PLEASE SUPPORT HELEN’S PAGE ADVERTISERS: Korving & Company, author of Before I Go and Before I Go Workbook; The Hard Man Novels and Greek Biblical T-shirts.

UPDATE: Reader Taleena emails a good review for the Biblical Greek coffee mugs: I purchased some large size coffee mugs from BiblicalGreekTshirt.com for the ladies in my Bible study group. …What a joy to receive these high quality mugs, with the Greek we are studying on one side and our favorite verses on the other! I was impressed that we could choose whatever New Testament Verse we wanted, rather than the “greatest hits” typically found on Christian items. The company communicated during the entire creation and shipping process, delivered on time in a well packaged shipping box. I highly endorse this company, and was very pleased to have found them through Instapundit. (Bumped)

HELEN TRIED IT: There is a book listed at Helen’s Page that I read a while back called Before I Go: Preparing Your Affairs for Your Heirs. I have it sitting on one of my bookshelves and have used it from time to time to help me update a list of important information in case someone in my family needs it. It is not a very uplifting topic but the book is really good at helping you organize your financial and important documents to help your family in case you become sick or die. Though I don’t recommend the topic, I do think the book is worth a read if you ever wondered what kinds of things like bills, insurance, finances etc. your family needs to know about if something does happen to you. UPDATE: For those of you who are interested, there is also an accompanying workbook called Before I Go Workbook. (Bumped)

GLENN TRIES IT: So I bought Glenn a bottle of the men’s shaving soap from Old Post Road Oils that has a listing at Helen’s Page. It showed up by USPS a few days later and I gave it to him. He read the instructions, used it for a few days and pronounced it “the best shave I have ever had.” His face is smooth and the soap smells amazing. It comes in Sandalwood and Bay Rum which sounds awesome too. The soap had been sold out thanks to all of you buying it but is now back in stock and you can also get the men’s set which comes with the soap and shaving oil together. The shaving oil will probably be my next purchase for Glenn.

UPDATE: The Bay Rum shaving soap now in stock here. (Bumped)

AT HELEN’S PAGE : Why hire the skinny inspector?

A POSITIVE EXPERIENCE WITH HELEN’S PAGE: From Doug who sold his sailboat:

Thanks for setting up Helen’s Page. I advertised my 30′ Sailboat and had a deposit from an interested buyer within 24 hours of posting the listing. Now, after only 4 days I have a check in the bank and the sailboat has a new owner!

When I bought this sailboat 6 years ago, the previous owner had it listed for several months. He told me that most responses he received to his ad on another online marketplace were either not serious inquiries or outright scammers. It was a really frustrating process for him to find a buyer.

Trust and a sense of community are the elements that make commerce work between people who don’t already know each other. Thanks for bringing that back and reinvigorating my faith in what makes a market!

HELEN TRIES IT: So I got a bunch of samples from the New Genesis / Monticello Drug Company who has several listings at Helen’s Page for various products. One of the sample products was Heet, which is “a powerful pain relieving liniment and topical analgesic used for the temporary relief of minor aches and pains of muscles strains, bruises, arthritis, backache, and sprains.” It came in handy today when I was at a barre class and pulled a back muscle. I came home, put this stuff on and was surprised that it worked. The pain is almost gone and I have to say, I was skeptical. It’s great stuff! You can get Heet directly here.

Another sample was these throat discs which “melt in your mouth providing relief from throat irritation, dry mouth, phlegm, and hoarseness, and will improve the clarity of your voice.” I gave one to Glenn and tried one myself. They are a very refreshing and taste like licorice and do melt in your mouth and provide relief from a scratchy or sore throat. Glenn thought they would be helpful when he is teaching a lot which causes voice strain. If you talk for a living, they are certainly worth a try. I like how small they are and how easy to pop one in your mouth. You can find them here.

AT HELEN’S PAGE: With Mother’s Day coming up soon, go visit Hunt Country Jewelers. From a reviewer at Helen’s Page: “Great service and fast shipping to Texas. I found the perfect gift on their site and they were a pleasure to deal with. Carolyn Cutshall kept me well informed on my purchase and I received it the next day. Will definitely buy from them again.”

HELEN TRIES IT: I just got Bill and Teresa Peschel’s book Career Indie Author: Tell Your Stories and Build a Business That Will Last a Lifetime in the mail and started reading right away. It is a very straightforward and easy read if you want to write and self-publish a first book (or fifth) and understand quickly how to set up a business plan (it’s one page!), pay your taxes and even advertise your work. There is even a good section on how to make up a mailing list that came in handy for Helen’s page. If you are an aspiring writer or a seasoned one, check out the book, it’s informative and worth your time. (Bumped)
