Memphis Police told reporters that school officials provided them with a picture of the suspect and a description of his vehicle. Officers located him and pulled him over. “MPD said the gunman jumped out of his red pick-up with a gun and was shot by an officer,” according to the report. “That man was then rushed to Regional One Hospital in critical condition, according to police.”

This situation could have been far worse. Fortunately, the school’s foresight led them to put robust security measures in place to prevent a possible mass shooting. The swift response of law enforcement ensured that the suspect was apprehended before he could find another school or public area to target.

What the anti-gunner crowd doesn’t want you to focus on is the reality that their cherished gun control laws did not stop this individual from trying to murder children. In fact, the would-be assailant was carrying a handgun, not one of the “assault rifles” that the elite media uses to terrify Americans into supporting restrictions on responsible gun owners.

This is just one story showing how security measures are far more effective at decreasing lives lost to school shootings than passing gun control legislation. As more states focus resources on implementing these measures, it will not be surprising to see more of these stories crop up. Stronger security not only prevents shooters from gaining access to school campuses, but it can also discourage them from trying in the first place.

Naturally, the media will ignore the lessons of this story:

Anti-Trump New York Times columnist David Brooks shocked political commentators on Twitter when he admitted he and the so-called “elite” have used self-serving tactics to maintain power and a sense of moral superiority over the Trump supporters they detest.

“I ask you to try on a vantage point in which we anti-Trumpers are not the eternal good guys. In fact, we’re the bad guys,” Brooks wrote in a column Wednesday.

“Over the last decades we’ve taken over whole professions and locked everybody else out,” Brooks wrote of the liberal elite in America. The column detailed how the “educated class” imagine themselves as the “forces of progress and enlightenment” to appease their own egos, as part of a broader tale that paints them as enlightened and Trump supporters as bigots and fools.

Brooks pointed out that in the media world that was once a working-class profession, Ivy League and other elite-level college graduates have come to dominate major newsrooms.

“When I began my journalism career in Chicago in the 1980s, there were still some old crusty working-class guys around the newsroom. Now we’re not only a college-dominated profession, we’re an elite-college-dominated profession,” he wrote.

Brooks wrote that members of the liberal elite “also segregate ourselves into a few booming metro areas: San Francisco, D.C., Austin and so on.”

Thanks to a half century of leftism run amok, San Francisco isn’t exactly booming these days David — who just accidentally stumbled into Mitchell & Webb’s “are we the baddies?” meme.

Al Sharpton wants you to imagine if Thomas Jefferson or James Madison, two of the founding fathers, had overthrown a government.

Reacting to former President Donald Trump’s third criminal indictment on MSNBC, Sharpton on Wednesday tried to provide meta-perspective about the significance of what is happening.

“This is just as low as it gets. I’ve never heard of three cases on one individual in three jurisdictions, so this is serious,” he said

“But on the other side of it: One day, our children’s children will read American history, and can you imagine our reading that James Madison or Thomas Jefferson tried to overthrow the government so they could stay in power?” he continued. “This is narcissism with steroids, and to think that he could get this whole country divided and split, and commit these crimes and have others commit crimes off his own self-aggrandizement, is as sick as it gets.”

Sharpton’s comments invited a wave of mockery because, after all, literally every American can imagine Jefferson and Madison overthrowing a government because that’s exactly what they did.

YOU’RE GONNA NEED A BIGGER BLOG: The problem with hotels for migrants.

For British taxpayers perturbed by their £6 million ($7.7 million) daily bill for housing asylum seekers in hotels, New York City mayor Eric Adams has the solution: handbills. Exasperated by a sudden influx he characterizes as a “disaster,” Adams plans to dispense police-tape yellow flyers both at the city’s 188 sites for housing migrants and at America’s overrun, purely notional southern border. The leaflets warn in English and Spanish: “Since April 2022, over 90,000 migrants have come to New York City. There is no guarantee we will be able to provide shelter and services to new arrivals. Housing in NYC is very expensive. The cost of food, transportation, and other necessities is the highest in the United States. Please consider another city as you make your decision about where to settle in the US.” Well, that’s one colossal headache sorted, then. Why didn’t anyone think of flyers before?

I’m reminded of being paid a pittance to distribute leaflets for a Little Richard concert in Atlanta in 1973 — a thankless task. Most pedestrians wouldn’t accept one. A few politely did, then immediately threw it away unread, often on the sidewalk; this was largely an exercise in secondary littering.

I had no idea that such modest slips of paper would prove the ingenious answer to a municipal crisis fifty years later. Why, now that the Big Apple is falling back on retro advertising tactics, let’s skywrite above the Rio Grande, “Don’t ♥ New York!” Or maybe Adams should try his hand at radio jingles: “Other cities hit the spot. Ninety thousand, that’s a lot. Twice as much for a burger, too. Other cities are the place for you!”

Yet aside from exhibiting a certain, well, ineffectual quality, these leaflets are brandishing the high cost of necessities at a population that doesn’t plan on paying for them.

This isn’t who we are. Adams clearly needs to reread the words on the Statue of Liberty — and his own promise that New York is a sanctuary city.

ANDY MCCARTHY: Trump Can’t Win.

To have a chance in the general election, Trump has to make up that support. But from where? Polls consistently show that Democratic opposition to Trump is nearly universal. They also consistently show that his unfavorability with the general public hovers around 60 percent. There is no reason to believe this will change. To the contrary, about 54 percent of voters cast their ballots for someone other than Trump in 2016 and 2020, when he was more popular nationwide than he is now. He couldn’t win in 2020 with 46 (he won by a miracle in 2016 with 46). He is not going to win with less than 46, but there’s no reason to think he would ever sniff 46 again.

As unpopular as Biden is, recent Monmouth University polling had him beating Trump soundly even if there were a third-party “unity” ticket (the one hypothesized was Joe Manchin (D., W.V.) and Jon Huntsman (R., Utah). Maybe this is an outlier (910 registered voters), and maybe the Quinnipiac University poll discussed by CNN, showing Trump currently one point ahead of Biden in the battleground state of Pennsylvania (47–46) is more noteworthy. But I doubt it. Trump has done material damage to Republicans in the Keystone State — in 2022, he did more to get Democrats John Fetterman and Josh Shapiro elected, as senator and governor respectively, than any single political actor, and the GOP lost control of the state house for the first time in a dozen years.

Hence this headline at America’s Newspaper of Record:
