Obviously, the solution is to reduce the global warming “offset,” amirite?

FALLEN ANGELS WAS JUST A SCIENCE FICTION NOVEL, RIGHT GUYS? RIGHT? GUYS? “Britain faces FREEZING winters as slump in solar activity threatens ‘little Ice Age.'”

A couple of years ago, someone astutely mashed up video of the late climate scientist (read socialist political activist) Dr. Stephen Schneider appearing on Leonard Nimoy’s old In Search Of series in 1978 to scare the bejesus out of Nimoy’s viewers by forecasting intense global cooling, followed by a shot of Schneider in 2008 scaring viewers by forecasting intense global warming. (Peter Gwynne, who wrote Newsweek’s 1975 article on global cooling and in recent years recanted his story of arctic doom was similarly called out last year by Breitbart’com’s James Delingpole.) I wonder if we’ll able to do a triple-play if this latest round of global cooling speculation continues?

Earth should be nearing another frosty period — with a year-to-year expansion of polar and mountaintop ice. But that is not happening. And the reason seems to be a growing buildup of chemicals that warm the atmosphere, the so-called greenhouse gases. Chief among them: carbon dioxide, better known as CO2. . . . ‘Most probably, the next glaciation should have already started,’ says coauthor Paul Renne. He is a geoscientist at the Berkeley Geochronology Center in California. (Geo means of or relating to the Earth. Chronology refers to the order and timing of past events.) ‘We are experiencing a climate that has been modified by human activity,’ Renne says.”

So should we regard the discovery of massive new stores of fossil fuels via fracking at this very point as some sort of Divine Providence? . . .

Return of Arctic ice cap as it grows by 29% in a year. “A chilly Arctic summer has left 533,000 more square miles of ocean covered with ice than at the same time last year – an increase of 29 per cent. The rebound from 2012’s record low comes six years after the BBC reported that global warming would leave the Arctic ice-free in summer by 2013. Instead, days before the annual autumn re-freeze is due to begin, an unbroken ice sheet more than half the size of Europe already stretches from the Canadian islands to Russia’s northern shores.”

UM, FALLEN ANGELS WAS JUST A SCIENCE FICTION STORY, RIGHT GUYS? RIGHT? The Sun That Did Not Roar.

This is the height of the 11-year solar cycle, the so-called solar maximum. The face of the Sun should be pockmarked with sunspots, and cataclysmic explosions of X-rays and particles should be whizzing off every which way.

Instead, the Sun has been tranquil, almost spotless.

As W. Dean Pesnell, the project scientist for NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory, dryly noted, “We’re not having much of a solar maximum.”

A week ago, a solitary sunspot blemished an otherwise blank yellow disk. In the ensuing days, a few more specks appeared, but even a small explosion, or coronal mass ejection, last Thursday seemed like the halfhearted effort of a slacker star.

“The truth of it is there isn’t a lot going on,” said Joseph M. Kunches, a space scientist at the Space Weather Prediction Center. “It’s been a bit of a dud. You look at the Sun today and you say, ‘What?’”

Are we heading for another Maunder Minimum?
