JAMES PETHOKOUKIS: How The Greek Debt Crisis Could Save America. “America doesn’t need a domestic debt crisis. Voters can easily track the one happening with Greece and the EU. Runaway spending. Overpaid civil servants. A loss of confidence. Trillion-dollar bailouts. Falling standards of living. National decline. That all adds up to a pretty compelling case for action in America. And Republicans (along with fiscally responsible Democrats) who want to see true spending reform — of the sort outlined in Rep. Paul Ryan’s Roadmap for America — would do well to frequently mention Greece on the campaign trail. Kind of a ‘don’t let this happen to us’ sort of thing. They should also note that lower spending plus smart tax cuts to boost growth are the best recipe for restoring fiscal order — not massive tax increases which politicians will only divert to more spending.”

THE ANCHORESS ON TOM FRIEDMAN: “Every murderous totalitarian government of the 20th century began with some insulated group of faux-intellectuals congratulating each other on how smart they are, and fantasizing about how, if they could just install a dictatorship-for-a-day, they could right all the wrongs in the world. It is the ultimate fantasy of the narcissist. And we’ve got whole generations of them, in control of our media and our government, all intent on ‘remaking America.'”

FROM JACOB SULLUM, AN IMPORTANT MEDIA MATTERS CORRECTION: Obama Is Not Beholden to Big Corporations. He Is Beholden to the Executives of Big Corporations. So there. Plus this: “The next time a Republican is accused of being excessively cozy with a major corporation, I’m sure MMA will pedantically respond that, in point of fact, Sen. Moneybags has never received a dime from that company, since all the donations came from its employees.”

Plus, from the comments: “I’m glad to see that Media Matters is coming around to the free speech point of view expressed by the majority in Citizens United v. FEC!”

DEVAL PATRICK: Opposing Obama is seditious. They told me if I voted for . . . Oh, hell, this is getting too easy.
