MARC THIESSEN: Bill Clinton’s terrorism strategy led to 9/11. Hillary Clinton’s is the exact same thing.

Hillary Clinton recently explained her plan to deal with the Islamic State. “We’ve got to do it with air power,” she declared at NBC’s Commander-in-Chief Forum, adding that “they are not going to get ground troops. We are not putting ground troops into Iraq ever again. And we’re not putting ground troops into Syria. We’re going to defeat ISIS without committing American ground troops.”

If that sounds familiar, it should. It is a perfect description of the “Clinton Doctrine” — President Bill Clinton’s disastrous, failed policy of fighting terrorists from the air.

Why were terrorists emboldened to attack us on 9/11? Because, during Bill Clinton’s eight years in office, they had waged a virtually unimpeded offensive against the United States. On Clinton’s watch, terrorists launched a string of escalating attacks, each one bolder than the last: the first attack on the World Trade Center in 1993; the attack on Khobar Towers in Saudi Arabia three years later; the 1998 bombings of U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania; and the 2000 attack on the USS Cole.

Each of these attacks was carried out with no effective U.S. response. Clinton employed a combination of law enforcement (the arrest of Ramzi Yousef for the World Trade Center bombing) and symbolic, pinprick cruise-missile strikes — firing, in the words of President George W. Bush, “a $2 million missile at a $10 empty tent [to] hit a camel in the butt.” The terrorists were allowed to maintain their haven in Afghanistan, where they planned the 9/11 attacks, which was well underway – including the deployment of some of the hijackers to the United States — before Clinton left office.

This was all spelled out in The Path To 9/11, so effectively that the Clintons managed to block its further release.

OH YEAH, THIS IS ON SALE TOO: Btw, I find it interesting most of the bad comments on it relate to stuff like spelling and continuity.  I’m not saying it’s perfect now, but I’ll say that there were a lot of errors in the final which were not in what I delivered.  We edited for reissue what I delivered, so it’s cleaner.  You know, layers and layers of copyeditting versus some writers in their pajamas.  This all sounds so familiar.  Death of a Musketeer, first of the Musketeer Mysteries, 99c.

WELL, IF SHE FAILS TO MAKE IT TO THE WHITE HOUSE, SHE CAN ALWAYS FIND A JOB WITH TOR: She sounds a lot like TOR art director Irene Gallo talking about my friends and I. How… Deplorable.

OH, YEAH THIS IS ON SALE: I’m going to bring out the rest of the short stories in collections, so I decided to start with a sale on the ones that are out. Wings Kindle Edition 99c

YEAH, BUT DO THEY HAVE DEGREES FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA? Coup Brewing at the Fed?  (For some reason I find myself singing that title to the tune of “Dream a little Dream of me.”  Try it.  “Coup brewing at the fed.”
… okay, maybe I’m tired.

PAUL RAHE: Trump Seizes A Golden Opportunity. “Hillary Clinton crossed a line Friday night when she borrowed a line from Barack Obama’s playbook and demonized those who disagree with her, denouncing one-quarter of her fellow Americans as sexists, racists, homophobes, and Islamophobes and castigating them as a ‘basket of deplorables.’ It is one thing to attack a political candidate or even a political party. When one thinks that they have gone astray, they are fair game. It is another to go after their voters; and today, when Donald Trump responded to this vile attempt to set American against American and to sow the seeds of civil strife, he hit a home run.”

SORRY, I COULDN’T RESIST:

MIKE PENCE ON WHETHER DAVID DUKE IS “DEPLORABLE”: WE DENOUNCE HIM AND DON’T WANT HIS SUPPORT, BUT I WON’T NAME-CALL. As Allahpundit writes, linking to the clip from CNN:

Even worse, if Pence plays Blitzer’s game here, then the obvious follow-up question is “Who else among your supporters is legitimately deplorable? The alt-right? Birthers?” As the circle gets bigger, the politics get dicier for Trump and Pence. Which was exactly Clinton’s plan in floating the “deplorable” line in the first place — get the media talking about Trump’s base and get them pressing Trump and Pence about it. If the candidates validate her criticism by conceding it applies to some of their own fans, that’s a point in her favor. If they squirm and refuse to concede it applies to anyone, including David Duke, then mischief can be made of that too. Even though Pence is perfectly clear in his denunciation.

That doesn’t stop CNN from blasting out a press release tonight with the headline “Pence declines to call Trump supporter David Duke ‘deplorable.’”

I eagerly await CNN’s young “media critic” Brian Stelter calling out his network for such slimy tactics.

TOO LITTLE, TOO LATE? Mizzou holds free speech forum.

The University of Missouri — now famous for petulant protests over “microaggressions” and an assistant professor who threatened a student journalist — appears to be changing its ways.

At least that’s the impression from a mandatory forum for incoming freshmen, where free speech was actually allowed.

“I think it’s really important to keep in mind that a respectful campus climate is not achieved by policing what people think or say,” Elisa Glick, an associate professor of women’s studies and English, said at the event, a recording of which was provided to the College Fix.

Good point, and I’m glad the greatly-diminished number of incoming freshmen at Mizzou are hearing this.

SO I’M READING NATHAN LOWELL’S LATEST, and marveling at his ability to keep things interesting even when, really, not much is happening.

MY USA TODAY COLUMN: We need more lawyers, seriously. At least, more lawyers like the ones at the Institute for Justice.
