SCENES FROM A SANCTUARY STATE: More than 1,500 aliens with ICE detainers released from the Orange County Jail in 2019, many re-offended. “U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Acting Director Matthew T. Albence has repeatedly expressed concerns about how state or local policies limiting cooperation with ICE can lead to more crime. According to data recently released from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, in the two years since the implementation of California’s State Bill 54 (SB54), the sheriff’s department has rearrested more than 400 of those they released on whom ICE had active detainers. The aliens who were rearrested include those with charges including: rape, assault with a deadly weapon, child sex offenses, domestic violence, identify theft, and driving under the influence.”

Government’s job is to make the right people feel good, not to keep everyone else safe from rapists who shouldn’t even be in the country.

SHE HAS ANGER MANAGEMENT ISSUES: Pelosi unloads on Trump in private meeting after SOTU standoff.

Pelosi, addressing her caucus Wednesday morning, said she felt “liberated” after defiantly ripping up Trump’s speech for the world to see, tearing up each page as she stood behind the president after he concluded his annual address.

“He shredded the truth, so I shredded his speech,” Pelosi told House Democrats, according to multiple sources in the room. “What we heard last night was a disgrace.”

Democrats gave Pelosi a standing ovation after she concluded her remarks, coming just hours before the Senate will vote to acquit Trump in his impeachment trial.

A standing ovation for a pre-planned public temper tantrum? Classy.

UPDATE (FROM GLENN): Pelosi keeps saying that Trump’s speech was full of lies, and that not one word was true. So the tremendous economic growth didn’t happen? Black workers aren’t doing better? The bottom quartile hasn’t progressed faster than the top 1%? Gen. McGee wasn’t really a Tuskeegee Airman? If you’re going to denounce lies, maybe name one? If we had an actual press, maybe someone would ask her about that.

BUT THE COMPANY IS CONNECTED TO ALL THE RIGHT PEOPLE: An ‘Off-the-Shelf, Skeleton Project’: Experts Analyze the App That Broke Iowa.

Motherboard asked six cybersecurity and app development experts we trust to analyze the app. The app was built on top of React Native, an open-source app development package released by Facebook that can be used for both Android and iOS apps, according to Kasra Rahjerdi, who has been an Android developer since the original Android project was launched, and Robert Baptise, a white-hat hacker who has exposed security flaws in many popular apps and reviewed the code. Rahjerdi said that the app contains default React Native metadata and that it comes off as a “very very off the shelf skeleton project plus add your own code kind of thing.”

“Honestly, the biggest thing is—I don’t want to throw it under the bus—but the app was clearly done by someone following a tutorial. It’s similar to projects I do with my mentees who are learning how to code,” Rahjerdi said. “They started with a starter package and they just added things on top of it. I get deja vu from my classes because the code looks like someone Googled things like ‘how to add authentication to React Native App’ and followed the instructions,” Rahjerdi said.

“The mobile app looks hastily thrown together,” Dan Guido, CEO of cybersecurity consulting firm Trail of Bits, told Motherboard.

Heads should roll, but they’ll circle the wagons instead.

KRUISER’S MORNING BRIEF: Hey Democrats — Cocaine Mitch Is ‘Judging’ You. “With almost blinding speed, McConnell filled the Senate schedule with confirmation votes for more judges. It was a brutal and most effective gesture, letting Nancy ‘Rip the Transcript’ Pelosi and the rest of the Democrats know that their stunt had fallen flat.”

Cocaine Mitch, what is best in life?

CHRISTIAN TOTO: Letterboxd Bans Black Libertarian Film Critic’s Reviews.

The Libertarian film critic oversees Society Reviews. The web site critiques movies from an unabashedly right-of-center perspective. Smith also shares hundreds of his film reviews with the popular social media site Letterboxd.com.

Or, at least he did.

The service allows folks who may not have their own media outlet a chance to share reviews with the public.

Smith recently got booted from Letterboxd.com, which removed all of his reviews without notice. HiT reached out to Smith to find out the story behind the purge.

FOR OUR PJMEDIA/TOWNHALL VIP MEMBERS: Donald Trump and the Dog That Didn’t Bark.

The way I figured it in the intro to my SOTU drunkblog was that on impeachment and Iowa, Trump could go one of three ways:

• Politely ignore it.

• Dismiss its importance with a polite, humorous jab.

• Go for the jugular.

Going for the jugular would have meant rubbing the Dems’ noses in their own mess like the bad puppies they are. For Republicans it would have been like throwing entire strip steaks into a crowd of keto dieters who hadn’t eaten all day. It would have been very much like Trump to do such a thing… but at SOTU? The red meat would have been tasty, but also a lot like eating it with your hands at a fine restaurant.

A humorous jab might could have been perfectly acceptable in the context of SOTU, especially if done in a “let’s put this all behind us” way. But given the enormity of impeachment, and the still-ongoing slow-motion train wreck in Iowa, “let’s put this all behind us” wouldn’t have been right, either.

But to ignore both issues… that was the tell of how Trump gauges his political strength right now.

The whole thing is just for members, but as I hope you know by now that VODKAPUNDIT promo code gets you a nice little discount.

SAD! ‘Joe Biden Is Not Viable’: How Nancy Pelosi Scuppered ‘Obama’s Third Term.’

Right now he’s looking like the Democratic Party’s Jeb! Bush

Rather than just boring audiences to death like the one-time presumptive Republican nominee, Biden’s campaign appears to have been run off the rails by his own party. Specifically House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s flawed impeachment process.

It looked grim for Biden as far back as November, when a Harvard-Harris poll found 57 percent of people believed that “Hunter Biden receiving money from business interests in Ukraine is evidence of corruption”.

The same number in the same poll said they believed Hunter Biden’s behavior in Ukraine and China should be investigated: precisely what President Trump publicly called for.

This wasn’t the only chink in the would-be President’s armor, but it will be considered the most heinous as far as Biden stalwarts are concerned.

Caught between Ukraine and a hard place, Biden’s campaign has also been marred by creepy moments.

He’s a creepy guy.
