CLIMATE CHANGE FAIL: Netflix Series Accused of Making Fake Claims About Walrus Deaths. “But whereas the Siberian Times and Gizmodo website, which also reported on the 2017 incident, were both quite clear that the walruses were driven over the cliffs by polar bears, Netflix makes no mention of their presence. Similarly, there is no mention of the fact that walrus haulouts are entirely normal. Instead, Attenborough tells his viewers that climate change is forcing the walruses on shore, where their poor eyesight leads them to plunge over the cliffs.”

When you’re less honest than Gizmodo and the Siberian Times. . . .

OPEN THREAD: What do you have for me?

THIS ISN’T A CRIME, AND IT’S PROTECTED BY THE FIRST AMENDMENT: Perrysburg High School student arrested for Twitter account designed to degrade females.

An arrest has been made after a Twitter account that degraded Perrysburg High School girls was investigated by the Perrysburg Police Department.

18-year-old Mehros Nassersharifi was charged with telecommunications harassment by the PPD.

The account, @GirlsRanked, has had most of its posts deleted, but its design was list the “hottest girls” at Perrysburg.

The district says it’s glad more than 100 students reported the account and the student could face expulsion.

Nassersharifi has been issued a summons to appear in court.

Ranking women isn’t a crime, and judging by his name it appears there may be anti-immigrant sentiment involved, too. I wonder if the ACLU of Ohio will help him.

HARSH, BUT FAIR:

LOL, MAX BOOT:

Max, it was Bill Clinton who was impeached.

SAW RIC GRENELL ON FOX A FEW MINUTES AGO, calling Pete Buttigieg’s attacks on Mike Pence a “hate hoax.” Well said.

OUR SOURCE WAS THE NEW YORK TIMES: A Priest Saved ‘The Body of Christ’ From Notre Dame, and NY Times Thought He Meant a Statue.

Hooooo boy. I figured this was common knowledge, but Christians do this thing once a week where, as one modern-day saint put it, we drink our little wine and eat our little cracker. We call the bread the “Body of Christ” and the wine the “Blood of Christ,” a ceremony that dates back to the example Jesus himself set the night before he was crucified. Catholics in particular assign more importance to communion than most Protestants do, teaching that the bread becomes the literal body of Jesus Christ.

There’s the possibility of some sort of translation error, but the Times reporter in question appears to be fluent in French. No, something was lost in translation alright, but I suspect that it was just a case of good-old fashioned religious illiteracy. The guy assigned to report on the biggest religion story of the day was really that ignorant of one of the most important ceremonies in the dominant religion on both sides of the Atlantic.

The New York Times’ layers and layers of fact checkers and editors have a long history of inexcusable gaffes when it comes to reporting on religious issues.

UPDATE (FROM GLENN): Flashback: The Associated Press Thinks Jews In Mourning ‘Sit And Shiver.’

ROGER KIMBALL: THE BARR IS RAISED. Many will be furious at the Mueller report’s findings. That’s a big problem for America:

But here is the existential issue that the report confronts us with. William Barr observed at one point that ‘all Americans can and should be grateful to have [the president’s innocence] confirmed.’ And yet many people, far from being grateful, will be enraged. And that is a huge problem for the Republic.

What has happened over the past two-plus years is a fundamental attack on the legitimacy of our democratic republic. Tactical partisan maneuvering has overwhelmed the institution of presidential elections. Note that this is a one-party party. It probably started in earnest with the election of George W. Bush in 2000. Al Gore withdrew his concession and put the country through months on legal wrangling. Republicans were unhappy when Barack Obama was elected in 2008 and again in 2012. But there was no question of his legitimacy. But when Donald Trump won in 2016, the sort of antidemocratic forces that beset George Bush had mutated from an angry squad of activists into an army of deniers.

SETH BARRETT TILLMAN: “I think Professor BBB believes the EEC/EU has kept the peace (or helped to do so) in Europe. Some believe it was NATO. Maybe it was Nuremberg and its executions? It is a question I don’t claim to know the answer to. But I would be hesitant to say the Allied authorities, judges, and prosecutors at the IMTs were wrong based on my personal experience as a lawyer (and citizen) during peacetime in the United States.”
