“The most important thing we are going to see is a meeting, a pull-aside meeting with President Trump and party chair Xi in Korea toward the end of the month,” Bessent said.
Bessent underscored the importance of the two leaders’ in-person engagement, adding, “What gives us great comfort is the respect that the two leaders have for each other. So it will be helpful for them to be able to speak in person and set the framework for trade going forward.”
Bessent expressed optimism for his own parallel trade talks with China’s Vice Premier He Lifeng. “I think with President Trump’s leadership and his relationship, the respect party chair Xi has for him, that this round, which would be our fifth round of talks, should show a pretty big breakthrough,” he said.
Trump posted Wednesday on his Truth Social platform that his priority at the upcoming talks will be soybeans, as China has stopped buying the product grown in the U.S. over the last several months.

HMM: F-117s Spotted While Refueling from KC-46.
The photos were shared on X by freelance news photojournalist Matt Hartman, who kindly allowed us to include them in this article. These are possibly the first photos of the KC-46 refueling the F-117 since the announcement of the certification effort.
In fact, as we reported in September 2024 here at The Aviationist, the U. S. Air Force was planning to certify the F-117A Nighthawk to be able to refuel from the KC-46A Pegasus. Although the F-117 was officially retired in 2008, the stealth jet continued to fly unofficially from Tonopah Test Range (TTR) airfield in Nevada, and the service’s current plan is to keep the aircraft flying at least until 2034.
This is far from the first time that the “retired” attack jets have been spotted in the air.

Numbers out Wednesday continued to show a softening jobs market. Private payrolls declined by 32,000 in September, according to ADP. Economists polled by Dow Jones expected an increase of 45,000. August payrolls were also revised to show a loss of 3,000, reversing initial data that showed a 54,000 increase.

EVERYTHING IS RACISM: Physical design of universities alienates marginalized students.
The design aesthetics of American institutions of higher education often make students from lower-socioeconomic and racially minoritized backgrounds feel like outsiders on their own campuses, claimed a group of scholars in a recent article published in the Educational Psychology Review.
“Many institutions of higher education were created by and for wealthy White men, to educate ‘young men of good hope’ for careers in law, medicine, and other high-status professions,” the scholars wrote.
“Today, intentionally or not, American institutions of higher education continue to serve the interests of wealthy White people and they have done little to dismantle socioeconomic and racial inequity.”
Together, they argued, these feelings of being an outsider are downstream of the “exclusionary function” of public spaces like parks and libraries on college campuses.
American universities are designed as “defensible spaces” that “undermine inclusion and perpetuate inequities” through territoriality, surveillance, and symbolism, the scholars noted.
The professionally neurotic have to earn those grant dollars somehow.
