WHY OBAMA IS UNTEACHABLE: “Mr. Obama’s distrust of America’s motives throughout history was learned from [radical Palestinian activist Edward Said]. Couple that with the anti-American vitriol of Mr. Obama’s longtime pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, and you produce inevitably Mr. Obama’s personal ideology,” Jed Babbin writes. “It is only by this analysis can we account for Mr. Obama’s actions since he became president.”

THE BITTER FRUITS OF ONE-CHILD POLICY: China’s Grieving Parents Demand Compensation.
“I don’t have any hope anymore,” said Zhou Ru Xian, whose 24-year-old daughter died in 2013.
Zhou was among those at a Beijing protest highlighting the issue on Tuesday. Hundreds of police officers later herded many of the demonstrators onto buses.
The anger of such parents has intensified since the government last year announced it was reforming the one-child policy and giving couples the option of having a second baby. For decades, such an offense brought serious punishment including jail time, fines, or forced sterilization.
Critics claim changing family planning laws now may not be enough to stave off a demographic crisis in China. The population is expected to peak at 1.45 billion by 2050, when one-in-three Chinese will be over the age of 60 and a shrinking workforce may be unable to keep up.

ANGELA MERKEL’S ROAD TO MORAL SURRENDER.
As Mark Steyn writes in a related essay titled “Where the Streets Have No Jokes:”
You can take the girl out of East Germany, but you can’t take the East Germany out of the girl. In the Eighties, Angela Merkel, was a board member of the FDJ — the “Free German Youth”, the kiddie wing of the one-party state — and the local secretary in charge of “agitprop”. So she has a deep understanding of how art and even humble jokes must serve the needs of the regime — in this case, kissing up to the new sultan.
She’s taking a wrecking ball to the liberal values of postwar Germany, but hey, she made Time magazine’s “Woman of the Year” last year. I hope the tradeoff was worth it, both for her and Europe’s future, or the lack thereof.
NOW OBAMA IS USING REGULATORY “DARK MATTER” – THINK BLOG POSTS – TO RUN OUR LIVES: New report out today from the Competitive Enterprise Institute documents yet another disturbing way President Obama and the federal bureaucracy are doing end-runs around democracy.
“Agencies are increasingly using these informal documents to create official regulations with consequences, like recent U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) guidance claiming landlords and home sellers who don’t rent or sell to convicted criminals are violating the Fair Housing Act,” reports Katie Watson of the Daily Caller News Foundation Investigative Group.
“These guidance documents are “purportedly not legally binding,” but they still “cajole and intimidate” people and businesses into complying with the agency, CEI said. Most new rules never reach the attention of the media or Congress,” Watson said. Go here for more.
MARC THIESSEN: Trump’s ‘voterless’ election myth.
This is dead wrong. In both Colorado and Wyoming, all registered Republican voters in the state had the chance to vote and participate in the delegate selection process.
The Wyoming Republican Party website explains the process clearly: “Delegates to the state convention are elected by the county conventions. Delegates to the county convention are elected by precinct caucuses in their respective counties. Any person registered to vote Republican as of the call for precinct caucuses in a given precinct may vote in that precinct’s caucus” (emphasis added).
In other words, there is a whole lot of voting going on. All Republicans in Wyoming had the chance to go to their precinct and vote for delegates who support their preferred candidate. And they did so in record numbers. In Laramie County, for example, the lines ran out the door on Super Tuesday, and turnout was up almost 400 percent compared with 2012. “The lines outside, they are amazing,” said Glen Chavez, a first-time caucus-goer. “If you’ve never taken part in something like this, get involved. If you want to make the difference, you make the change.”
The same was true for Colorado.

“Voterless election” makes for great clickbait and angry social media chatter, but it just isn’t true.
THE NEW MINIMUM WAGE AND THE NEW WORKING CLASS POOR: “Why have California and New York state moved to implement a $15 minimum wage? They say that it’s to provide workers with a ‘living wage’…lost in all the hoopla is that raising the minimum wage is not only a poverty trap, but really a disguised income redistribution.”

THE COST OF GIVING IN TO LEFTIES: 50 jobs eliminated as University of Missouri cuts hit cleaning, maintenance operations.
The University of Missouri will be shaggier and dirtier and faculty will be responsible for taking their own trash to dumpsters under the plan for cutting 50 jobs in campus operations detailed in an email memo sent Friday by Vice Chancellor Gary Ward.
Landscaping operations will be cut back so sidewalk edges are trimmed no more than twice a year and only in the most visible locations, Ward wrote. After Saturday football games, the debris left by tailgaters will not be picked up until Monday, he wrote.
“This frees up custodians to assist with recycling, which, previously, has been a volunteer effort,” Ward wrote.
The plan to save $5.47 million in the MU Operations division that employs 842 people exempts the MU Police Department and MU Environmental Health and Safety. Ward warned it likely means slower response time for maintenance issues, less overtime and slower snow removal.
In the email, Ward warned that “we will be unable to sustain the level of service for which you have become accustomed. I do not anticipate that changes beginning July 1, 2016, will inhibit the academic mission at Mizzou, nor is it my intention for that to ever happen.”
Ward’s email is his response to a March 9 directive for a 5 percent cut to general fund budgets from interim Chancellor Hank Foley. The directive imposed a hiring freeze and warned there would be no salary increases.
The Columbia campus is trying to cover $22 million of an expected $32.5 million shortfall because of declining enrollment and new commitments such as the new Division of Inclusion, Diversity and Equity, spokesman Christian Basi said.
THIS DOES APPEAR TO BE A POPULAR STRATEGY: If You Have No Good Intellectual Arguments, Accuse Your Opponents of Being Shills.
The stupidest, lamest, and couldn’t-be-more-mistaken charge often leveled at those who find great merits in free markets (such as me and my colleagues at GMU Economics and the Mercatus Center, and my dear friends at institutions such as the Cato Institute and the Hoover Institution) is that we’re “bought off by” or are “paid shills for” rich business people.
Such a charge or belief reflects an utter misunderstanding of economics and of how economies operate. Currently successful business people have a material interest in stifling at least some market competition and in themselves receiving handouts and special privileges from the state; these business people have no material interest in universally competitive markets or in efforts to keep the state so small and limited that it gives to no one any handouts or special privileges. And yet despite the fact that my colleagues and I are forever pointing out how fine-sounding policies – such as minimum-wage legislation and tariffs – actually harm mostly the poor and unjustly benefit mostly the rich by suppressing competition and channeling to the rich other people’s funds, we are lazily supposed by feeble-minded (if often highly schooled) people as being shills for the rich.
Such a charge or belief reflects also an utter misunderstanding of politics and the state. The feeble-minded or intellectually lazy people who suppose that giving greater power to the state is the best means of ‘saving’ the poor and weak from the predations of ‘the rich’ and powerful are, well, feeble-minded or intellectually lazy.
Alternatively, they’re shills for crony-corruption and are engaged in projection.
