OBAMA’S DELUSIONS AFFECTED MOST: Iran Threatens to Stop Complying With Parts of Nuclear Deal it Repeatedly Violated.
SEX & SOFT DRINKS & ROCK’N’ROLL: A former Netflix creative director just got $1.6 million from big names in tech for Liquid Death, which is water in a tallboy can. “Cessario’s background playing in punk and heavy-metal bands influenced Liquid Death’s branding, which speaks to the ‘extreme’ straight-edge punk crowd that abstains from alcohol and drugs.”
Although these days I wouldn’t be too sure about the sex part.
CNN’S CHRIS CUOMO ACCUSES RICK SANTORUM OF ‘LYING’ ON ABORTION, VIOLATING HIS FAITH:
Complaining that “[y]ou guys go too far when you pervert the facts,” he cited President Trump raising concerns about babies being allowed to die after birth, and complained: “You know that’s BS — it divides people.”
After Santorum injected, “The governor of Virginia said it,” Cuomo shot back: “Nobody said it — it’s not the law anywhere in this country. It’s homicide. One person said something stupid, and you want to make it something you can use for advantage. That doesn’t help your cause.”
Cuomo then suggested Catholic priests would have a problem with Santorum’s alleged dishonesty as he added: “It’s certainly not square with your religion — I’ll tell you that. Go ask a priest if he’s okay with you arguing the case that way, and see how he feels about it. If you get to the right place by lying and distorting the facts, no priest is going to like that.”
The debate got further heated as Santorum complained that New York’s law allows abortion up until the baby is about to be born. Looking to defend his brother and the murder of innocent, unborn children, Cuomo shot back: “A full-term baby to be born and swaddled and executed? That’s crap.”
Cuomo went even further into the gutter when he questioned if Santorum is being a good Catholic as he responded: “Rick, you’re better than this. You’re better than this as a Catholic — you’re better than this as a consumer of public thought.”
This is CNN, complete with Cuomo pulling Alinsky’s Rule #4 on Santorum.
THE 21ST CENTURY IS NOT TURNING OUT AS I’D HOPED: Couples are having less sex, study finds. I blame Netflix and social media.
KATHLEEN KENNEDY TOWNSEND, JOSEPH P. KENNEDY II AND MAEVE KENNEDY MCKEAN: RFK Jr. Is Our Brother and Uncle. He’s Tragically Wrong About Vaccines.
UK GUARDIAN HEADLINE: Atlantic City: ‘Trump turned this place into a ghost town.’ James Lileks pushes back.
YEAH A LOT OF STUFF SUGGESTS THAT: Survey suggests shame around mental illness fading in U.S.
DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES ARE MODERN-DAY SCROOGES: Why do Democratic presidential candidates donate so little to charity?
LIZ MAIR: Who Speaks for the Mountain West?
The Mountain West, long a second (or third) thought to the favorite-son, vote-rich Rust Belt states, is stepping, however lightly, into the limelight. Several Mountain West Democrats have jumped into the presidential race (from Colorado, former Gov. John Hickenlooper and Senator Michael Bennet) or are readying themselves to do so (Gov. Steve Bullock of Montana, and perhaps others). The Democratic Party has hopes that Arizona, which as John McCain used to observe is about the only state where mothers cannot in good faith tell their kids they can grow up to be president, will move into the Democratic column next year.
Not ceding any ground, President Trump’s re-election campaign has decreed that a trio of Mountain West blue states — Colorado, Nevada and New Mexico — are “flippable” in 2020.
It’s happy news for the region, which has become tired of being an afterthought for presidential campaigns thanks to its lower population levels and voters who seem to have a natural aversion to the way the rest of the country thinks. But it’s not clear that either party is naturally well placed to appeal to voters in the area, even if it’s nice that they purport to care.
I moved here a quarter century ago out of a love for the Front Range and the desire to be left alone. That seems to be a common attitude, but one which doesn’t play nice with national politics — or with our new neighbors formerly of California.
IS THERE NO CEILING ON KRUGMAN’S LUNACY? Apparently not, judging by his latest tweet blasting President Donald Trump for giving Tiger Woods the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
WELL, THIS IS THE 21ST CENTURY, YOU KNOW: U.S. Fighter Jets Could Soon Be Armed With Lasers.
OH: Rep. Ilhan Omar Supports Group That Produced Child Beheading Skit. “Why has Omar openly supported an organization with a long reported record of supporting terrorism and violence, as exhibited most recently by a shocking children’s pageant in Philadelphia last month?”
POINTS AND FIGURES: “I saw the NYT spread on Trump’s taxes. They are trying to turn it into a scandal. It’s not a scandal. Trump is a real estate developer and real estate developers can almost always show losses. This is a total disinformation campaign that takes advantage of people not knowing the tax code.” So, fairly typical NY Times product, then.
REALITY-BASED THERAPY.
ALWAYS THE LAST TO KNOW: 50 Years Later, ABC ‘Uncovers’ ‘Little-Known Story of Mary Jo Kopechne.’ “Which begs the question, why is Kopechne’s story so little-known and why is ABC only now uncovering it 50 years later?”
In press materials, ABC admitted the media’s culpability in taking the spotlight off of Kopechne and putting it on Kennedy, stating that “her story has largely been lost to history as the media and the public focused on the man whose career was forever damaged by the accident, rather than the bright and young woman who did not live to tell us what really happened on that mysterious night.”
Just think of the media as Democratic Party operatives with bylines, and Kopechne becoming a footnote makes perfect sense.
UNEXPECTED HEADLINES: Kim Kardashian West has helped free 17 inmates in 90 days.
“Kim has been funding this project and (has been) a very important supporter of our 90 Days of Freedom campaign as part of the First Step Act, which President Trump signed into law last year,” Cody said. “We’ve been going around the country in courtrooms and asking judges to release these inmates.”
Barnett added that without Kardashian West footing the bill, this would not have been possible. “(Kim) has provided financial support to cover legal fees so that we can travel the country. Our relationships with our clients don’t end when they are freed. (Kim) is truly dedicated to the issue. I work personally with her, we are really grateful.”
But she’s not just paying legal fees.
“When people get out of prison, they might be incarcerated hundreds of miles from their families and they might need help getting home. Really important, critical things that people might not realize — and those are things Kim is helping with as well,” Cody added.
Last year, Kardashian West visited President Trump at the White House to discuss the case of Alice Marie Johnson, a first-time non-violent drug offender who had already served 21 years of a life sentence. A week later, the President commuted Johnson’s sentence and she was released.
Although Kardashian West hasn’t been tweeting about each of these success stories to her over 60 million followers on Twitter, Barnett says it’s because they’ve all been “busy.”
I never thought I’d say this, but she’s doing good work.
FASTER, PLEASE: New Trend? — Hopkins Joins Loyola and Arizona in Arresting Protestors. “Banzhaf says that higher education may finally be getting smart, and doing what it should have begun doing a long time ago to deter the illegal conduct by a tiny number of students which infringes on the free speech and other rights of students and faculty.”
