ARIANNA THE UNION-BUSTER? Newspaper Guild adds firepower to Huffington Post strike. “A strike called by unpaid Huffington Post contributors received a major boost Wednesday with a call to arms released by the national Newspaper Guild. . . . The Newspaper Guild boasts 26,000 members and is affiliated with the Communications Workers of America (CWA). The CWA is affiliated with the AFL-CIO.” Come on, Arianna, have a heart. Give ’em all a 10% pay increase. . . .

Of course, the Communications Workers of America is the home of that slimy thug who assaulted Tabitha Hale. So they can all starve as far as I’m concerned. And if they work for Arianna, that’s likely! You go, girl.

BLINK: Libya declares cease-fire and says it will stop military operations as the West mobilizes.

UPDATE: Related: Palin Doctrine Emerges as Arab League Echoes Her Demarche on Libya. And Libya’s response seems to vindicate that approach.

ANOTHER UPDATE: Qaddafi reminded who the weak horse is after all? When America chooses to be the strong horse, anyway. My prediction: After seeing this reaction, and as he looks increasingly ineffectual elsewhere, Obama will take a more aggressive foreign policy approach in the future.

METAPHOR ALERT: “The state fiscal monitor who oversees financial operations in the school district Thursday morning ordered the closing of the Barack H. Obama Elementary School as of July 1.” Because of financial and management shortfalls.

THIS COMES DANGEROUSLY CLOSE TO AN ADMISSION: SEC Moves Toward Charging Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac Executives. “The Securities and Exchange Commission is moving toward charging former and current Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac executives with violations related to the financial crisis, setting up a clash with the housing regulator that oversees the companies, according to sources familiar with the matter.”

MORE ON THAT DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION INSIDER-TRADING SCANDAL: “A key watchdog group issued a legal filing Thursday demanding e-mails and other documents from Education Department Sec. Arne Duncan and his top aides under the Freedom of Information Act relating to the influence of Wall Street short sellers on a controversial new regulation governing for-profit or ‘career’ colleges.”

TAM ON RADIATION FEARS: Dear News Media:

Remember back in ’50s and early ’60s, when we set off something like 900 atomic bombs in Nevada? And how we just let the fallout blow wherever and it landed all over the eastern US? And how it wiped out life as we know it and all that was left from Colorado to the Atlantic were six-legged rats battling two-headed cockroaches in the glowing ruins?

Yeah. Exactly. So shut up with the panic already.

(And Lester Holt of Today? Stop being such a big girl’s blouse.)

Heh.

SURE, GOLD-PLATED PENSIONS ARE EXACTLY LIKE DESEGREGATED SCHOOLS: Union Equates Lavish Benefits With Black Civil Rights. I have to say, I agree with this response: “It is delusion, bordering on abomination, to try to equate what Martin Luther King was doing in Memphis to public workers getting Cadillac benefits for which they contribute very little, or nothing, at taxpayers’ expense.”

UTAH NAMES ITS OFFICIAL STATE GUN, the 1911 model. Every state should have an official state gun.

I think Tennessee should move fast, and name the Barrett .50. It’s even made here.

ANN ALTHOUSE: Time Columnist Says James O’Keefe Edited His NPR Videos Unfairly, But The Firings Speak For Themselves. “If O’Keefe is to blame, NPR should have defended Schiller. It didn’t. The full video was there. If it undercut O’Keefe’s edit, NPR could have reframed the narrative. Such an effort would have gotten plenty of play in the media. But NPR didn’t even try. Of course, O’Keefe put his video together in a strong way to make his point, but he exposed himself to a powerful counterattack… that didn’t happen. QED.”

Plus, from the comments: “I think the pots are calling the refrigerator black. They should be so circumspect about Sarah Palin’s early interviews, or of just about anybody who has been the target of Sixty Minutes. The difference is that O’Keefe also posted the entire episode, which is more that the networks do.”

And: “When’s the last time a MSM news organization put its full, unedited video footage of an O’Keefe-style undercover videotaping online? Or, heck, the full, unedited video footage of one of its interviews?”

THEY TOLD ME IF I VOTED REPUBLICAN, IDIOTIC DRUG WARRIORS WOULD BE SHUTTING DOWN RAVES USING ANY PRETEXT: And they were right! “District Attorney Kari Brandenburg says something needs to change when it comes to illegal raves in Albuquerque. KOB Eyewitness News 4 has learned she wants to create a law, putting more accountability on rave promoters. She says raves need to be legal and held in a safe environment.”
