CASTING PEARLS OF WISDOM BEFORE INTELLECTUAL SWINE:

Though in all fairness, Jeong isn’t especially intellectual. Just the New York Times’ house bigot. Well, one of the New York Times’ house bigots.

SUCKING IN THE ‘70s:

● “Joe Biden Viewed Gays in Government as ‘Security Risks.’ 1973 comment came as gay rights activists pushed to reverse ban against holding gov’t jobs.”

Joe Biden embraced segregation in 1975, claiming it was a matter of ‘black pride.’

● “In 1975 the Senate, which included freshman Democratic Delaware Sen. Joe Biden, unanimously approved the reinstatement of General Robert E. Lee’s citizenship to the U.S.”

Jim Geraghty asks, “Is Joe Biden the Next Jeb Bush? Or the Next Hillary Clinton?,” adding, “Like Hillary, Biden has a habit of ignoring or hand-waving away his past stances when they’re inconvenient.”

BLOOMBERG CELEBRATING DIVERSITY BY HIRING VULCAN-AMERICAN JOURNALISTS:

As Lt. Saavik once said, “Humor. It is a difficult concept.” (Note the ratio on this tweet.) “More Cowbell,”  from April of 2000, remains simply the funniest, most beloved sketch of the post-Phil Hartman-era Saturday Night Live, which is why, not coincidentally, it’s the most universally known sketch of the post-Hartman era. That was the last time SNL was a widely watched show by both sides of the aisle. In the late 1970s, the Coneheads, the “Wild and Crazy Guys,” and “I’m Chevy Chase and you’re not” were all universally known routines. Only the Cowbell sketch has achieved that level of cultural cachet.

Fortunately, film critic William Bibbiani has come to Smith’s rescue: “I never, in my wildest dreams, thought I would have to explain the @nbcsnl ‘Cowbell’ sketch to another human being, but okay, here we go….First: Yes, there’s a joke, and no, it’s not watching other people pretend they get it. They actually get it. You’re the one who’s lost.”

Read the whole thing, which a younger, funnier Lorne Michaels would have been in complete agreement with for understanding the rules of comedy.

In addition to everything that Bibbiani wrote, the “Cowbell” sketch was also a pitch-perfect send-up of VH1’s “Behind the Music” series geared towards boomer nostalgia,  a series then still relatively new and fresh. (Complete with the invariable formula: band gets together, band reaches stardom, individual band members do drugs, squabble and quit, band breaks up, band triumphantly reunites to tour hockey arenas in the 1990s.)

I DUNNO, ONCE HE’S PAID OBEISANCE TO ALL THE WOKE LEFTY INTEREST GROUPS WILL THAT STILL BE TRUE? Biden threatens to eat into Trump’s base of men, senior, white voters.

Newly minted 2020 presidential candidate Joe Biden is already starting to show that he is unique among the 20 Democratic White House hopefuls by being able to attract President Trump’s base of voters who are older, male, and white, according to a battleground state poll.

A Zogby Analytics survey of likely voters in Wisconsin, which Trump won in a surprise in 2016, showed that Biden would easily beat the president, 50%-40%, by eating into the Republican’s base.

But the president has strengthened his position with suburban women in the state who believe he is the best on two issues, growing the economy and keeping America safe, it said.

Well, Trump has a track record now. And so does Biden, once people remind voters of it.

NEW EUROPE: The West can learn a lot from Hungary’s pro-family policies. “Many liberal democracies are facing a social crisis today because their governments pursued policies which undermined the family. But since 2010, one country has seen marriage rates increase by a whopping 43 per cent with their divorce rate dropping by 22.5 per cent. Unsurprisingly, with the increase in marriage, 33 per cent fewer women are having abortions today than they were eight years ago. Likewise the national birth rate is currently at its highest in 20 years.”

Plus: “So if we had always taken the opposition’s opinion into account, Hungary would now be on the brink of collapse. There wouldn’t be such a comprehensive family-support system, a family-friendly tax system, a housing program, 800,000 new jobs, and many opportunities to create a balance between life and work. The socialists have driven our country into deep crisis before, and they would do it again. They’re only interested in grabbing power again; to achieve this goal, they’ve even joined forces with the Hungarian far right.”

Also: “The new law which comes into effect July 1 has a new set of pro-family incentives such as a 3,000 euro mortgage reduction for a second child, and a 12,000 euro reduction for a third. Effective in 2020, mothers with 4 or more children will enjoy a lifetime personal tax exemption. Katalin Novak says that socialist opposition to pro-family policies remains entrenched but since they are more interested in power than in proposals that make for stronger families, she believes such opposition will grow weaker.”

PENETRATION: Former State Department Official Spied for China Since 2007.

China’s Ministry of State Security successfully obtained State Department internal documents from an embassy office manager who was paid in cash and gifts, according to court documents in the case of Candace Claiborne, a spy for China since 2007.

Claiborne, 62, a former State Department office manager posted to both Beijing and Shanghai, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to a single conspiracy charge of defrauding the government by lying to federal agents about extensive contacts with two MSS intelligence officers.

“Candace Marie Claiborne traded her integrity and non-public information of the United States government in exchange for cash and other gifts from foreign agents she knew worked for the Chinese intelligence service,” said Assistant Attorney General John C. Demers. “She withheld information and lied repeatedly about these contacts.”

J. CHRISTIAN ADAMS: SENATOR KENNEDY COLLUDED WITH MOSCOW, AND CNN DOESN’T CARE. “Give [CNN] credit. It is the first time Democrats have cared about Russian influence in American elections since 1917. If CNN actually wanted a real story of direct collusion between a presidential hopeful and Moscow, it could look at the 1984 election. Let’s first set the world stage.”
