RANDOM THOUGHTS ABOUT THE RISK OF BEING SHOT TO DEATH, at The Truth About Guns: “When the left dissents, it’s patriotism even though it’s just the opposite. When the right dissents, it’s insurrection even though it’s just the opposite. And in the left’s Bizarro America, the CSGV (Coalition to Stop Gun Violence) is the new Ministry of Truth.”

THE HILL: Rahm Takes Heat From Black Lawmakers.

It’s “disturbing” the video of the fall 2014 incident was released now, seven months after the Democratic mayor’s reelection, said Rep. Marcia Fudge (D-Ohio), a former mayor herself and a past chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus.

“The whole scenario stinks,” said Rep. Lacy Clay (D-Mo.), who represents Ferguson, which experienced violent protests last year after a white police officer killed another unarmed black teen, Michael Brown.

“I think it was intentional and timed that way” so the video wasn’t released until after Emanuel’s reelection in April, he added.

“It’s pretty obvious to anybody that there is some cover-up taking place here,” added longtime Rep. James Clyburn (D-S.C.), the No. 3 Democrat in leadership and another former CBC chairman. “How high that goes up, I don’t know.”

Me neither, but I have a strong suspicion.

WAPO FACTCHECK: Obama’s Inconsistent Claim On The Frequency Of Mass Shootings. “Comparing to the U.S. to Europe (including OECD and non-OCED countries) from 2009 to 2015 shows the rate of mass shootings in the United States and Europe are about the same, Lott said. (Lott uses the FBI definition of four or more killings in a public space, excludes gang or crime-related activity, and includes acts identified as terrorism.)”

EXERCISE AND BEER CLOSELY LINKED – Researchers at Penn state have published a study that finds “an unequivocal correlation between exercising on any given day and subsequently drinking.”  The relationship “held true throughout all seasons of the year and whether someone was a man or a woman, a collegian or a retiree. Age and gender did not affect the results.”  Glenn and I regularly meet for a drink (usually whiskey or wine rather than beer, but still) after a Rippetoe style lifting session.  It helps with recovery and makes us more likely to do both activities again.  I’m guessing there me be some similar activities at Bullets & Bourbon this weekend.

HIGHER EDUCATION BUBBLE UPDATE, LEGAL EDUCATION EDITION: LSAC, LST Debate The Use Of LSAT Scores As A Bar Passage Predictor.

Here’s the thing: Many law schools are desperate for warm bodies, and don’t want any standards that might limit their ability to fill seats. Suggesting that students with low LSATs are very unlikely to pass the bar (hint: they generally are) is thus inconvenient for them. Keep that in mind as you follow this debate.
