MORE ON THE KINDLE SCANDAL: “Now, that we’ve discovered that Amazon can remotely and automatically delete your books without your knowledge or consent, what’s to stop Amazon, some other company, or the government from not merely deleting it, but replacing it with an edited version? Nothing.” This is, I’m afraid, inherent in any e-book system with centralized control.

BYRON YORK: Voters scared of Obama’s rushed ‘experiments’.
REP. TOM PERRIELLO sics the cops on Tea Party protesters? Oh, Tom, you really don’t want to do that . . . .
THEY TOLD ME THAT IF OBAMA WERE PRESIDENT, people would be arrested for making racial remarks. And they were right! Son of Police Detective Sues New Rochelle PD Following Arrest for using Dave Chappelle’s “White Person” Voice.
HEALTH CARE TOWN HALL GOES BADLY FOR RUSS CARNAHAN thanks to Tea Party efforts. More evidence of the Jim Geraghty act-locally principle at work . . . .
A GPS UNIT JUST FOR GOLF? Sure, why not?
UPDATE: Reader Steve Cooper writes: ‘Have been using the Sky Caddie for some time and it is a very handy device. They have over 14,000 courses compared to 12,000 for the Izzo. Is it worth twice as much? Probably not. It sure beats having to tell your significant other how far away you are for EVERY shot!” This is a whole new world for me.
WHAT RON PAUL IS GOOD FOR:
You might have thought that the Information Age would have allowed for decentralization of power. Quite the opposite. The country is being emptied of value by our “political class”, the very existence of which is antithetical to what “We the People”
areshould be about.Seen from the standpoint where the US is a tub, power is water, and Washington, DC is the drain, Ron Paul is quite valuable as a rubber ducky for tracking the drainage.
I confess that metaphor had never occurred to me.
FIRST IT WAS THE POST, NOW IT’S THE NATIONAL JOURNAL?
Providing a private, limited-access only platform for lawmakers and lobbyists to mingle didn’t work out well for The Washington Post, but that hasn’t dissuaded officials with National Journal from taking what appears to be a similar route, but with a unique twist. Instead of the intimate setting of Post Publisher Katharine Weymouth’s home, National Journal is creating a private web site for Members of Congress and their staff. Taxpayers are not invited. Lobbyists and others seeking to influence Congress will be able to buy their way onto the site via advocacy advertising.
All these cushy insider-y things all of a sudden. You know, I’m beginning to wonder if some corporate group was really behind JournoList. . . .
Plus, “Need to lobby? Got $295,000? You can be 3121’s ‘Premier Promotional’ Sponsor.” (Bumped, because I wonder just how much paid insider-footsie is going on among the DC media and those they cover.)
CIVIL RIGHTS PROGRESS? Democrats Fear Defections on GOP Gun Proposal. “Senate Democrats are scrambling to defeat a Republican-backed provision that would allow gun owners to carry their weapons across state lines, overriding the stricter laws of many jurisdictions and giving preference to states with looser standards.”
FROM BILL WHITTLE, a really nice look at commercial space efforts.
YES, HOT AIR AND MICHELLEMALKIN.COM ARE BOTH DOWN. They say they’re working on it.
WILLIAM MCGURN: Let’s Face It: Obama Is No Post-Partisan.
Only last summer we were told that Barack Obama’s political appeal rested on his vision for a “post-partisan future.” The post-partisan future was one of the press corps’ favorite phrases. It served as shorthand for the candidate’s repeated references to “unity of purpose,” looking beyond a red or blue America, and so on.
Six months into the president’s term, you don’t read much about this post-partisan future anymore. It may be because on almost every big-ticket legislative item (the stimulus, climate change, and now health care), Mr. Obama has been pushing a highly ideological agenda with little (and in some cases zero) support from across the aisle. Yet far from stating the obvious—that sitting in the Oval Office is a very partisan president—the press corps is allowing Mr. Obama to evade the issue by coming up with novel redefinitions.
It’s almost like they’re covering for him or something. Related item here.
HEH: Obama Is Hiding The Latest Budget Report At An Undisclosed Location. But is it secure? Or will something leak out?
But Megan McArdle writes: “Sometimes a delay in the mid-session budget review is just a delay in the mid-session budget review.”
GALLUP POLL: LESS FAITH IN OBAMA’S ECONOMIC ABILITIES. But that’s just on the issues, right? His overall approval is still high, isn’t it?
Er, not so much: “His overall approval rating was 55%, the lowest of his young presidency. That puts Obama 10th among the 12 post-World War II presidents at this point in their tenures.”

A TEA PARTY APOLOGY FROM CLAIRE MCCASKILL. “I still regret the way we handled the protest, and hope that all those that want to express themselves feel free to protest peacefully at our office anytime. We will make every effort to meet with your representatives and hear your concerns. While we did talk to 7 folks on Friday, I wish we could have greeted everyone at the beginning and brought part of the group in for a meeting right away. I think we learned from Friday and will do better in the future. In return I hope those that are protesting refrain from banging on the windows and doors continuously. Thanks so much.”
MEGAN MCARDLE: “Four years before I was born, man walked on the moon for the first time, the most magnificent single feat our little tribe of East African Plains Apes has ever managed. Now we don’t even do that. What happened to the dream? Government mismanagement, yes, but something more than that, too, some failure of imagination and will.”
