A MIXTEC CODEX REVEALED? Has hi-tech imaging discovered a pre-Spanish codex? The Mixtec lived in what is now the Oaxaca region of contemporary Mexico.

WHILE HILLARY WAS SECRETARY OF STATE HER OFFICE DISCUSSED STATE DEPT BUSINESS WITH CLINTON FOUNDATION EXECS:

Call logs from the office of Cheryl Mills, Hillary Clinton’s chief of staff at the State Department, show Mills had frequent contact with top executives at the Clinton Foundation. The logs, which were obtained by Citizens United through the Freedom of Information Act, indicate the foundation’s chief operating officer, Laura Graham, called Mills often to discuss State Department business.

Call it what it is. Crooked.

THE ISLAMIC STATE’S LIBYAN STRONGHOLD FALLS: Libya’s Government of National Accord (GNA) forces now control most of the city of Sirte. The StrategyPage update provides lots of details. The US has backed the GNA Sirte offensive with airstrikes. It appears Islamic State fighters outside Sirte say they’ll counter-attack– so it’s wait and see. (No, there isn’t much accord in Libya’s Government of National Accord. The update discusses that, too.)

THE WAR ON HONESTY: So many lies, so little time to combat them.

The last four in the series.

War On Honesty 8: Treason, sir? Given her emails?
War On Honesty 9: Introducing Media Privilege to the lexicon.
War On Honesty 10: Mouth versus Crimes.
War On Honesty 11. The strategic weakness exposed, with footnotes.

DID THE BREXIT ARMAGEDDON OCCUR?: Why, no it didn’t. A lot of dire predictions made by academic, political and media elites don’t happen, do they?

DRUDGE LINKS TO AN LA TIMES TRACKING POLL THAT HAS TRUMP LEADING: By six-tenths of a percent. 44.2 to 43.6. Tracking polls are lousy snapshots. But the Dems have a lot of worries. The worries include Clinton Foundation donors that are, well, so shady The New York Times frets. Ah yes, foreign donors criticized for their “records on sex discrimination and other human-rights issues.” How soft the NY Times doth peddle. Trump’s rally and the Clinton Donor Fret are most ironic. Just about a month ago the Clinton campaign accused Trump — by innuendo– of treason.

GORBACHEV’S AMBIGUOUS LEGACY: The article is five years old but it’s still a timely reminder of the Soviet Union’s evils, the dismal existence of its people and Gorbachev’s attempts to maintain the totalitarian state. As for the August 1991 coup:

Was he (Gorbachev) simply a victim or also a perpetrator of the coup attempt? “I can’t believe that Gorbachev didn’t know anything,” claimed former Soviet Foreign Minister Eduard Shevardnadze. There is a rumor that persists to this day that the Communist Party leader collaborated with the putsch to give him an excuse to purge the party of its right wing after its expected failure. But ultimately Gorbachev was just a pawn in a complicated scenario, one which Yeltsin ended up taking advantage of.

Read the whole thing.

BLAMING CAMELS: One common cold virus was transmitted from camels to humans.

MORE ON IRAN’S $400 MILLION: The State Dept has confirmed that the release of the American prisoners held by Iran was contingent on Iran getting the cash. Read the report. Timing mattered. Iran would release the prisoners, Washington would release the cash. The Obama Administration continues to deny the payment was a ransom. But now we know there was definitely a connection. Drip drip drip.

A BOOKSTORE DIES IN BERKELEY, CALIFORNIA: An independent bookstore. In business 33 years. The city’s minimum wage increase was the last nail in the bookstore’s coffin.

STATE DEPARTMENT EXPLORED A NIGERIAN LAND DEAL CONNECTED TO A CLINTON FOUNDATION DONOR: It’s complicated, so read the whole thing. But once again the smoke of corruption. Will the FBI look for the fire?

UPDATE (FROM GLENN): As somebody said on Twitter, the difference between Hillary and normal people is that when she gets an email from a rich Nigerian proposing a deal, it’s actually from a rich Nigerian, proposing a deal.
