“A VERITABLE ARMORY:” The LAT reports:
Police discovered a veritable armory when they searched Farook and Malik’s Redlands home, recovering a dozen pipe bombs, 2,000 9-millimeter handgun rounds, 2,500 .223-caliber assault rifle rounds and “hundreds of tools” that could have been used to make additional explosive devices, Burguan said.
“Certainly they were equipped and they could have continued to do another attack … we intercepted them,” he said….
During a news conference Thursday, Burguan said the suspects had 1,400 assault rifle rounds and 200 handgun rounds in their car as they fled from police. The couple fired 76 rounds at officers during the shootout, and officers shot 380 rounds in return. Burguan said he believed the suspects shot first.
Despite uncertainty about the motive for the attack, Burguan said the cache of weapons and ammunition found at the couple’s home obviously suggests it was preplanned.
FWIW, I’m relying on the LAT reporters, who are treating this as a big local story to be taken step by step as information comes out rather than spun as quickly as possible to fit a pre-existing political narrative.

GENDER “EQUALITY”?: Defense Secretary Ashton Carter announced today that the military is opening all combat units to women.
The decision opens the military’s most elite units to women who can meet the rigorous requirements for the positions for the first time, including in the Navy SEALs, Army Special Forces and other Special Operations Units. It also opens the Marine Corps infantry, a battle-hardened force that many service officials had openly advocated keeping closed to female service members.
“There will be no exceptions,” Carter said. “This means that, as long as they qualify and meet the standards, women will now be able to contribute to our mission in ways they could not before.”. . .
About 220,000 jobs and 10 percent of the military remained closed to women before Tuesday’s announcement, Carter said.
It’s not all rainbows and butterflies for women. I assume this portends that any future military draft will include both men and women.

To lay the blame for what happened Wednesday in San Bernardino on Barack Obama might seem excessive. But if not on him, who? From the day he took office, the president has been engaged in a game of outright denial that Islam has anything to do with what is wrong in the world.
In fact, if he ever points a finger, it’s usually at Western imperialism or Christianity or Republicans or Benjamin Netanyahu (to name a few of his favorite enemies).
But never at the I-word.
To paraphrase H.L. Mencken, “When somebody says it’s not about Islam, it’s about Islam.”
Syed Farook did not go to Saudi Arabia to study Zen Buddhism. America, and its trailing entities in Europe, has a problem now of gargantuan proportions. Barack Obama was and is precisely the wrong man, possibly the worst conceivable man, to be president of the United States at this point in history.
Obama’s worldview is not one that’s beneficial to the United States.
Plus: “The literal DESPERATION to keep blaming the San Bernardino carnage on ‘workplace grievances’ as CNN is still doing is nothing short of delusional and an example of the cognitive disorder engulfing our media and the left in the face of radical Islam.”

Local and federal authorities – as well as President Obama – continued Thursday to resist calling the carnage at a San Bernardino social services facility terrorism, even as evidence mounted that the pair, who wore tactical gear and moved with grim precision, may have been jihadists armed to the teeth and hellbent on slaughtering innocent Americans. More than 5,000 rounds of ammunition were later found in their home, which sources described as “an IED factory” packed with explosives and bomb-making equipment.”
To be fair, 5000 rounds of ammo is what we in Tennesssee call “a nice start.”
