GLEICHSCHALTUNG: WSJ Reporters Follow NYT, Tell Publisher To Crack Down On ‘Misinformation’ In Opinion Section. “A group of more than 280 WSJ reporters, editors, and other staff sent a letter to Latour on Tuesday calling for more separation between the paper’s news and opinion sections online. The letter also asked for more freedom for reporters to critique opinion articles online and said the opinion staff should be more restrictive in what it chooses to publish, according to WSJ which reported on the letter.”

In other words, the mostly under-40 reporting staff wants veto power over the opinion page.

GLEICHSCHALTUNG: Hulu Working On Hillary Clinton Alt-History Series. “Based on Curtis Sittenfeld’s 2020 fiction novel ‘Rodham,’ the drama series would imagine a world where Hillary Rodham decides against marrying Bill Clinton and instead chooses to forge her own unique path to higher office.”

The first rule of good alt-history is that it has to exist within the realm of plausibility, and Hillary having a political career minus Bill fails that test.

KRUISER’S MORNING BRIEF: Which American Pro Sports League Will Suffer Most From Being Woke? “Just as with movies or television shows, once one political side is endorsed at least half of the audience is offended. In entertainment, the split is probably around 50/50. In sports, however, that may be even more weighted to one side, and its not the side that’s getting all of the political love from the leagues. The politics that the pro sports leagues are cheering on right now may be alienating more than half of their audiences, especially in the NFL.”

SO THEY ARE CAPABLE OF EMBARRASSMENT AFTER ALL: NBA Will Shutter Chinese Training Center. “League operated center in same city as Muslim concentration camps.”

JOHN KASS: Something Grows in the Big Cities Run by Democrats: An Overwhelming Sense of Lawlessness.

Democratic mayors, backing Joe Biden, are on the defensive, upset that the president might win political advantage, even as the mayors feud with their own police departments, as the violence rises in their towns, as children are gunned down.

But these Democratic cities are also where left-wing billionaire George Soros has spent millions of dollars to help elect liberal social justice warriors as prosecutors. He remakes the justice system in urban America, flying under the radar.

The Soros-funded prosecutors, not the mayors, are the ones who help release the violent on little or no bond.

In Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco, St. Louis and elsewhere, it is the mayors who are the faces of their cities, not the prosecutors.

And the mayors properly take the heat as the violence spikes.

Why not take a chance and vote Republican this fall? It did wonders for New York City when voters did just that in 1994.

Blue City voters could do worse — and already have.

BRYAN PRESTON: Blood and Metal: Why 1641 Matters So Much to Understanding America’s Founding (Not 1619). “1492 and 1630 are more significant years for the founding of America than 1619. But neither is as significant in the stream of ideas and human rights as 1641. It was in that year that King Charles I went head to head with John Pym, leader of the Puritan faction in the House of Commons. For a stretch a couple of months in late 1641 and early 1642, Pym and Charles went eyeball to eyeball and took England up to and over the brink of civil war. But we have to go back a few years to understand why they clashed.”

This is quite good.

YOU’RE GONNA NEED A BIGGER BLOG: China Perfidy Roundup for July 22, 2020. “Time for another roundup of China’s various crimes.”

To be clear, this is the Communist People’s Republic of China on the mainland, and not the well-run Republic of China on Taiwan.
