MY HUSBAND IS DYING EVERY DAY:

Ron Fellows played cornerback for the Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Raiders from 1981–1988. He intercepted 19 passes and scored three touchdowns, including two on interception returns. Now 61 years old and living in Sacramento, Calif., Fellows suffers from Alzheimer’s, and his cognition is gradually declining. What follows is a description of life from the perspective of Debra Fellows, Ron’s wife since 2002, as told to Dom Cosentino.

Just recently, Ron’s best friend, who played for the Raiders, called me and said, “He’s getting worse isn’t he, Deb?” And I said, “Yeah.” And he hasn’t seen him in person for a couple of months. He said, “I can hear it on the phone … He’s angry all of the time.” And I said, “Exactly.”

While quarterback Andrew Luck was recently given plenty of grief by Indianapolis Colts fans for walking away from the NFL at age 29, the article above by Fellows’ wife, whose husband left the game at about the same age, is a harrowing tale of what awaits far too many players (and the families who look after them) after their careers are over. PRIVACY: I Visited 47 Sites. Hundreds of Trackers Followed Me.

Like a colonoscopy, the project involved some special prep. I had to install a version of the Firefox web browser that was created by privacy researchers to monitor how websites track users’ data. For several days this spring, I lived my life through this Invasive Firefox, which logged every site I visited, all the advertising tracking servers that were watching my surfing and all the data they obtained. Then I uploaded the data to my colleagues at The Times, who reconstructed my web sessions into the gloriously invasive picture of my digital life you see here. (The project brought us all very close; among other things, they could see my physical location and my passwords, which I’ve since changed.)

What did we find? The big story is as you’d expect: that everything you do online is logged in obscene detail, that you have no privacy. And yet, even expecting this, I was bowled over by the scale and detail of the tracking; even for short stints on the web, when I logged into Invasive Firefox just to check facts and catch up on the news, the amount of information collected about my endeavors was staggering.

WHY IS THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY SUCH A CESSPIT OF ANTI-SEMITISM? NJ NAACP President to Reporter: ‘I don’t talk to f***ing Jews.’

Jeffrey Dye declined to say if he plans to resign his post as President of the Passaic NAACP after several top Democrats urged him to move on.

“I don’t talk to fucking Jews,” Dye told the New Jersey Globe during a very brief telephone interview.  “Get the fuck out of here.”

Dye was fired from his job with the state Department of Labor and Workforce Development last week after the Globe reported that he had made anti-Semitic and anti-Latino comments on his personal Facebook page.

The president of the NAACP New Jersey Conference, Richard T. Smith, told the Globe that no decision has been made about Dye’s future.

“We are awaiting the return of our National President and CEO who is traveling abroad before further action is sanctioned,” Smith said.

Yesterday, “Dye posted a response on his Facebook page.  It is printed in its entirety:”

Ok To Everyone Looking At This Racist Bullshit I Want You To Be Clear, The Statement ( “I Don’t Talk To Fucking Jews” ) Is Simply A Lie By David Wallstien Who Is A Jewish Reporter For The New Jersey Globe. Now Tell David Wallstien To Let You Hear The Tape Which I Know Damn Well They Was Recording & I Promise You In Fact I Will Give That Person Who Has That On Tape $5,000.00 Dollars. Why Do You Think They Was So Close To Former Governor Chris Christie” ) And They Want To Disrupt & Dismantle & Get Rid Of The Passaic NAACP And Me The President. When You Have Any Real Activist That Speaks Like I Do He’s A Threat & Dangerous To Any Racist That’s Trying To Destroy Black & Latino People To Advance Their Cause To Dictate & Control This World.

Last week North Jersey.com reported that New Jersey’s Gov. Phil Murphy (D, though it’s not directly mentioned in the article) “says fired worker’s social media posts offensive, declines hiring questions:”

When asked who hired Dye, Murphy shut a reporter down. “I’ve said everything I’m going to say,” he said.

After this story published online Thursday, a spokeswoman for the Labor Department clarified that commissioner Robert Asaro-Angelo hired Dye but was not aware of his social media posts at that time.

A veteran state lawmaker had expressed concerns about Dye at “the highest levels” of the administration, and Dye had a criminal record that included drug possession and resisting arrest stemming from an incident in which he allegedly punched a police officer in Passaic. That did not seem to concern Murphy.

“People, if they make reparations, if they make up for what they’ve done, I’d like to be the state where folks get a second chance,” Murphy said.

We need a complete and total shutdown of New Jersey until we can figure out what the hell is going on there.

ACADEMIC HISTORY IS BUNK: How Twitter is Corrupting the History Profession. In my academic work, I’ve done a great deal of historical research. I find that whenever I research something myself, the “standard” historical story is replete with errors of fact, and extremely dubious interpretations, especially with regard to anything that requires a modicum of understanding of economics. There are ideological biases, of course, but there are also many situations in which one famous historian essentially made something up based on dubious or incomplete or distorted evidence, and other historians just repeat the invention for generations, without anyone bothering to check the original sources. In short, professional standards in academic history tend to be quite low, which is why it’s easy to corrupt historians.

RICHARD FERNANDEZ: USA VS. CHINA. “That the contest is even close is testimony to how stagnant the West has become.” Plus: “The instinct for survival keeps Beijing from crushing the rebellious Hong Kongers. One wonders whether the complacent rulers of Western capitals are similarly constrained or whether they have been in power too long to feel threatened.”

NON-SHOCKING ITEM OF THE DAY: Execs claim Biden’s brother offered Biden’s help promoting business venture.

The allegations are consistent with others made over the years that relatives of Biden have sought to enrich themselves off of his public service. But they go further, representing the first explicit claims that James Biden offered to have the former vice president use his clout to further private business interests.

The allegations come in sworn declarations made by executives at firms suing Biden’s brother that were filed in federal court on Friday. They do not allege any wrongdoing by Joe Biden or indicate that the former vice president had knowledge of his brother’s alleged promises.

Neither George Mesires, a lawyer for James Biden, nor Andrew Bates, a spokesman for the Biden campaign, immediately responded to a request for comment on the new allegations.

KRUISER’S MORNING BRIEF: NBC Fake News Blues Edition. “Rough Hump Day for the once-proud Peacock Network’s news division, which ended up having two of its ‘journalists’ issue public retractions after being so eager to make President Trump look bad that neither bothered to do any basic fact-checking.”

SHOCKER: Poll: Public backs criticism of journalists, Trump’s attacks ‘appropriate.’

In the latest sign that major American media outlets are losing the public’s support, a majority believe it is appropriate for politicians to criticize reporters and hold them to the same scrutiny as those they cover.

A new Rasmussen Reports survey also said most voters believe the average journalist is liberal, and few are conservative.

The survey is an indictment of the media at a time when liberal outlets such as CNN and the New York Times are stepping up their attack on President Trump and congressional Republicans.

The outlets are also complaining about Trump’s criticism of them and called out Trump surrogates who are using social media to point out the bias of journalists.

But, said Rasmussen, voters believe that reporters are fair game for criticism.

The survey analysis said 61% of likely U.S. voters think reporters at major news organizations like CNN, Fox News, and the New York Times are public figures who deserve scrutiny.

Only 19% disagree.

DEM FEC CHIEF GETS SOME POINTED QUESTIONS: Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Ill.) is the ranking Republican on the Committee on House Administration, which has oversight over the Federal Election Commission (FEC).

Ellen Weintraub is the hyper-partisan Democrat currently occupying the commission chairman’s seat. She has an ongoing feud with President Donald Trump because he claims massive voter fraud kept him from winning New Hampshire in the 2016 presidential race. She recently used official FEC stationery to challenge Trump to produce evidence for his allegation or shut up about it.

So now, Davis has addressed a flurry of pointed questions to Weintraub that taken together essentially tells her to stop playing partisan games with the FEC and to pay attention to the job for which taxpayers are providing her a tidy salary and benefits package. Any bets on whether she will? I didn’t think so, either.

HARSH, BUT FAIR.
