JOURNALISM: Science is hard: Andrea Mitchell ‘reports’ that ‘Fearless Felix traveled faster than speed of light.’ Sound, light, what’s the difference?

On the upside, if these people were smarter, they’d probably do more damage.

UPDATE: Reader G.L. Carlson writes:

“There once was a lady named Bright
Whose speed was much faster than light.
She departed one day
In a relative way
And arrived on the previous night”

Kinda takes all the risk out of it, knowing you’ll arrive safely before you jump…

Heh.

ANOTHER UPDATE: Andrea Mitchell last month: I Plead Guilty To Being One of The ‘Elite, Smart People.’

Uh huh.

BUT WHEN YOU GIVE YOUR OWN MONEY TO CHARITY, THAT’S GREEDY. Taxes, charity cost Romney 57.9 percent of income. “With President Obama expected to use his second-chance debate this week to portray Mitt Romney as an uncaring rich guy, a new analysis of the GOP candidate’s wealth shows that the millionaire was so generous that he kept just 42 percent of his income.”

It’s only compassionate if you let politicians decide where your money goes.

SHH! DON’T TALK ABOUT THIS UNTIL AFTER THE ELECTION! Feds have more than 1,900 investigations open into alleged stimulus wrongdoing. “With little notice, inspectors generals across federal agencies are piecing together criminal and civil cases into stimulus money that was misspent, wasted or defrauded. . . . The Recovery Board charged with coordinating efforts among than inspectors generals at more than two dozen federal agencies that distributed stimulus money posted an item on its official blog last month claiming the total amount of money lost to fraud from the $840 billion stimulus program was a miniscule $11.1 million so far. Vice President Joe Biden even made reference to the figure as he defended the stimulus program from attacks from Republican Rep. Paul Ryan during the vice presidential debate last Thursday. But that number only identifies money that is considered lost to fraud and does not include funds still under investigation or those recommended for reimbursement after audits identified misspending, officials said. And a senior official familiar with the ongoing investigations by inspectors generals at federal agencies told the Washington Guardian the government expects the loss figure to balloon in coming months.”

You know, after the election.

HIGHER EDUCATION BUBBLE UPDATE: Biased Against The Bright? “Grading has fallen victim to the ‘social justice’ mandate of the university.”

WELCOME BACK CARTER: Actual, 1979-era headline at the Drudge Report: HUNDREDS OF SKATEBOARDERS RUN WILD IN L.A., TRASH BUSINESSES…

Wow, were Tony Alva and Stacy Peralta there, too? Were there guys pulling off rad, gnarly moves wearing Devo hats? In any case, how many centuries will it take for the 1970s to run their course in California?

UPDATE: The story gets even better: The Vine Theater, ground zero for Saturday’s Night’s skateboard riot, was also ground zero for an entirely different — or is it? — riot. Or as Wikipedia notes:

The video production, “Innocence of Bin Laden” was advertised in the Anaheim-based newspaper Arab World during the months of both May and June. The advertisement cost $300 to run three times in the paper and was paid by an individual identified only as “Joseph”. The advertisements were noted by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), whose Islamic affairs director stated, “When we saw the advertisement in the paper, we were interested in knowing if it was some kind of pro-jihadist movie.” Brian Donnelly, a guide for a Los Angeles based tour of famous crime scenes who noticed the poster advertising at the Vine Theater, said, “I didn’t know if it was a good thing or a bad thing. We didn’t know what it was about because we can’t read Arabic.”The earlier version of the film was screened once at the Vine Theater of June 23, 2012 to an audience of only ten people. The film had no subtitles and was presented in English. An employee of the theater stated, “The film we screened was titled The Innocence of Bin Laden,” and added that it was a “small viewing.”

Who knew that chanting “Death to the Infidels!” and “Totally radical, dude!” could be so interchangeable?

THIS IS NOT WHAT DEMOCRACY LOOKS LIKE: Take a look at this disturbing and tense video of mob violence in Cairo when Islamists and secular activists effectively went to war with each other in Tahrir Square. There are no cops in this video, nor are there any women. (Thanks to Jeffrey Goldberg and MEMRI.)
