IS THE CULTURAL CONVERSATION ABOUT MEN, ACCESSIBLE TO MEN? “No.” Only women are supposed to be able to talk about gender issues. “If my Facebook News Feed is any small sampling of a larger cultural trend, the sound bites and headlines related to men are overwhelmingly negative. Part open season, part reprimand, all a form of galvanization of one (un)kind or another. Though the tone from conservative, liberal, religious and secular, women and men, varies—regardless of the medium—the underlying message is the same: man up. And by this is meant: check your privilege. And by this is sensed: males, your opinions on matters of sexual and social importance are less important, your experience is less valid, and any offence you may have felt is less offensive than the offense you have (if only collectively) dealt.”

The proper response to this treatment, by the way, is to say “fuck off — what makes you so special?”

JULIETTE “BALDILOCKS” OCHIENG COULD USE SOME HELP. I just hit her PayPal button. You might want to do the same if you’re a fan.

YEAH, WELL, I DON’T REALLY CARE WHAT YOU THINK, SINCE YOU’VE NEVER ACTUALLY DONE ANYTHING OF CONSEQUENCE EXCEPT COMPLAIN: I don’t care if you landed a spacecraft on a comet, your shirt is sexist and ostracizing.

Landing on a comet is a big deal. Complaining about men isn’t. Also, we’ve been told that it’s always sexist and inappropriate for men to comment on women’s choice of attire, so why should women be allowed to criticize what men wear? This is just another sad effort on the part of losers to inject themselves into matters that are actually relevant, but in which they are unqualified to take part.

UPDATE: When Did The Left Turn Into Rick Santorum?

Related: Epic Bullying. “Matt Taylor, I realize you will never see this, or your awesome friend Elly Prizeman who made the shirt for you. But I’m so sad that the bullies took the joy out of your amazing accomplishments, and the pleasure from wearing your cool shirt. I hope someday you can don it again with a smile, instead of seeing the cloud they are raining on you with right now. Philae is a reason for kids to get into science, your shirt is just a great expression of individual freedom.”

TEST DRIVING THE 2016 AUDI RS7. Weirdly, it seems to have gotten slower than the 2014 model that I drove: “The engine provides fantastic straight-line performance: Audi claims it will run from zero to 62 mph in 3.9 seconds, but we measured 3.4 seconds to 60 mph in a 2014 model.”

LYNCH MOB OF FEMINIST BULLIES ATTACKS SCIENCE: Comet scientist offers tearful apology after the Internet is offended by his shirt. So basically what we’re being told is that for STEM to be welcoming to women . . . the apparel has to be correct?

UPDATE: Ed Driscoll: The Wrong Stuff.

Just to be clear, Rose Eveleth of The Atlantic is a horrible person, who took what should have been one of the best days of a man’s life, a day of doing something no human beings had ever done before, and ruined it in order to feel important. She should be apologizing, not taking Twitter victory laps.

A CHEAPER, SIMPLER OBAMACARE PLAN?

As a frequent critic of Obamacare, I’m often asked, “Well, how would you solve the problem? Huh?” The implication is that if I don’t have a solution, I should shut up and endorse the one Democrats provided.

This is not sound policy thinking. As I am fond of saying, “The existence of a problem does not therefore imply the existence of a solution.” It is not inevitably true that there is some policy solution that would be better than the status quo, even if we really dislike the status quo. . . .

We could have spent the last four years fighting over something else progressives wanted, such as serious action on climate change.(Which is something I want, too, and no, for reasons I will explain shortly, the latest China deal doesn’t count.)

I think that from the libertarian perspective, either of these proposals should be preferable to Obamacare. I’d even argue that they should both be more appealing to progressives. But the administration didn’t want simple, modest and stable; it wanted a massive, transformational legacy. Which is why, four years later, we’re still fighting about it.

Well, it’s transformed a bunch of Democratic Senators into former Senators. That’s something.

ED MORRISSEY: WaPo fact check: Yes, Gruber got $400,000 for ObamaCare work. “Or, if you prefer a more acerbic conclusion, taxpayers paid Jonathan Gruber in the mid-six-figures to lie to them, and then brag about it to all of his friends and fans later.”

And also, as Morrissey notes, to lie to the CBO.

HEY, THESE POSSIBILITIES AREN’T MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE, YOU KNOW: The Nancy Pelosi possibilities: lying, suffering from serious memory loss, or a facade whose power is exercised by unelected others.

Plus: “A sign of the times: Lefty website FireDogLake attacks: ‘Trying to pretend Gruber had no part in crafting Obamacare or that you have never heard of him despite considerable evidence to the contrary does sound like someone who is relying on a lack of transparency and the stupidity of the American voter – doesn’t it?'”
