OUR LAWLESS GOVERNMENT: Education Dept. fails to respond on time to senator’s overreach inquiry. “The Education Department has failed to respond to a request from Sen. James Lankford, R-Okla., regarding the Department’s authority to regulate bullying, harassment and sexual violence. In January, Lankford sent the Department a letter requesting it to name the specific law or regulation that gave it the authority to begin forcing schools to adjudicate such misconduct. Lankford gave the Department 28 days to respond, which would have been Thursday. Instead, the Department requested more time.”

Shouldn’t they know the legal basis for exerting their authority before they do so? Well, only in a lawful government, which this is not.

NEWS YOU CAN USE: Being a Dishwasher at IKEA Is Everyone’s Worst Nightmare.

I have to say that shopping there is no picnic, either — there are some nice products, but the stores’ claustrophobic, maze-like design is not my idea of a fun afternoon.

A WIN FOR THE INSTITUTE FOR JUSTICE: NC Forfeiture Victim Wins Final Vindication In Fight Against IRS. “Lyndon’s case came to the nation’s attention after the IRS seized his entire bank account in July 2014 using civil forfeiture for the innocent act of depositing his hard-earned money in the bank in amounts under $10,000. The Institute for Justice took Lyndon’s case to clear his name and get back his property, and in June 2015, the government finally returned Lyndon’s money. In returning Lyndon’s money, however, the government sought to avoid its obligation under federal law to pay Lyndon’s attorneys’ fees, costs, and interest. Lyndon racked up nearly $20,000 in fees owed to his accountant and lawyer before the Institute for Justice took his case on a pro bono basis. The district court’s decision rejected the government’s maneuver.”

The fees and interest ought to come out of the prosecutors’ own pockets, to truly be fair.
