GALLUP SAYS 60 PERCENT APPROVE OF TRUMP CORONAVIRUS ACTIONS: Surely, there is no connection between that and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi’s waving the white flag on her alternative coronavirus relief package.

ON NANCY PELOSI’S JOURNEY TO AND BEYOND SURREALVILLE ON CORONAVIRUS: Lots of folks on the Right are weighing in on the House Speaker’s Christmas Tree for the Left rewrite of the Senate’s bipartisan coronavirus relief package. Monica Showalter at American Thinker captures it perfectly and in great detail. Here’s a sample:

“Moscow Mitch’s slush fund?  There’s no slush fund; everything here is pinned to specific items, such as checks for workers, and masks and gowns for hospitals.  Slush funds were what were used to reward Democrat groups such as ACORN during the 2009 stimulus package.  We have quite a bit of projecting going on here, for starters.

“More important, take a look at that Moscow Mitch designator — something McConnell reportedly does not like, so she uses it.  There’s no bipartisan spirit there to start, not even any hope of it with this kind of talk, just a desire for political slug-festing.

“More important, the Moscow Mitch thing is a reference to the Democrats’ continuous hobbyhorse: finding some way to overturn the results of the 2016 election.  This is pure partisanship at its most disgusting, business as usual for the rabid and embittered Democrats.”

And you know what Glenn says about scrolling.

CORONAVIRUS MIGHT NOT HAVE JUMPED FROM BATS TO HUMANS IF CHINA WEREN’T PERSECUTING CHRISTIANS: That may sound far-fetched, but it’s anything but because the Old Testament warned more than three millennia ago that bats are “unclean.” More people in China would know that if the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) regime in China would stop jailing Christians, tearing down churches and suppressing Christianity.

UPDATE: Geez, folks, did nobody see the “might not have” in the title? Man, this is a tough room!

WHEN WILL THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA REPORT GOOD NEWS ON CORONAVIRUS? There are significant signs of hope amid the endless gloomery.

STONEHENGE HAS NOTHING ON SCOTLAND’S CRANNOGS: Since we’ve all got more reading time during the coronavirus crisis, now is perhaps a good time to expand our range a bit and maybe even discover new interests.  Here’s a start, courtesy of National Geographic:

You’ve heard of the mystery of Stonehenge in England. But archeologists recently discovered that Scotland’s crannogs are even older and more mysterious. I mean, why did those who lived there more than 3,000 years ago build islands of no obvious purpose in the middle of a Loch? Careful what you say by way of answering that question. I’m a McFarland on my mother’s side of the family.

FROM THE SAME INTEL CLOWNS WHO CLAIMED RUSSIA STOLE THE 2016 ELECTION: Today’s Washington Post front page features a sensational story claiming the intelligence community was warning President Trump and Congress way back in January that coronavirus was going to be a worldwide pandemic.

But closely reading the key graph shows it to be based on one anonymous source, plus the opinions of anonymous “others:”

“Intelligence agencies ‘have been warning on this since January,’ said a U.S. official who had access to intelligence reporting that was disseminated to members of Congress and their staffs as well as to officials in the Trump administration, and who, along with others, spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe sensitive information.”

And. on the opinion page (or do I repeat myself?), what is this but “nine former intelligence chiefs” warning that:

“We cannot let the covid-19 pandemic be a cover for the deeply destructive path being pursued by the Trump administration. The most recent illustration of this unprecedented attack is the continuing dismissal of career intelligence professionals — officers who have ably served both Republican and Democratic administrations regardless of their personal political stripe.”

Translation: Trump is remaking the leadership of the intelligence community, displacing the entrenched bureaucrats – careerists and career political operators – who tried to sell us the Russia hoax, the Mueller probe and the quid pro quo. So in response, they are weaponizing the coronavirus.

MY ILL-FATED FORAY INTO HOME-SCHOOLING: Not mine, actually, but that of Bill McMorris, one of my favorite writers. The sub-head is a foretaste – “Those who cannot teach, reach (for a pistol).”

MY SWEET GRANDDAUGHTER NEEDS BLOOD: Beckett Tapscott was born in China with Thalassemia, a genetic condition that requires her to have regular blood transfusions. Without those transfusions, she will die. She was adopted nearly three years ago.

ABC-8 in Richmond has a great segment on Beckett (yes, says the proud father, that’s my son, Marcus, daughter-in-law Morgan, first grandson Tyler, second grandson Brooks, and Chocolate Lab granddog Gundy in supporting roles).

But six-year-old Beckett is just one of millions of Americans who will need blood in coming days. And the American Red Cross currently faces a disastrous nationwide shortage, thanks in great part because of the coronavirus quarantining. But you can still give blood without fear of exposure, no matter where you live. If you aren’t sure where to go to donate, you can find it here on the Red Cross web site. This literally is a life-and-death cause for all of us.

SINCE WE’RE DISPUTING WHAT TO CALL IT: The Epoch Times editors explain why they are calling it the “CCP virus.” And they are challenging the mainstream media to follow suit, as a matter of accuracy and clarity for readers. Probably don’t want to hold your breath too long waiting for that to happen.

UH, CHECK YOUR ARCHIVE, DAVID FRUM: John Cardillo did.

SHOULD WE BE PRAYING THROUGH THE CORONAVIRUS CRISIS? Well, there is good evidence of the efficacy of prayer regardless of one’s view on the ultimate question, which ought to be a good thing for everybody concerned. Also, looks like Capitol Hill aides want to do their praying from home. Or at least their working.

SHOULD CONGRESS VOTE REMOTELY INSTEAD OF IN FORMAL SESSIONS TOGETHER? There’s been talk throughout the digital age of allowing senators and representatives to vote remotely, but the coronavirus crisis is prompting renewed interest in the idea.

“Not so fast,” warns Government Affairs Institute Senior Fellow Joshua Huder, who then lays out what I find to be a convincing case for not going in that direction. For one thing, he writes, “If we want more individual member influence, putting distance between members and the process does the opposite. It gives leaders even more opportunity to legislate in secret, manipulate the process, and otherwise keep rank and file in the dark.”

My concern would be the likelihood any digital remote voting would risk hacking by China, which has already hacked the Office of Personnel Management, much of the Department of Defense, and perhaps just Sunday the Department of Health and Human Services.

CULTURE SHOCK DESPITE NATIONAL QUARANTINING: Faith-based movie ‘I Still Believe’ topped the charts Friday on its opening day and ended the weekend second. Also debuting over the weekend was “Onward” from Disney. Country music’s Shania Twain and Gary “Lt. Dan” Sinise star in supporting roles for “I Still Believe.”

GUESS WHICH GOP SENATOR KILLED A FISA EXTENSION, THEN SAID … Read this first and note who said: “I will let us go dark.” Then read this.

TRUMP TO DECLARE NATIONAL EMERGENCY. HOW ABOUT FOCUSING ON SAVING LIVES? The President makes his announcement in 90 minutes, but Issues & Insights says it’s time to end the hysteria and focus on saving lives.

RARE DISPLAY OF INTELLECTUAL HONESTY FROM A STAR: You may know actor John Rhys-Davies from his roles in the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy or his appearances in the “Indiana Jones” adventures. My favorite is his portrayal of Rodriguez, a Portuguese navigator trapped in Japan in the TV miniseries “Shogun.” What he is not is a Christian, but he gives credit where its historically due regarding the roots of Western civil liberties. So refreshing to hear this from a guy who has made it big in Hollywood.

CDC UNABLE TO DO MOST EFFECTIVE LOCATION CONTACT TRACING: Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) has the unhappy news that the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) is unable to do the most effective form of contact tracing regarding coronavirus or any other disease for that matter.

SUNSHINE WEEK STARTS SUNDAY AND JONI ERNST HAS A SUGGESTION: How about disclosing to taxpayers the actual costs of “studies” like the one that found live turtles are hardly faster on a treadmill than dead ones!

THERE MAY BE A HOUSE VOTE ON THIS TODAY: Rep. Rodney Davis (R-IL) describes the modernization measures to be considered.

CHINA’S FORCED ORGAN DONATIONS WORSE THAN THOUGHT: A new data-driven study for the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation finds strong evidence that Beijing continues to make Falun Gong followers and Muslim Uyghurs the main victims of this barbaric practice:

“In examining the extraordinary growth of organ transplantation and rapid availability of organs in China, the report asks one overarching question: What is the most plausible explanation for the source of the organs? The report examines the evidence of blood-testing and medical examinations of Falun Gong practitioners and Uyghurs in custody, and finds that extrajudicial organ sourcing from these populations is the most plausible and parsimonious explanation.”

‘ENVELOPE EXPANDED!’: Say what you will about Elon Musk and Tesla, his SpaceX endeavor just achieved its 50th successful launch rocket retrieval landing. The Epoch Times quotes Musk as saying this one took place despite strong cross winds in the retrieval landing area.

TOM FITTON ON WHY FISA REFORM WITHOUT PROSECUTIONS WON’T WORK: Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton lays it out in stark terms – “reforming” the FISA Court without putting people from government in jail who violated the Constitution while deceiving the court between 2012 and 2017 will fail.
