JENNIFER RUBIN: The Mommy Wars, Sarah Palin Edition.

UPDATE: On an entirely different note, reader Harvard Fong emails:

Could you post something like this:

All together now, the capitol of Alaska is Juneau, not Anchorage.

I keep seeing this pop up in all kinds of blogs/columns.

Consider it done! Er, because it is.

AN INSTA-POLL on how things are going for the G.O.P.:

How have the Republicans done so far this week?
Very well
Okay
So-so
Not so good
Lousy

SOMEBODY TELL CASS SUNSTEIN: Just as some right-leaning bloggers have been exploding bogus rumors about Obama, Hilzoy at Obsidian Wings is refuting stories that Sarah Palin belonged to the Alaska Independence Party.

STOP THE INSANITY: Got this email from a former student:

I’m a former student from way back when, and I wanted to drop a line to let you know how much I’m enjoying your coverage of the convention. I’ve voted Democrat since I turned 18 in 1992, but this year has thrown me for a loop. I’m baffled by my party’s nominee and exasperated with the rampant sexism exhibited by the media and my fellow Dems, from the top down. Unfortunately, there’s nowhere else to go for someone who believes strongly in reproductive freedoms. The irony of being beaten over the head with my own vagina (so to speak) by my party doesn’t escape me, though, and sometimes I find solace in peeking in on the other side. Your blog is my favorite peephole these days.

Well, good.

UPDATE: Michael Silence asks: “What is it with the MSM and female candidates?” Er, Michael, you work for the MSM. . .

And read this on the subject from Clive Crook.

MEGAN MCARDLE IS BACK, with posts on Sarah Palin (“On Sarah Palin as a VP I have no particular opinion, except that she doesn’t make me any more interested in voting for John McCain. But the people criticizing her are making me considerably less interested in voting for Obama. “) and the questionable effectiveness of both abstinence education and traditional sex ed (“In the 1950s, such programs undoubtedly would have been very effective. But these days, a kid who wants to get hold of birth control is very, very unlikely to be unaware where babies come from, or where they keep the birth control.”)

JUST A REMINDER that Virginia Postrel is blogging over at DeepGlamour.net as well as at her usual place.

THE BEST PARTY I’VE EVER ATTENDED: Was at Lileks’ place last night. I met the Giant Swede, chatted with Lileks about MST3K while admiring the Jasperwood Water Feature, met Gnat, listened to John Ondrasik perform, and met a wide variety of bloggers that I had previously known only in electronic form. Awesome. I have to head home today, but I’ve had a lot of fun.

THOUGHTS ON SARAH PALIN AND THE MEDIA, at The New Republic.

RUDY GIULIANI ON whether Barack Obama is experienced enough.

RICK MORAN: G.O.P. Disrespecting Bloggers. Stephen Green and I interviewed some folks on this yesterday, for a segment that’ll be up on PJTV today, and we heard similar complaints, along with the comments that it was much better in Denver at the DNC, and much better at the RNC in 2004.

THE LOG CABIN REPUBLICANS have endorsed John McCain. Well, he’s brought us the new gay-friendly Republican Party. No, really.

HOW THEY COULD HAVE KEPT THE PALIN PREGNANCY STORY OUT OF THE PRESS: Leaked it that John Edwards was the father . . . ..

MORE STORM AND HURRICANE NEWS, from Brendan Loy.

SEXISM IN THE MEDIA: Hillary was right. Ouch.

PAJAMAS TV will be streaming live in just a bit, and I’ll be on shortly afterward. Ron Silver will be on early in the hour. Check it out.

THREE ANCIENT TALES of unwed pregnancy.

Plus, some related thoughts from Katie Granju. And some thoughts for parents of teenagers.

Reader Jean Tuttle, meanwhile, emails: “Next time you see a Rep. person tell them since Obama is so focused on Gov.Palin she should offer to debate him. Why should she waste time with Biden since only she and Obama seem to be running for the presidency at the moment?” Well, I’ll probably run into a Republican person somewhere around this convention. . . .

UPDATE: Reader Michael Wenberg writes:

As dad to a seventeen-year-old daughter who just gave birth to a baby, I want to throw my two cents into the mix for adoption. Teen moms can certainly do what they want, but I’m concerned that recent high profile teen pregnancies (Gov. Palin’s daughter, Jamie Lynn Spears) seem to overemphasize teens keeping their baby. As dad to three great kids who became ours via adoption instead of the byproduct of my wife and I fooling around, I want to say that adoption isn’t a second or even third option, but a “great” option for young teen moms. I can speak firsthand to adoption from both sides of the coin, and there are very real emotional consequences to entrusting your child (or grandchild) to someone else, but for us and many, many others, it was and is a wonderful choice for that baby. . .that’s the often overlooked component in all of this. . . .what’s the best choice for the baby, not what will make the adults “feel” better right at the moment.

Good point.
