REPORT FROM THE BLUE ZONES: Legendary Lower Broadway honky tonk owner says property taxes could ruin Nashville. “There seems to be no bottom to the despair caused by Nashville’s historic property tax increase. The one-two punch of soaring property values and a 26% tax hike is putting businesses — and some homeowners — on the ropes. Now, the Tennessee General Assembly is considering whether to step in.”

Nashville needs adult supervision.

ICE POLLING WELL . . . IN MINNESOTA:

President Trump is carrying out the immigration policies on which he ran successfully for the presidency, but Democrats assure us that Americans oppose his efforts to roll back the outrageous illegal immigration of the Biden years. In particular, Democrats tell us that Americans hate ICE.

Is that true? If there is any state where ICE is unpopular, it should be Minnesota. Minnesota was home to a massive resistance to federal authority that was stoked by pretty much all leading elected officials, including Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey. As home not just to daily demonstrations, but to constant attempts to interfere with the execution of federal law, Minnesota should be ground zero for opposition to Trump’s immigration policies and hatred of ICE.

So we decided to poll it. Our Thinking Minnesota Poll, conducted by Meeting Street Insights, was in the field just when ICE was winding down its operations and beginning to depart from Minnesota. So we should have caught anti-ICE fervor at its height. And yet, what we found was a silent majority of Minnesotans who are broadly supportive of the administration’s immigration policies.

These are the key findings:

* 81% of respondents support deporting all illegal aliens who have a criminal record in the U.S. or abroad. This includes 71% of Democrats.

* 72% want Minnesota state and local officials to cooperate with ICE (most did not).

* 75% say it is important to prevent illegal aliens from voting in Minnesota elections.

* 50% say that the actions of Minnesota leaders like Tim Walz and Jacob Frey made the ICE situation more heated with their comments, while only 25% said that local officials helped to reduce tensions.

* 48% support deporting as many illegal aliens as possible, while 49% oppose deporting all illegal aliens.

* 45% support the presence of ICE in Minnesota, while 53% oppose ICE’s presence.

I suspect the latter numbers reflect, not opposition to the administration’s immigration policies, which enjoy broad support, but rather dismay at the constant news of protests, arrests, etc. that accompanied ICE’s presence here. Even I would say that I was glad to see ICE go, given the hysteria and criminality that Minnesota’s liberals stirred up.

In short, the idea that there is broad opposition to the administration’s immigration policies, and a general hostility toward ICE, is false. If we don’t see those attitudes in Minnesota, I don’t think we will see them anywhere.

The purpose of the media is to convince 90% of the public that the attitudes of 10% of the public are held by 80% of the public.

POISONING THE MINDS OF BOTH OF THEIR VIEWERS:

OPEN THREAD: You know what to do.

IT WAS OBVIOUS EARLY ON THAT SURGICAL MASKS, CLOTH MASKS, AND OTHER “FACE COVERINGS” WERE JUST FOR SHOW, AND THAT ONLY N95 MASKS DID ANYTHING SIGNIFICANT: Pro-Maskers Accidentally Admit Masks Don’t Work, Debunking Anthony Fauci And Years Of Mandates.

In a new letter to the WHO head, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, several mask fanatics, in an effort to promote the use of N95 respirators, claim that surgical masks do not “provide adequate protection against flu-like illnesses including COVID,” according to The Guardian. The letter says that there is “no rational justification remaining for prioritizing or using” surgical masks, because they provide “inadequate protection against airborne pathogens.”

Hilariously, one of the organizers of the letter, Professor Adam Finkel of the University of Michigan School of Public Health, also debunked one of the most popular pro-masking arguments. Anyone who argues against masking on social media has come across someone responding, “Well, if masks don’t work, why do doctors wear them?” Ignoring, of course, that not all doctors wear masks, only surgeons do.

But Finkel specifically highlights that those masks were never supposed to stop viruses or respiratory infections, but were “invented to stop doctors and nurses from sneezing into the guts and the hearts of patients.”

Finkel went further, saying that surgical masks are to respirators as typewriters were to computers. Those masks, he continued, are “obsolete.”

So the forever maskers now admit that cloth or surgical masks do not stop airborne viruses. They admit that surgeons do not wear masks to stop respiratory viruses, and that wearing lower-grade masks, the exact type worn by the vast majority of the world for years on end to stop COVID, could not have possibly stopped COVID.

N95 masks only work if they’re fresh, clean, and discarded after a few hours of use. One that you pull out of a pocket or purse is little better than a surgical mask. Masking was about compliance, not health.

LAW AND ORDER: Another Anti-Gun Police Chief Busted, This One in Connecticut. “For years, this guy was a face of “gun violence” prevention, cozying up to anti-gun groups like Connecticut Against Gun Violence. He preached about treating gun ownership like a public health crisis, all while pushing programs to disarm the little people under the guise of safety. Because guns are icky and he has his. But lo and behold, safety crusader Karl has been slapped with first-degree larceny charges for (allegedly) swiping almost a hundred grand in police department funds. Some of the money was for earmarked for…wait for it . . . youth programs for ‘at risk’ kids. Thanks, Karl.”

MOST PEOPLE DON’T KNOW ENOUGH ABOUT THIS DANGER: What to know about the risks of carbon monoxide poisoning after college student’s death. “First responders found 21-year-old Salve Regina University student Joseph Boutros unresponsive in his car on Monday in Newport, Rhode Island, where he was parked outside of a university building. Police said the vehicle’s exhaust pipe was obstructed by snow and that his death from carbon monoxide poisoning was accidental. The area didn’t have power at the time and Boutros told a fellow student that he was using his car to charge his phone, Newport Police Captain Joseph Carroll said.”

A common risk. Also people running gas generators in carports or garages with an open door, thinking that they’re well enough ventilated. They are not.
