ELECTION SNAPSHOT:
Shot: “Revealing a level of confidence Clinton’s inner circle has been eager to squash for weeks, outside advisers have now identified victories in Pennsylvania and New Hampshire as the path of least resistance, delivering for the Democratic nominee more than the 270 electoral votes needed to take the White House. And they are projecting increased confidence about her chances in Republican-leaning North Carolina, a state that could prove as critical as Ohio or Pennsylvania.”
—“Clinton’s advisers tell her to prep for a landslide,” the Politico, today.
Chaser: “For someone who’s often been reputed to be such a campaign klutz, Donald Trump had a pretty good week. Yes, he wastefully campaigned in Washington and Connecticut, which he has no chance of winning, and in Mississippi, which he has no chance of losing. But when the president of Mexico invited Trump and what’s-her-name down for a visit, the real estate billionaire pounced on the opportunity like it was a prime midtown corner lot. That’s the sort of unpredictability that’s worried the risk-adverse Clinton crowd all along. Trump is like a scrambling quarterback. You set up all the usual defensive schemes to handle the most likely plays. But then your opponent does something totally unexpected, eludes defenders and pulls off a big play.”
—“Clinton’s worst nightmare: The unpredictable Trump emerges,” Andrew Malcolm, Hot Air today.
Hangover: While Hillary Clinton touts 51 Florida field offices, Donald Trump still has just one.
—The Tampa Bay Times, yesterday.
Honest, I want to believe, but even the best scrambling quarterback still needs to surround himself with an excellent team — and back office operation — to win games in the fourth quarter. And that Tampa Bay headline, along with these, sound like very bad news for Trump.
