PUNCH BACK TWICE AS HARD: NRA to Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel: ‘You were the one that didn’t protect these children.’

The National Rifle Association hit back on Friday at Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel after accused NRA spokeswoman Dana Loesch of “not standing up” for the survivors of the school shooting that took place last week in Parkland, Fla.

“No Sheriff Israel you were the one that didn’t PROTECT these children and that is your job. You run the largest fully accredited sheriff’s office in the United States, yet your office failed this community,” the NRA said from its verified Twitter account.

It didn’t just fail. It failed disgracefully, then tried to shift the blame.

ANOTHER UPDATE: Reader John Steakley emails: “I was assured that my white privilege meant that the police would always rush to my aid.”

THAT’S BECAUSE THOSE 4 BROWARD COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPUTIES ARE PATHETIC LOSERS WHO MAKE LAW ENFORCEMENT LOOK BAD. LIKE THEIR BOSS, SHERIFF SCOTT ISRAEL DOES. Sources: Coral Springs police upset at some Broward deputies for not entering school.

You don’t need guns, they told me. Civilized people know the police will protect them, they told me. Anything else is just gun crazy paranoia, they said.

Plus: “The resentment among Coral Springs officials toward Broward County officials about what they perceived to be a dereliction of duty may have reached a boiling point at a vigil the night of February 15, where, in front of dozens of others, Coral Springs City Manager Mike Goodrum confronted Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel. A source familiar with the conversation tells CNN that Goodrum was upset that the Broward deputies had remained outside the school while kids inside could have been bleeding out, among other reasons.”

Note that this was before CNN’s shameful “Town Hall,” but CNN either didn’t have a clue, or was happy not to share the news with its viewers while giving that contemptible weasel, Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel, a platform to posture and blame others.

But then, CNN is to journalism what those Broward deputies are to law enforcement: A contemptible example of failure. After that “Town Hall,” CNN needs to do a primetime mea culpa and apology. It won’t.

WHEN BROWARD COUNTY SHERIFF SCOTT ISRAEL WAS ACCUSED OF CORRUPTION, HE RESPONDED: ‘LIONS DON’T CARE ABOUT THE OPINIONS OF SHEEP.’ “Asked about the allegations, Israel responded, ‘What have I done differently than Don Shula or Abraham Lincoln or Martin Luther King, Ghandi?’…Given the appalling failures that took place at Israel’s office, the ‘sheep’ might like to ask the ‘lion’ some questions. Perhaps he could answer them in a less condescending and authoritarian fashion.”

CAN THE BROWARD COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT GET ANY MORE SAD AND USELESS AND PATHETIC? YES, YES IT CAN. Sheriff: Armed officer at school never entered building during shooting.

Two thoughts: (1). So much for “only the police should have guns.” (2). If an armed teacher had had a gun, he/she would have already been in the building. So even if he/she was as big a coward as this officer, he/she might have still done something.

Oh, and (3): Now we see why the Broward Sheriff has been so eager to blame the NRA instead of his pathetic department.

Plus, this question: “When does the incompetent sheriff resign?”

And a friend on Facebook comments:

Let’s get this straight: the FBI failed to follow its own procedure when warned of the Florida school killer, which might have prevented the massacre; and now we learn that the armed sheriff’s deputy assigned to the school failed to execute his duty, which also might have prevented the massacre.

It should be no wonder Americans don’t trust their institutions — nor that they want the ability to protect themselves when those institutions show themselves incompetent to do the job. Instead of new laws and procedures administered by these same inept bureaucracies, either reform those bureaucracies and their personnel to enforce the existing laws, or allow American citizens to do for themselves what the institutions do not.

The present political moment for gun control will shortly fade without having achieved its major objectives, as all its predecessors have. The reason it will fail is not the NRA nor its money: it’s this.

Indeed. Or as another friend notes: “Government failed repeatedly and catastrophically at all levels. And the solution is more government?”

UPDATE: FIRE THE SHERIFF: Coral Springs police officers — and not Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies — were the first ones to try to help save students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

WHO NEEDS DISCIPLINE? Did the Progressive ‘Broward County Solution’ Cost 17 Student Lives? “Broward County used to lead the state of Florida in sending students to the state’s juvenile justice system. County leaders responded with a perfectly progressive solution: ‘lower arrests by not making arrests.’ . . . One particular motivation behind programs like Broward County’s was the pressure from multiple sources to reduce the statistical disparity between black and Hispanic student arrests on one hand and white and Asian student arrests on the other.”

Plus: “By virtue of his name alone, Nikolas de Jesús Cruz, the adopted son of Lynda and Roger Cruz, became a statistical Hispanic. As such, authorities at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland had every reason not to report his troubling and likely criminal behavior to the police.”

COULDN’T HAVE HAPPENED TO A NICER SCUMBAG: Florida’s Supreme Court denies former Broward Sheriff Israel’s case. “Florida’s highest court agreed that Gov. Ron DeSantis was within his authority to suspend Scott Israel as Broward County sheriff earlier this year. The justices noted that under the Florida Constitution, the state Senate is responsible for deciding whether the removal should be permanent.”

Kids died because he sucks. Then he blamed the NRA. He didn’t want the trial before the Senate because it will make the depths of his scumbaggery highly apparent.

REALCLEARINVESTIGATIONS: The Sheriff, the Sheriff’s Son, and the ‘Coward of Broward.’ “Parents of children gunned down in the Parkland school shooting in Florida last year have never understood two actions taken by Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel: his refusal to fire a campus-based deputy who failed to enter the school during the rampage that took 17 lives, and his continued defense of controversial Obama-era school policies that allowed the  accused shooter, Nikolas Cruz, to avoid arrest and a police record and thereby purchase the murder weapon. Some now think they have found the answer in a single incident that occurred in 2014. A police report shows that’s when Israel’s then-17-year-old son, Brett, was accused of participating in a sexual assault of a 14-year-old boy at Marjory Stoneman Douglas  High School. The case was investigated by Scot Peterson — the armed deputy who took cover while children and staff were shot last February. Using the Obama-era guidelines, Peterson’s recommendation helped his boss’s son receive just a three-day suspension.”

THE BROWARD SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT IS LOOKING KINDA LIKE A SHITHOLE: REPORT: Deputy Peterson Accused Of ‘Covering Up’ Alleged Sexual Assault By Broward Sheriff’s Son. “A local Miami news station released an explosive report on Thursday night about a ‘disturbing assault’ that happened at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School four years to the day before the tragic shooting in February. The alleged incident involved one of the sons of Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel and was allegedly ‘covered up’ by Officer Scot Peterson, the resource officer who infamously failed to confront the Parkland shooter.”

MORE DEEP-DIVING FROM REALCLEARINVESTIGATIONS: Broward School Violence: Cruz’s Massacre Is Far From the Full Story.

Broward County, Fla., school officials portray as a great success their Obama administration-inspired program offering counseling to students who break the law, instead of having them arrested or expelled. They insist that it played no role in February’s school massacre by Nikolas Cruz. They also claim that in fact juvenile recidivism rates are down and school safety is up, thanks to the program.

The evidence tells a far different story.

Broward County juvenile justice division records, federal studies of Broward school district safety and the district’s own internal reporting show that years of “intensive” counseling didn’t just fail to reform repeat offender Cruz, who allegedly went on to shoot and kill 17 people at his high school. Records show such policies have failed to curtail other campus violence and its effects now on the rise in district schools — including fighting, weapons use, bullying and related suicides.

Meanwhile, murders, armed robberies and other violent felonies committed by children outside of schools have hit record levels, and some see a connection with what’s happening on school grounds. Since the relaxing of discipline, Broward youths have not only brazenly punched out their teachers, but terrorized Broward neighborhoods with drive-by shootings, gang rapes, home invasions and carjackings.

But the policy makes the schools’ numbers look good, which is all they care about.

SHE WASN’T UP TO HER JOB: Broward sheriff’s captain who gave initial order to ‘stage’ not enter Stoneman Douglas is ID’d. “The Broward County Sheriff’s Office has identified to Fox News the captain who, according to sources, directed responding deputies and units to ‘stage’ or form a ‘perimeter’ outside Stoneman Douglas High School, instead of rushing immediately into the building, as the mass shooting unfolded there.”

PRIORITIES: FHP arrest man accused of using spray paint to cover up pro-Palestinian graffiti on I-95.

According to the arrest report, on Jan. 2, Florida Highway Patrol Troopers were dispatched to the scene on Interstate-95, near Marina Mile Boulevard, after receiving reports of “possible vandalism.”

Once at the scene, troopers found Maimon holding a spray paint can. A trooper then pulled out a taser and ordered Maimon to put the can down.

According to Maimon, he told troopers that he is from Israel and was trying to cover up the pro-Palestinian messages.

“I have family in Israel. I don’t like to see it,” he said. “It is a terrorist organization. They kidnap and kill people every day.”

Maimon painted over the words with gray spray paint, which he thought was the same color as the wall.

After FHP arrived, he was then cuffed, book and taken to the Broward County jail were he spent nine hours.

“They put the handcuff on my leg and on my hand,” Maimon said. “Then they asked me questions and I tell them I just covered the ‘Free Palestine,’ like nothing wrong, just ‘Free the Palestine,’ and they took me to the jail.”

Maimon’s boss, Eran Hazan, said that the troopers actions towards his employee were “very unfair” and humiliating. He said they should have given him a warning because Maimon wasn’t causing extra damage and was using the gray spray paint to match the rest of the wall.

Both Maimon and Hazan work at an organization called Yedidim USA, which does charity work in the South Florida Jewish community. The organization fed first responders after the Surfside collapse condo in 2021 and has sent humanitarian aid to Israel during its war with Hamas.

“Yoni has been working at our organization for four and a half years. This guy is an angel,” Hazan said. “He helps out families from the moment he wakes up in the morning until he goes to sleep.”

No arrests seem to have been made for the actual graffiti.

HMM: Lawsuit Blames Tesla Model S’s Retractable Door Handles for Man’s Death. “A wrongful death lawsuit was filed in state court in Broward County, Florida, on October 10 claims that Awan was burned beyond recognition ‘because the Model S has inaccessible door handles, no other way to open the doors, and an unreasonably dangerous fire risk.'” The retractable door handles are on the outside; it’s not clear what they could have to do with being trapped on the inside of the car. But this story says it was that the police couldn’t get the doors open from the outside.

THE MOST HATED MAN IN FLORIDA? ‘Mr. Israel Cannot Get His Job Back,’ Several Families Of Parkland Victims Send Message To Florida Senators.

The parents of Alex Schachter, Alyssa Alhadeff, Nick Dworet, Meadow Pollack, Jaime Guttenberg and Joaquin Oliver said that Israel failed before the Parkland shooting, in terms of training and staffing the Parkland district, during the shooting, as gauged by the response of a handful of BSO deputies and after the shooting in terms of changes made at the agency.

Guttenberg said Scott Israel’s attempt to return to his former position as Broward County Sheriff is a slap in the face to the victim’s families.

“The former Sheriff of this county has made himself a victim of the Parkland shooting,” Guttenberg said. “No. The people who died are the victims. He wants his money back. And you know what, he doesn’t deserve it. He failed.”

DANA LOESCH: Why Red Flag Laws Are Not A Good Solution To Mass Shootings.

The murderers in Parkland, Florida and Dayton, Ohio, are two recent examples. These two monsters were walking red flags with access to firearms and yet, with all of the laws available to adjudicate them ineligible to carry or purchase guns, they continued unabated until the unthinkable. They weren’t stopped.

In fact, the Parkland murderer was coddled by a school district that pretended a refusal to report crime (thereby suppressing their criminal statistics) was the same thing as reducing crime, and they received federal dollars for it. That murderer’s violent behavior (beating his adoptive mother, sending death threats to fellow students, and putting a gun to another person’s head, to list a few offenses) was so well known, teachers had a backup plan in case he decided to become threatening, and he was searched every morning after arriving at school.

We didn’t need red flag laws to get either of these individuals before they committed their crimes. According to numerous local reports, had the previous Broward County sheriff performed his duties, case number 18-1958 would not have been able to legally purchase the rifle he used to carry out his evil. From everything reported on the Dayton murderer, it seems barring him from legal purchase or possession of firearms by adjudicating him mentally unfit was entirely possible.

The point of red flag laws isn’t to protect the innocent, but to cast suspicion on anyone exercising their Second Amendment rights.
