AMERICA AT AN “END STAGE METASTASIS”?:  So says David Stockman, former budget director under Reagan, in this provocative NY Times op-ed.  Stockman asserts:

Instead of moderation, what’s at hand is a Great Deformation, arising from a rogue central bank that has abetted the Wall Street casino, crucified savers on a cross of zero interest rates and fueled a global commodity bubble that erodes Main Street living standards through rising food and energy prices — a form of inflation that the Fed fecklessly disregards in calculating inflation.

These policies have brought America to an end-stage metastasis. The way out would be so radical it can’t happen. It would necessitate a sweeping divorce of the state and the market economy. It would require a renunciation of crony capitalism and its first cousin: Keynesian economics in all its forms. The state would need to get out of the business of imperial hubris, economic uplift and social insurance and shift its focus to managing and financing an effective, affordable, means-tested safety net.

Anyone wanna chip in and split the cost of buying an island somewhere and starting our own country?

THE EVIL POTENTIAL OF GOOGLE:   The behemoth Google’s motto is “Don’t be evil.”  But what would happen if such a powerful search engine subtly and imperceptibly manipulated the results of searches for information about political candidates, in an attempt to influence public perception?  Psychologist Robert Epstein’s research on this possibility isn’t making Google happy.  And given that Google was the 3d largest donor to the 2012 Obama campaign, I think we’d be well advised to take seriously the temptation to mix internet search engines with politics

SHROUD OF TURIN DATES TO JESUS’ LIFETIME:  Appropos of the upcoming Christian holiday of Easter, recent tests conducted by researchers at the University of Padua, Italy, have concluded that the famous linen sheet known as the Shroud of Turin– believed by some  to contain an image of the crucified body of Jesus– dates back to between 280 B.C. and A.D. 220, within the range of Jesus’ lifetime.

DEFENSE DEPARTMENT COWARDS:  The Defense Department is actively opposing legislation pending in Congress that would award the Purple Heart to the survivors of the Ft. Hood terrorism attack by Major Nidal Hasan.  Why?  Because DOD doesn’t want to call Hasan a “terrorist,” according to a document obtained by Fox News.

“The Army objects to (the proposal) because it would undermine the prosecution of Major Nidal Hasan by materially and directly compromising Major Hasan’s ability to receive a fair trial. This provision will be viewed as setting the stage for a formal declaration that Major Hasan is a terrorist, on what is now the eve of trial. Such a situation, prior to trial, would fundamentally compromise the fairness and due process of the pending trial,” the document said.

5 GROUPS THAT ARE BEING CRUSHED BY OBAMA’S POLICIES:  John Hawkins over at TownHall outlines why blacks, single women, Hispanics, unions and young people are suffering under the Obama Administration’s policies.  Share this with your friends, particularly those who fall within these groups.

MONEY FOR NOTHING:  American taxpayers are spending hundreds of millions of dollars each year for federal government workers who are AWOL, standby, doing union work, and other non-work.  And yet the Obama Administration insists that TSA, Customs and other critical workers need to be laid off because of sequestration.  Watch this report from Greta Van Susteren, and be prepared to be angry:

SEQUESTRATION MANIPULATION:  According to a new study released by the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), excessive government waste amounts to $42 billion each year– enough to fund 45,000 years of White House tours. 

MORE LIB/PROGRESSIVE HYPOCRISY:  As John Nolte at Breitbart points out, The lamestream media was quick to condemn Dr. Ben Carson and other conservatives for pondering whether recognizing same-sex marriage as a constitutional right would open the door to other non-traditional unions, including polygamy, polyandry, or incest.  Yet they didn’t blink an eye when Supreme Court Justice Sotomayor– an Obama appointee– engaged in the same line of inquiry during oral arguments.  According to Nolte:

But no one on the left or in the media cared that Sotomayor used the horror of incest to make a point about same-sex marriage — because Sotomayor is a leftist and they know which way she is going to rule. Moreover, the point she was making was obvious.

The point Carson was making was just as obvious. But because the right-leaning Carson is both black and conservative, which makes him a threat to the left-leaning mainstream media’s  attempted stranglehold on the Narrative, doesn’t “know his place,” Wolf Blitzer and Andrea Mitchell and NBC News and CNN played “gotcha” with him to “put him back in his place.”

This sort of behavior by the MSM is so ubiquitous that I almost don’t notice it anymore.

WAS FLIPPER A SWINGER?:   The famous TV dolphin apparently had a secret life.  This Vanity Fair story reveals the secrets of dolphin “superpods”– namely, that they are non-stop orgies:

As for the fabled orgy, it turns out that dolphins are one of the most promiscuous animals on the planet. They don’t mate just for reproduction. They enjoy sex. It’s a social binder for them, like a handshake. On a good day a dolphin can have sex 50 times. Dolphins do it with everyone . . . old, young, big, small, even family members. Now we know why dolphins always look like they’re smiling.

KNOWLEDGE IS POWER:  Literally.  A non-profit men’s health group in London is offering a 6-week course on S&M and bondage.  Classes will cover such important topics as gags, rope, mummification, pain, wax, humiliation, and watersports.   I guess that last one means kayaking while handcuffed or something?  :)

POST-BIRTH “ABORTIONS”– AKA INFANTICIDE:   No matter what you think of abortion, you need to be disturbed by this video.  At a recent committee hearing in the Florida legislature to consider a bill that would require health care providers to provide care to an infant that survives an abortion procedure, the spokesperson for Florida Planned Parenthood, Alisa LaPolt Snow, asserted that the decision about such lifesaving care should be left to the decision of the mother.  Watch it yourself:

DEAR KIDS:

HERE WE GO AGAIN:   President Obama today stood at the port of Miami and called for $21 billion in new stimulus spending on infrastructure improvements.  But magically, the President claims it won’t increase the deficit one dime!  Yay–more free stuff!

As Ed Driscoll reported here earlier, the President stood in front of a Chinese crane when making this announcement– a fact that was revealed only after the American flag that had been strategically placed over the manufacturer’s nameplate blew away in a gust of wind.

WHERE IN THE WORLD ARE MALIA AND SASHA?:   The Bahamas?  Skiing in Sun Valley, Idaho?  All of the above?  Breitbart is reporting that an earlier report of the girls’ visit to Sun Valley by an Idaho TV station has been taken down at the request of the White House:

The White House has confirmed the report was removed on their request. From Kristina Schake, Communications Director to the First Lady:

From the beginning of the administration, the White House has asked news outlets not to report on or photograph the Obama children when they are not with their parents and there is no vital news interest. We have reminded outlets of this request in order to protect the privacy and security of these girls.

While I certainly understand the concerns about security, presumably the Secret Service is accompanying these girls wherever they go.  If these media reports are true and the girls have been to both luxurious and expensive locations during their spring break, this would be legitimately newsworthy at a time when the President has halted White House tours and other basic government functions, supposedly due to sequestration-based budget cuts.  The public deserves to know whether the Obamas are being hypocritical and/or squandering tax dollars during a time of economic austerity.

A “LESBIAN CABAL” AT HOMELAND SECURITY?:   According to Geraldo Rivera, maybe.  NBC Latino reports:

During a segment of “Fox and Friends,” Rivera waded into the issue of a top aide to Secretary Janet Napolitano taking leave amid charges of sexual harassment and anti-male discrimination.

“I have a question, is this subtext of the Department of Homeland Security scandal — that there is some kind of lesbian cabal, that it’s a same-sex takeover of the big agencies?” Geraldo offered, as the hosts looked at each other and laughed nervously.

“What do you think?” the hosts asked him.

“I don’t know, it seems like everyone is talking around it,” Geraldo said, as he picked up steam. “Is that really what people are saying? That men are disadvantaged because women and specifically lesbians are ruling the roost there?”

LOL.

WILL POLICE DRONES REQUIRE WARRANTS?:  It’s an interesting, unresolved question.  Some of them that use eavesdropping technology undoubtedly will.  Others, that merely “see” people while they’re in public spaces, won’t.  Many states are considering legislation to prohibit their use to limited situations— a very good thing for privacy, methinks.

MORE FREE STUFF– FOR DEADBEATS!:   I read this story in the WaPo and I thought, “This can’t be right.”  But then I remember I was living in the era of free stuff.  Who benefits this time?  Anyone who falls 90 days past due on their mortgage payments.  Under a regulation proposed by the Federal Housing Finance Agency, any homeowner–regardless of income– who falls 90 days behind on their mortgage will automatically become eligible for reduced interest rates, extended time for payment, or other relief.   The Post reports:

Some analysts worried that the new program could encourage borrowers to deliberately miss payments in order to become eligible for the program.

“The primary issue is whether this will encourage borrowers to strategically default on their mortgage in order to get the modification. This risk exists because the new program does not require the borrower to demonstrate financial hardship,” Jaret Seiberg, an analyst with Gugenheim Partners, wrote Wednesday. “

FHFA said Fannie and Freddie would use existing “screening measures to prevent strategic defaulters.”

Yeah, I’m sure that will work.  Does doing the “right thing” even matter anymore, or does it just make you a doofus?

SHOCKER:  POLITICALLY CORRECT CURRICULUM IS BAD FOR STUDENTS:  Just ask Texas, most of which has been using the PC curriculum called CSCOPE for about 8 years:

The percentages of students scoring “unsatisfactory” on the new State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness/End-Of-Course tests illustrate the problem.

For Algebra 1 students, 13.74 percent in non-CSCOPE schools scored unsatisfactorily; for students in CSCOPE schools, it was 20.35 percent. For Biology 1, those who ranked unsatisfactory in non-CSCOPE schools totaled 10.5 percent; for CSCOPE schools it was 14.86 percent.

For English Writing 1, the figures were 39. 48 percent for non-CSCOPE schools, and 46.3 percent for CSCOPE schools. For geography, 17.78 percent of students in non-CSCOPE schools were unsatisfactory and 23.30 percent of those in CSCOPE schools.
