BLOGOSPHERIC SUPERVISION: “The bigger point is the point I’ve made here repeatedly over the years about Politico, and more recently Buzzfeed, which is a lack of transparency. Politico has the patina of neutrality, but relentlessly goes after Republicans with a gusto and joy not seen when it comes to Democrats in general and Obama in particular.”

JAMES TARANTO: The Limits of Moral Suasion: Mayor Bloomberg tries to follow Charles Murray’s advice. “If men have no reproductive rights, it follows logically that they have no reproductive responsibilities. That’s an abstract formulation, and one with which the law is often inconsistent: Family courts frequently attempt to hold men responsible for their offspring (though that poster slogan ‘Dad, you’ll be paying to support me for the next 20 years’ almost surely makes a false promise to Mom).”

REMEMBER, ONLY THE POLICE CAN BE TRUSTED TO HANDLE GUNS RESPONSIBLY: Police: Off-duty cop drew gun when another dog got close. “An off-duty Boston cop drew her gun when an off-leash mutt got too close to her prized pug on a walk through Franklin Park yesterday, police said — an incident that is now under review by the department.”

SLATE: President Obama promised transparency and open government. He failed miserably. So why do Washington watchdog groups look the other way? They only watch Republican dogs. “The storyline is classic Washington: Whistleblowers run to Congress about bad behavior; Congress demands answers; the White House throws up a wall. But where is the outrage, especially from the very groups who are supposed to be holding the government accountable? It doesn’t exist.”

I DON’T THINK THEY HAVE MUCH TO WORRY ABOUT: Senate Democrats pepper Obama with questions about entitlement reform. “Democrats emerged from the Senate’s Mike Mansfield Room publicly declaring party unity. But behind closed doors, liberals in the Senate caucus raised reservations about Obama’s readiness to consider cuts to Social Security benefits and his support for a deficit-reduction package evenly split between spending cuts and tax increases.”

On the other hand, it’s expiration dates all the way down.

WOULD MANDATORY GUN OWNERSHIP violate citizens’ constitutional rights? No, because it’s an exercise of Congress’s power to arm the militia under Article I, section 8. In fact, the Militia Act of 1792 required adult males to own guns and ammunition.
