential supplies such as masks and medication.”

In the survey of over 8,000 swing and “persuadable” voters in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, North Carolina, and Iowa provided to Secrets this morning, 63% said that they approve of Trump’s handling of the crisis. Just 21% disapproved.

And they appear to support his gradual shift from focusing on fighting the virus to also reopening the economy, as well as a reliance more on businesses than Washington to lead the way.

Rachel Maddow says he’s toast.

NEO: Why does Joe Biden want to be president? (And why did Trump want to be president?)

I assume that at any point along the way, Biden could have articulated a convincing reason why he – of all the mediocre career politicians in the US – should become president. But I don’t think that reason ever would have been convincing. It certainly wasn’t convincing to the American public each time he ran:

Until Saturday’s [February 29, 2020] South Carolina primary, Biden had won zero presidential nominating contests across three campaigns and 32 years.

But now he’s the last man standing. At least for the moment.

[ADDENDUM: And remember Ted Kennedy?]

It’s the one question that a person running for the presidency has to be prepared for. Why doesn’t Joe have the equivalent of an elevator speech to pitch what makes him uniquely qualified?

UPDATE: Stacy Abrams is knocking it out of park explaining why she wants to be veep — at least when compared to Biden explaining why he wants to be president.

JOEL KOTKIN: California’s Post-Corona Challenges: The Golden State faces some difficult choices ahead. “The pressure on California’s government resources is made much worse by a bifurcated economy that produces a disproportionate amount of poorly paid jobs. As manufacturing and middle-management jobs have fled the state, notes new research from Chapman University’s Marshall Toplansky, the vast majority of all new jobs—some 80 percent—pay less than the median income, and roughly half of those pay under $40,000 annually, virtually a poverty income in the expensive coastal areas. Critically, California has been among the worst states in producing middle-income jobs, while rivals such as Utah, Texas, Arizona, Nevada, and Washington have boosted these kinds of positions at five to ten times California’s rate.”

We shouldn’t bail out California. But if we do, it should be conditioned on the red parts splitting off and forming their own separate state. Likewise Illinois and New York State.
